Chapter 47- Begin again
(Y/N) POV:
Waking up the next day is instantly different. I'm no longer hiding the biggest secret of my life, it's out in the open and my soulmates have accepted me for who I am; scars and all. I decided not to drop it on them that I own the company too because frankly I don't think their hearts could take on any more surprises- and Kookie may or may not have wheedled me on the way home to keep it a secret because he enjoyed having some leverage over them.
Each step feels lighter, more buoyant, and even though the weather isn't great- a light sleet of rain and grey clouds, nothing seems to be capable of bringing me down from my floaty feeling. I slip out of bed to go to the kitchen to make a start on breakfast but am pleasantly surprised when I see Hobi oppa already there, music playing from one of his portable speakers as he flits around the kitchen, spatula in hand as he tends to the stove and starts gathering fruits. I silently slip over, sneaking my arms around him in a quiet hug, face pressed against his back.
He startles, yelling and jumping slightly before he twists to face me. His body sags and then he's waving his spatula at me in what he assumes is a threatening manner.
"Is this the way to treat your sunshine?" he scolds before the familial glowing smile overcomes his face and he reciprocates the hug, throwing his arms around me and dropping a kiss at the top of my head.
I smile against his chest before moving out of his arms so I can help him, not that he ends up letting me do much. He's more content to lift me up onto the counter so I can watch him deftly make eggs, toast bread, and quickly get to work making smoothies. His eyes are intense and focused on the tasks at hand but he keeps stopping by to briefly squeeze my hand or peck my cheek or bring a glass to my lips to taste the smoothie he's made. He's so caring and tender that seeing him so at ease cooking for all of us reminds me of the date we had. And it sets my heart into a flutter.
When the others walk in, they're already dressed, only me and Hobi oppa are still clad in pyjamas, and they smile, a chorus of 'good mornings' ringing through the air and quick movements of dropping hugs and kisses onto us. The domestic scene of this all just serves to remind me, tell me of what our lives together will look like.
I haven't felt so happy in a long, long time. They've made my life begin, truly begin. And I can't wait for it. Because I'm with them.
Once we finish breakfast, I note that the slight drizzle has come to a stop- as though the weather itself couldn't stay dismal in face of our happiness. I have psychology with Tae today and then a shift at Serendipity later. I can't wait for life to get back to normal, except it'll be a new normal, and that just makes me more eager.
After showering and dressing I find Tae waiting for me downstairs, bounding about with an excitable energy as he waits for me. When he spots me with my backpack on, headphones slung about my neck, he runs over, grabbing my hand in his and yelling out a quick 'bye' to the others before pulling me out of the living room and towards the door. I'm pulled along so quickly, I can't spin around to say goodbye so I too yell one out over my shoulder, hearing the amused chuckles that follow it.
Tae is impatient as he waits for me to pull on my shoes and I'm confused as to why he is so eager and excited to get to lessons. He's never like this usually. We chatter as we walk, Tae points out new and interesting things and places he sees on his walk and it makes me see him with a fonder light.
He points out the nest he always looks up to see in the large tree that stands tall outside the campus gates, the bakery where he likes getting fresh tiger baguettes from, the old couple he always sees sitting at the fountain and the small details which I've never truly stopped to appreciate. The way he looks at clouds and makes images of them, crafting stories from them. The way he awes and marvels over the numerous shades a single leaf can hold, the way people are always rushing about in a hurry but he stops to look at the way shopkeepers assemble and decorate the window displays for the day.
He's incredibly observant and his narrative provides me with such a fresh and new way of seeing the small daily details that the world overlooks. People are solely immersed in their own lives they fail to see what surrounds them. But Tae doesn't.
When we enter the lecture hall, its not completely filled yet and I make my way to my seat habitually but am surprised when Tae's hand jolts me back, stopping me from sliding into my usual seat.
"Sit with me (Y/N)-ah." He pouts and before even waiting for an answer tugs me to go into the row behind, gently nudging me towards the empty seat next to his, plopping down with a pleased grin.
I narrow my eyes at him. The back row is only ever really used by Tae. But this immediately draws eyes when the people who usually smile and stop to chat to me and double take when they see my seat vacant and me sitting next to a beaming Tae. His chest puffs proudly and he's practically preening from the eyes that now linger over us in shock and wonder. He's revelling in it.
I huff, ignoring him to pull out my notebook and pencil case, settling down to focus and make notes. Soulmate or not, he is not getting in the way of me focusing.
TAE POV:
I can't help but feel like a peacock whose feathers are on full display and I preen from all the awed stares that the students shoot me and (Y/N). That's right, all eyes are on me and our last soulmate. When I turn to face (Y/N), I'm fully expecting bashful smiles and soft eyes to greet me, not her resolutely facing the front, pen poised in hand and notebook open. Huh.
She wants to play it that way, fine. Let's play (Y/N). Let's see how long you can ignore me or pretend I'm not here. I love games and I'm going to win this one. Bring. It. On.
----
I'm disgruntled and put out when her attention doesn't waver from the professor, instead she continues to diligently take notes, beautiful handwriting flowing out of the pen and onto the page, notes after notes filling sheet after sheet. They're concise and in her own words- I watch as she deftly switches pens to make links or comments to past work or lessons.
