3. Entrance exam

Throughout their way home, Yuji felt sorry for Miyo. He saw the dark side of Jujutsu sorcerers when Gojo Satoru didn't even blink before killing off all the curses in that house with a snap of his finger. Miyo screamed for him to stop, but somehow her voice didn't tug at his heart, the way it did for Yuji.

To Gojo, developing an attachment to curses was plain stupidity. How did one even begin to do that? He understood that Miyo really had nobody else she could rely on or even talk to. In the time she spent alone, maybe those lowly curses were the only company she had. However, curses were curses and eliminating them was his responsibility.

Gojo Satoru touched the side of her head with two fingers and she fell unconscious. He lifted her up over his shoulder and asked Yuji to bring the pizza along.

When Miyo opened her eyes, she was in a strange room with golden walls. The smell of warm pizza wafted over to her.

"I didn't mean to interrupt your dinner like that." Gojo Satoru reached to untie her hands and offered her the reheated pizza. Miyo turned her head away.

"The higher ups ordered me to kill you." He said and fear crept up Miyo's stomach. She started feeling nauseous. "Unless you want to die, I can help you, maybe."

Miyo looked up. "You want me to help you locate cursed objects until the day I die?" She said, emotionless.

"That, yeah, but I also want you to help us find Yui-san. She made your curse, so maybe she knows how to destroy it without killing you." Gojo Satoru suggested.

Miyo wanted to hope. For a second, she wanted to believe that there would come a time when she'd no longer see curses. Grotesque figures wouldn't come chasing after her. She wouldn't have to hide herself every time she spotted someone that resembled a Jujutsu sorcerer.

Then, she recalled her mother's words about Jujutsu sorcerers.

"Don't believe anything they tell you. They're deceptive and will use you to their benefit."

Miyo didn't believe one thing Gojo Satoru told her. "You can't even show me your eyes while talking and you want to establish trust?" She narrowed her eyes.

"Have you been curious about my eyes now?" Gojo Satoru asked cheekily.

"No! I couldn't care less." She replied. "I'm not going to be a Jujutsu sorcerer and become your little pawn."

"Oh, then I hope you're ready to die?" He asked and Miyo looked away.

"Give me some time." She bargained. "I need to think."

"Miss, this is not a scholarship offer to Jujutsu High where I'm begging you to join our institute." Gojo Satoru always chose the most sour words to get things across to her. "I had to really reason and negotiate with the higher ups to delay your death sentence. You're a ticking time bomb that will turn into a dangerous curse very soon."

"I didn't ask to be born as a curse!" She yelled.

"That's your problem."

After a lot of contemplation, Miyo decided that her first objective is to stay alive so her mother could come and get her. She could pretend to be a Jujutsu sorcerer and make her escape when it was convenient. The thought of fleeing and hiding for the rest of her life crossed her mind. "I've always been doing that anyway."

When she finally agreed, Gojo Satoru asked her to follow him to the principal's office. She was informed of an entrance exam that made her roll her eyes.

She imagined a grumpy old man or woman, sitting on a swivel chair, asking the same old, "Why do you want to join our institution?"

Instead, Miyo saw a tall man wearing a suit and sunglasses, sitting on the floor and painting dolls. "What kind of an interview is this?" She asked herself.

"What are your goals, Miss?" The principal asked.

"I want to follow in my mother's footsteps. She was a Jujutsu sorcerer." She replied dryly. There was no emotion or passion in her words.

Gojo Satoru giggled.

"Your mother betrayed us and used her cursed energy to burn down one of our Kyoto units." The principal said. Miyo looked at Gojo Satoru who smiled at her. "I won't accept you if I don't see any sincerity. Truthfulness is always respected."

"I don't want to die just yet." Miyo pointed at Gojo Satoru. "He said I'll be executed if I don't become a Jujutsu sorcerer. Are you that short on students here?" She asked, causing him to raise his eyebrows.

"You're gaining courage with every word that escapes your mouth." The principal observed. "Unfortunately, that's not enough reason to become a Jujutsu sorcerer. We can't accept you as our student."

Gojo Satoru leaned towards her and whispered, "Congratulations, you're the first candidate among the first years to fail the entrance exam."

"However, I see the cursed energy you're carrying. If, by any chance, you can learn to control your curse, you'd be a very valuable resource to us." The principal saw the potential in Miyo and just executing her would be such a waste. "I'm giving you two days to think about this. If you don't prove yourself worthy of being a Jujutsu sorcerer, you'll be executed." He said and for the second time that day, fear rose up her stomach. She was getting sick and standing up straight was too tiresome.

As soon she exited the Principal's office with Gojo Satoru, Miyo rushed towards the nearest bush and threw up. Tears involuntarily streamed down the corner of her eyes. Jujutsu sorcerers were really going to kill her. They would get rid of her just like her mother did in the past.

"For the amount of cursed energy your heart is carrying, you really have a weak stomach." Gojo commented.

"Your clothes look nice, I don't want to accidentally throw up on them." She replied and crouched down to the ground.

"It would be interesting to see vomit travel through Infinite void, don't you think?"

"What?" Miyo asked in disbelief. "I don't know if you live in your head, but I just got told I have two days left to live. Take your stupidass jokes and get lost." She told him without looking up.

"You were living? I'm not sure if breathing in an apartment full of low grade curses and eating the bare minimum every day alone with no goal or aim is considered living." Gojo's sharp words really pricked.

Miyo stood up and grabbed his collar. "What did you say? You're going to teach me how to live? You? A Jujutsu sorcerer?" She let out a humourless laugh. "Last time I checked, you're using cursed energy to assert power. Who are you to decide whether I get to live or not? Are you the law? Are you god?" She yelled indignantly.

"It feels like you're trying to start a political debate with me." Gojo Satoru chuckled. "We're executing you because once your curse awakens, you'll be killing people left and right. The law or the god will not be here to save anyone you kill in the future." He reasoned.

"If my curse awakens, you're the first person I'll kill."
