6. The great escape
Miyo paused for a few seconds, opened her mouth to speak, then closed it. She then started, still a little hesitant, "H-How can I? I don't even have cursed energy that I can use. The one in my heart is dormant and can only be used by someone who knows how." She explained.
"I could teach you how." Gojo Satoru offered. "If Itadori Yuji can learn how to use Sukuna's cursed energy to fight his own battles, then why can't you?" He asked and Miyo had no answer.
"I-I don't know." She said, still unsure.
"You think too little of yourself." He commented. Perhaps, that wasn't her fault. Somewhere along the conversation, he realised, Miyo's distorted perception of herself was a result of poor upbringing. He could help if she'd accept it from him.
Miyo was confused. She had never been told to take charge. She never made the decisions. Power didn't look good in her hands, it was always with someone else. Then how could she suddenly command such power without the fear of making wrong choices.
"I'm going to leave you alone to think about this." Gojo Satoru stood up and headed towards the door. "I know you think all Jujutsu sorcerers are scumbags that shouldn't be trusted, but I'm still going to give you one advice. Don't let anyone else make the decisions for you. Stay in control, always. You'll never regret that." He locked the door from outside before leaving.
Miyo looked at the time. It was a little past 8:00 pm. After Gojo Satoru left, she sat on the floor, thinking about everything for what felt like hours.
She thought about her life and her own weakness. Was she always this passive? Why didn't she ever dream or aim for higher things?
What would happen to her life now? The only two options were death or becoming a Jujutsu sorcerer. Miyo's mother would be so ashamed if she found out.
There was a knock on Miyo's window. She slid the curtains open to reveal Yuji. "Hey, that was very wrong of you earlier." He pointed out.
"Don't start." Miyo didn't have the mental space for this.
"I actually came here to ask you what you wanted for dinner." Yuji looked away. "I feel bad for the pizza since it was kind of my fault. So tell me anything, I'll order in for you." He offered innocently.
Miyo's heart was not made of stone. When she heard that, it made her feel warm. It had been a long time since someone did a kind gesture for her. "Thank you, but I lost my appetite. I'll eat later." She replied.
Yuji thought for a moment, then removed a pen from his pocket. "Give me your hand." He said and Miyo hesitantly extended her hand through the grille on the window. He scribbled a few numbers on her palm and grinned at her. "This is my phone number. If you're hungry, you can give me a call and I'll get you whatever you want to eat. This is a one time only offer."
"I don't have a phone. Your Gojo-sensei took it when you brought me here earlier." Miyo replied. Yuji pointed at a strange wireless phone on her bedside table. "Who even uses them these days?" She said in disbelief. "But okay, this is very kind of you. Thank you." Miyo acknowledged his kindness, but she wasn't going to go as far as calling him a friend or an ally.
To her, he was just that. A Jujutsu sorcerer.
In the end, Miyo agreed with what Gojo Satoru told her. She should decide her own fate and remain in power. So, she was going to do exactly that.
After it was around 11:00 pm, Jujutsu High became eerily quiet. The sound of crickets and insects was louder than what she often heard in her little apartment.
Miyo made her way to the door and jiggled the doorknob. "Ofcourse its locked." She told herself, running her fingers through her hair. There were no hairpins and its not like Miyo even knew how to pick a lock. She checked all the windows and they were open, but had vertical iron bars that were too closely spaced for her to squeeze through.
Miyo sat down on the floor in despair. She brought her knees close to her and covered her face.
"Don't try to do anything on your own. You can't defeat anything above a Grade 3 curse. You can't fight against Jujutsu sorcerers. Stay at home, always."
Her mother's voice echoed in her mind. She was right. Even if Gojo Satoru thought she had cursed energy, its not like she was going to be able to fight overnight. It would take years of practice and determination. It wasn't that easy.
Miyo made her way to the bathroom and didn't bother with the lights. Her eyes landed on the little fan in the corner. Its size was a little smaller than a car window and if Miyo tried a little, she could squeeze through.
It was attached to the window with a slightly loose iron frame. Miyo rushed to the living area and cleared her bedside table. She placed it on the bathroom floor and climbed up to examine the mini fan.
The fan was fixed to the window behind a loosely attached iron frame. She noticed the rusty screws on the corners. Miyo went back and searched the living room for a screwdriver, but there was no trace of one. The thought of asking Yuji popped up in her mind, but she immediately dismissed it.
In the back pocket of her shorts, Miyo fished for a coin and found it. The day was not so bad, after all. She quickly climbed the table and twisted the coin against the screws. After consistently trying for ten minutes, the screws started loosening. Miyo was overjoyed.
Once the iron frame was out, (y/n) prayed nobody was around to hear her use her fist to pound against the mini fan. Rust had caused the fan to develop sharp edges which scraped her knuckles. She had come too far for that to stop her now. She gave it all her force and the mini fan budged a little. After a little more blood from her fingers, the fan fell in the opposite direction.
Miyo crawled through the little space. There were spiderwebs and dead flies in there that made her want to get out immediately. Miyo fell forward and landed on the grass. Mud and dirt covered her knees and elbows, but she was too proud of herself to notice any of that. She dusted her hands and stealthily headed towards the high walls.
"How the hell do I cross this?" Miyo mumbled as she lifted her head to size up the wall. It was too tall to climb over and checking the gates was too risky.
Miyo's stomach contracted and made strange noises. Okay, now she definitely had the appetite for the meal Yuji was offering.
She saw a tree that had grown close to the walls. Miyo had never climbed a tree before, but there is a first for everything. She somehow made her way up and close to the wall's height. However, as her legs dangled from the top of the wall, the ground felt too far away.
"Wh-Why is this wall so tall? This is almost one whole storey." Miyo said as she shivered from the cold midnight breeze. "What if I fall and break my neck?" She asked herself.
Miyo shut her eyes tightly and jumped. The landing wasn't as safe as she had hoped. Her left ankle throbbed in pain and the heel of her right palm was now bleeding. When she tried standing up, a sharp pain shot out through her ankle.
Miyo took a deep breath and then, "Fuck you Gojo Satoru!" She shouted into the empty street. Somehow, that was a cathartic experience.
Then she limped the rest of her way ahead. The pain in her ankle was getting worse with every step she took. After what felt like hours of walking, she gave up and collapsed on the sidewalk.
There was an opening in the drain just a few feet ahead. A dark shadow emerged from it and the pace of Miyo's heartbeat increased tenfold. She placed her bleeding hand on the asphalt and dragged herself backwards.
"Wow," A painfully familiar voice started. "Its like you're a curse magnet."