I snap myself out of it, now is not the time to ogling her work. My own notebook lies in front of me, notes barely made in comparison. Somehow, I ended up being distracted by (Y/N) just sitting there working. She wasn't even paying me attention. It was irking me. Bothered me. But I wasn't going to admit it.
I decided I had had enough of her not paying me attention. I was right here, why wasn't she focusing on me. My hands slowly darted out, reaching out to grab her pen but she moved it aside, evading my tactic of taking away the tool that would allow her to continue working.
Huffing but in no way deterred, I let myself lean back, lull her into a false sense of security that I had given up and gone back to working, hand writing notes whilst from the corner of my eye I saw her smile slightly. So she knew what she was doing. Well well. I refocused my attention on the professor, attentively noting down the notices she was giving and the books she was recommending. (Y/N) was leaning forward, eyes rapt with attention and then I took the opportunity. Snagged it.
My hand slithered out to dart behind her back and when she leaned back moments later, I was already successfully grasping her waist from the right. She startled but tried to ignore it. The hand I was resting on her waist now slowly, teasingly moved up and down, rubbing her side over the jacket she was wearing. I glanced at her face; it was still resolute. Hmmm. Better up my game.
My hand slides through her jacket now resting on her shirt, I can feel the warmth of her skin even through the fabric that separates skin to skin contact, prevents me from sliding my fingers across the sensitive skin of her waist in light teasing movements. Instead I just cup her waist, a small tight squeeze that causes her breath to hitch.
My eyes dart around, no-one is looking, no-one has heard the way her breath sounds beautiful when it catches in her throat, so soft, so perfect. My fingers teasingly fiddle with the hem of her shirt, before darting to stroke the soft skin of her waist, tips of my fingers just ever so slightly brushing against her mark. There. Her body instinctively leans into the touch, back arching as she pushes herself against my fingers, her eyes slide to mine wide and shocked. I smile at her.
Whilst I know the feeling of having your mark touched is pleasurable, it can also help emote the feeling of the soulmate touching it. And right now she knows the teasing that's bubbling inside me. The mischievousness.
What is completely unexpected though, is the way she darts away, rushing out the other end of the row when the professor dismisses us. Back hastily packed and her retreating figure rushing away. And I'm the one left there gaping at the now vacated seat. Wondering what just happened.
(Y/N) POV:
I rush out of the lecture hall, face feeling heated and no doubt flaming red. It had been so hard focusing with Tae sitting next to me, but the teasing touches, the feeling of his nails gently scraping against my mark...I pant, chest heaving as I try to bring myself down into a calmer state. If I hadn't gotten out when I did, I would've pulled his lips to mine, regardless of who'd have seen.
Just then my phone chimes and my hands scrabble to pull it out of my jeans pocket.
Lunch gorgeous? 😉
I smile at the flirty tones of the text and shoot back a reply to Jiminie. Once I know that he's waiting for me outside campus, I rush to join him, cheeks still warm from what Tae had just done in the lecture hall, the phantom sensation of his fingers still heating my skin.
JIMIN POV:
I'm waiting outside campus waiting for (Y/N) to come out, I've sent Tae a text too but he hasn't replied yet so I just send him another text saying where we'll be in case, he wants to join us. Jin hyung said he'll make his way directly there so here I am, waiting for two of my younger soulmates.
(Y/N) comes rushing out minutes later, hair blowing out behind her, cheeks rosy as she dashes towards me. I hold open my arms for her, waiting for her warm body to collide with mine as I scoop her close to me. Breathing in the scent that is naturally her, under the floral undertones of her perfume and the smell of whoever's shampoo she's used. Coconut. It's mine, I realise with a pleased hum.
"Let's go." I say, arm slung around her shoulder as we begin walking.
It's a companionable silence, one that doesn't require words to fill it because I am drinking in her presence, the way her shoulders are loose and relaxed under my arm and the way she shifts closer when a large bustle of students come charging down the pavement.
I can hear the pounding of footsteps behind us, growing louder and louder so I shift to the side, tugging (Y/N) with me so the person can pass. Instead they come crashing into my back and I manage to keep my footing before all three of us go tumbling onto the ground- (Y/N) would've become the unfortunate victim to a pile of bodies.
I twist and smile when I see it's Tae, he's slightly out of breath and his hair is blown into an adorable mess by the breeze but I just reach out to snag his hand. His eyes fall on (Y/N) and his lips tighten even whilst his eyes are glimmering. He stops abruptly, bringing us all to a stop and it's then she realises he's joined us.
He leans forward, head bent and lips curling into a dangerous smirk.
"You weren't running away from me, were you jagi?" he drawls, words coming out in a deep timbre that sends shivers dancing across my spine. His tongue comes out to wet his lips slightly as he eyes her and I can't help but feel affected too.
She presses back into me, we're near to the little hole-in-the-wall bistro café I was planning to take them too, so there is not many people around. The combined effect of her body fitting with mine and the dark, dilated eyes of Tae which slowly graze over her face is tearing away at my self-control.
Just then Jin hyung arrives, sweeping on all of us with a cheery smile and arms wide open for hugs. He coos over (Y/N) who shoots him a desperate glance, arms reaching out for him. He gladly reciprocates and hugs her tight, pulling her out of sight from Tae when he spins her around before setting her gently back onto her feet. And I can't decide if his timing is a blessing or a curse. Because who knows what would've happened if he hadn't?
