11. Warmth

Miyo covered her head with her arms while her legs had folded up on her seat. She curled up into a ball as the outside of their car went absolutely silent. Just a minute ago, they had heard the headlights and the taillights of the car explode. The surroundings had gone pitch black and the two unregistered curses were nowhere to be seen.

"Gojo, where did they go?" Miyo asked as she reached to tap his shoulder, but there was only air. When she turned to look, the driver's seat was empty. Miyo's blood ran cold. "This is not funny, Gojo Satoru, please don't play such pranks on me." Miyo buried her face into her knees as she hugged them tightly.

"Miyo-chan," A cheerful voice sounded from outside the car, but Miyo didn't have the courage to look. "If you make the pact with me, I'll protect you." Gojo Satoru shouted from a distance.

When Miyo finally mustered up the courage to look up, she couldn't spot him anywhere on the dark street. She opened the glove compartment in front of her, but there was no flashlight. So, with the minimal brightness her phone's flashlight could offer, Miyo illuminated her surroundings. She gathered some courage and opened her window. A sigh of relief left her lips when she couldn't find any curse outside the car. She pointed the flashlight to the driver's seat again, but it was still empty. Miyo felt a presence from the backseat, so she pointed her phone to the back of the car and two grotesque Grade 2 curses sat there staring back. A shrill scream emerged as Miyo dropped her phone into the car and fumbled with the door handle which easily clicked open. She was only a few steps away when the car exploded and she was thrown metres away. If not for Gojo Satoru's cursed technique, Miyo would've hit some vital body part against a tree and died.

"Aw, this is the second time." Gojo Satoru smiled at her as he caught her just in time after the explosion.

"Y-You did this! You brought them here!" Miyo accused.

"Do you not remember what I called you the other day? A curse magnet. They've been following us right from when we left the hospital. I mean, its easier to clean up the mess in an isolated area. I'm so lazy to draw a curtain in a public space." Gojo explained. "So technically, you're the one who brought them here."

His hand was still wrapped around Miyo's waist as he held her against him. When Miyo realised the proximity, she immediately took a step back. "I didn't-" She started, but was interrupted when Gojo Satoru grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards his chest. Miyo's eyes widened as she saw a spear charged with cursed energy that stopped before an invisible wall in front of her. She turned to look at Gojo Satoru and then at the spear.

A prideful smile graced his lips as Gojo tilted his head slightly. "Grade 2 curses don't really have any consciousness, you know. They can't decide who they should or shouldn't fight. That's why, I'll go easy on you guys, even though you had the audacity to show up in front of me today." He said and Miyo just stood there, her body half wrapped in Gojo Satoru's arm. He held her tightly against him, almost as if he was aware she would make an attempt to escape. In the cold breeze of the night, Miyo hadn't realised she craved the warmth of Gojo Satoru's body so much. "Miyo," He started in his honey-like voice. She looked up at Gojo who was now smiling like a little kid.

"Gojo, I want to go home." Miyo said, almost pleading. Gojo Satoru nodded, then let go of Miyo's hand. She looked at him in confusion as he took a few steps away from her.

"I'm not your bodyguard, Miyo. I won't protect you for nothing." Gojo Satoru warned, but Miyo was still clueless. He had made no move to defeat the Grade 2 curses yet and the danger still hovered over her head. There was a reason he had still kept the curses alive.

"What are you doing?" Miyo asked, her eyes filled with shock and betrayal. One of the curses shot a flame of cursed energy in Miyo's direction and she fell to the ground in an attempt to dodge it. The flame struck a tree and set it on fire. "Are you playing with me?" Miyo yelled from the distance.

"No, I'm not. I'm trying to strike a deal with you." Gojo Satoru replied casually, from the safe distance he maintained. The curse suddenly appeared in front of Miyo and grabbed her throat. She was lifted off her feet as it attempted to choke her to death.

"Hey, yellow card!" Gojo Satoru interrupted as he shifted his gaze towards the curse. The arm it used to choke Miyo tore to shreds and detached from its body. "You have to let her speak."

Miyo fell to the ground gasping for air and coughing out as she held her throat. "Gojo," She said when she finally regained her ability to speak. The curse was starting to recover and was standing up to strike her a second time.

"Huh? What was that? I didn't hear you." Gojo Satoru leaned forward as he turned his ear towards Miyo.

Without hesitation, Miyo yelled out, "I'll make the pact with you, so please," She shut her eyes tightly. "please don't abandon me like this."

One statement from Miyo was sufficient. Gojo Satoru suddenly appeared beside her and looked at the two curses. For a Grade 2, he didn't even need to take off his blindfold or use his cursed technique. Just raw cursed energy that radiated from one gaze of his, ripped the two curses apart. A purple liquid splattered on the ground where the curses were annihilated by Gojo Satoru. Miyo couldn't form words yet, so she silently stared at the ground where the curses stood earlier. She realised that Gojo Satoru was far more terrifying than any curse to have ever existed.

"Are you hurt?" Gojo Satoru smiled as he sat down on the ground to meet her eye level. Miyo looked at him and his blindfold still covered his eyes. Suddenly, Miyo spotted remnants of the curse starting to get up and head towards them.

"Behind you!" She yelled to draw Gojo's attention towards it, but that was unnecessary. Without him having to move his finger or even turn around, the curse crumbled to the ground before it could reach them.

"You're safe now, Miyo-chan." Gojo Satoru reassured as he used his fingers to push some strands of hair out of Miyo's face. "Were you scared?" He asked, his voice sweet and charming as always. Miyo shut her eyes and shook her head as her throat filled up. "You need to make the binding vow with me. I can't let you go without that." Gojo Satoru reminded.

"You can take all my cursed energy for yourself, I don't want it. I can't do this anymore." Miyo said in defeat.

"That's not the vow." Gojo Satoru held both her shoulders. "No matter what you do, the cursed relic is with you until the day you die. You have to learn to protect yourself, Miyo. You need to be able to use all that cursed energy to fight off any curse that comes after you." He explained.

"I- I can't-" Miyo looked at him and then the shreds of the curses behind him. Would she ever be capable of something so powerful? It sounded like a fantasy.

"You don't have a choice." He reminded. "I'll repeat the conditions of the vow to you. I will be able to control the intensity of your cursed energy in exchange for my sight. You'll be able to use a pair of my eyes when you temporarily lose your sight to the Catastrophic Relic. I hope its clear to you?" Gojo Satoru asked for the last time. When Miyo nodded in understanding, Gojo Satoru placed a finger under her chin to draw her towards him. He closed his eyes and kissed her lips softly while Miyo's eyes remained wide open. It was a brief, contractual kiss. Gojo Satoru felt nothing, perhaps also because it wasn't the first time he had engaged in such an intimate gesture. However, Miyo's frozen expression told him another story.

"Are you okay?" Gojo Satoru's eyebrows furrowed. "You know that a kiss is important to settle a binding vow, right?" He confirmed. Miyo looked away and nodded, her fingers still slightly shaky. "You're trembling, Miyo, are you sure you're okay?" He asked again as he took Miyo's hand into his own.

"I'm okay, Gojo Satoru. We should head back." Miyo composed herself physically, but mentally, her brain had turned to mush. She kept her eyes off Gojo Satoru and looked anywhere but at him.

"The pact is done, we'll test it tomorrow morning. Let me take you home." He started as he pulled Miyo up to a standing position. They observed that the car was not in a condition to be used anymore. "Come here," Gojo Satoru pulled Miyo into an embrace, drawing a gasp from her lips.

Miyo placed her hand on his chest to push him away. "What are you-" She asked in embarrassment.

"I'm taking you home. Hold on to me tight." He said. When Miyo saw her surroundings begin to change shape and colour, she wrapped her arms tightly against Gojo Satoru and buried her face into his chest. When her shoes made contact with the ground again, Miyo finally had the courage to pull away. Some strands of her hair temporarily stuck to Gojo Satoru's clothes and the static electricity made a crackling sound as she stepped back.

"Thank you for protecting me, again." Miyo bowed down in gratitude. Despite all the ill will she held against him, she couldn't deny the fact that he had saved her life multiple times.

Gojo Satoru just reached to mess up her hair and gave her a charming smile. "It wasn't for free anyway, so its alright, Miyo. Don't thank me. Get some sleep, you've had a long night." He said before disappearing from her sight.

After he left, Miyo looked at herself in the mirror and placed her fingers on her lips. Gojo Satoru had no idea that this was just the beginning of a sleepless night for Miyo.
