Chapter 28- is this all a wishful dream?
JIN POV:
"Let's go." (Y/N) said, her soft voice pulling me towards her but all I can focus on, all that my attention is on is the way her lips part to say those words, those lips that have been teasing me since I saw them looking swollen by kisses, kisses I too wanted to shower her with. Just as she reached the door my mind caught up with my actions, body already reaching out for her, hand darting around her wrist before I was spinning her around and pinning her to the door with my own body. Every part where our bodies were touching in some way was sending my body into overdrive with the sparks shooting across my skin.
I reached out to brush a wavy lock of her hair off her face, fingers brushing against the soft skin of her cheek before I tilted her head up and gently brushed her lips with my own. I waited for her to push me away, for her to shy away from the touch but she leaned in further, pressing her lips firmly against mine. I was pleasantly shocked before I was tilting my head, deepening the kiss as I regained control, lips pulling her own between mine as I sucked at the tender flesh, smiling when she breathily gasped. Our lips were sliding over each other, whilst it was new, it felt as natural as breathing, like this was how we were meant to be. Lips connected, slowly exploring each other, I felt her tongue brush against my mouth which opened with fervour before I was slowly coaxing her tongue to intertwine with my own before I parted our lips. I looked at her hooded eyes which slowly opened, eyelashes fluttering as she met my eyes, lips parted slightly, glistening and slightly swollen. I couldn't help but lean forward to press our lips together again, slowly, leisurely feeling her against me before I separated from them, the urge to dive back in strong but I leaned down, kissing my way across her jaw and then down her neck, enamoured with the way her neck automatically tilted back granting me further access to the tender skin of her throat which I couldn't help but slowly explore with my mouth, feeling the way her breath hitched as I peppered soft kisses across the column of her neck, feeling her pulse under my mouth.
I couldn't get enough, but I soon became aware of two loud voices from outside the door, two very familiar voices. I looked down at her, smiling at the way her body was pressing tightly against my own, the way her mouth was letting little wavering exhales of breath. I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her slightly away from the door which was suddenly being swung open.
Her head flew to see who'd opened the door before her cheeks were sporting a rosy hue and she was scrabbling away from me but my arms tightened around her waist, not willing to relinquish the wholeness I'd been feeling to look over her head to two of our soulmates. Yoongi and Tae.
But there was nothing to be ashamed of, nothing to hide. Not to mention I felt incredibly proud of having our soulmate in our arms, so thrilled with how responsive she'd been, I was getting hooked on her presence, her warmth and soul. I didn't know how we'd managed to go so long without.
YOONGI POV:
"Come on hyung!" Tae whined as he pulled at my arms whilst we stood waiting outside Jin hyung's and (Y/N)'s cooking class. The rest of the class had already filed out but there was no sign of either of them. Tae wanted to surprise them, especially (Y/N), by taking them to Mono where the rest of our soulmates were waiting to have lunch together.
"Tae relax, they're just packing away probably." I said, words failing to soothe and calm the antsy boy.
He just huffed before he was storming in, each stride full of determination to drag the two out if he had to, I allowed myself to be dragged, unable to help feeling fondness at the impatience Tae was displaying to be with all of us.
Surprisingly, the kitchens they cooked in were all empty, void of anyone and I looked to see Tae's face colour with confusion.
"Where are they?" he said, head darting to and fro as he examined the kitchens as though they'd materialise right in front of his eyes.
My ears suddenly picked up on a soft thudding sound, head darting to look at the storage room, door which was closed but it had definitely come from there. Was there someone there? My ability honed in on all the soft sounds, clothes lightly brushing against a surface. I could also make out that there were distinctly two people there, I grabbed Tae's hand and led him over, stopping in front of the closed door. Tae looked at the door with bewilderment but then there was a breathy gasp, a shuddery exhale and I didn't need my ability to pick it up. It was there for Tae to here too. Whilst the sound was one, I hadn't heard before, it was alluring somehow. A soft teasing sound that I would record and play a thousand times over, one I wanted to intertwine with the sounds of my soulmates. Tae's eyes widened before settling into a narrowed glare, shooting lasers at the closed door. Clearly, he'd realised who it was. Who was it though? My mind was niggling with the urge to find out who those sounds belong to.
Just then Tae reached out to swing the door open, and my eyes lit up in recognition on the two people; Jin hyung and (Y/N). Her face flew to look at us, a rosy hue colouring both her cheeks and she scrambled to distance herself from hyung, but he wasn't having it. His arms remained on her waist and pulled her even closer to him. I don't know why she scrambled away but heartbeat did suddenly rocket, a loud fast thudding that echoed in my ears.
But she looked so perfect in hyung's arms, so natural that I couldn't help the smile that stretched across my face. Tae looked anything but pleased, going forward to pull (Y/N) out of Jin hyung's arms before he was intertwining their hands and looking at us impatiently.
"Let's go then." He said and led the way to Mono, not once letting go of her hand as he chattered to her, Jin hyung's arm around my own waist as we followed, smiling at the sight.
(Y/N) POV:
We entered Mono, the classy design never failing to soothe me and put me automatically at ease. But my mind was bustling with thoughts. Should I or shouldn't I be glad that Tae and Yoongi hadn't commented? Whilst I was slightly glad that neither had said anything, it bothered me that they seemed unaffected. Was I making the right choices or all the wrong ones?
I hadn't realised we had reached the table and I had been staring at them, zoned out, until I heard a few laughs and then my name being called. I looked at the hand waving in front of my face, the hand withdrawing so I could see Hoseok looking at me both bemused and slightly concerned.
"You okay there (Y/N)?" he teased.
I realised I had inadvertently done what I was trying to avoid- bring all their attention onto me.
"Uh yeah, I'm fine." I was just about to slide into the seat next to Kookie when Tae cleared his throat noisily, distracting me momentarily whilst he claimed that seat instead. Brows furrowed, I just sat next to him instead not seeing the way everyone's eyes had interestedly glanced at the two boys before smiling.
Hoseok leaned forward, eyes glimmering with some sort of secret, face leaning towards me over the table. His fingers teasingly trailed across my cheeks before his thumb just fluttered over my lips before retreating slightly.
"You look ravishing (Y/N)." he said words oozing in a low drawl.
I leaned back flustered, they knew what to say to make me squirmy and conscious as the others' eyes briefly darted to my lips before smiling.
The way they so easily complimented and flattered each other, their flirty behaviour with each other had begun to involve me more frequently these past few days. It meant that they had no qualms treating me differently to each other but also, I felt touched when I realised, they'd done so slowly so as not to plunge me deeply into something I may have been uncomfortable with. Not that I was uncomfortable, it was different to the teasing camaraderie of the people I was extremely close to, more intense because it was my soulmates. They didn't make my heart flutter in the same way my soulmates did. The way Hobi just had. Yoongi shot me a small smile and I realised that he'd probably heard the way my heart had reacted. I wanted to sink down into my seat in mortification, but he hadn't said anything, just shot me a look of understanding. I felt like I was the only one being so affected by them, they didn't seem largely affected or a mess by my presence.
----
I bit into my sandwich, tongue darting out to lick my lips instinctively, I slowly chewed the mouthful, swallowing before I turned to proffer my sandwich to Namjoon who sat on my other side, holding it up to him for him to take a bite. He looked at me eyes warm before glancing at the sandwich, I brought it closer to his lips which he parted before lowering his head slightly to take a bite. I didn't break eye contact with him as he chewed, entranced by the shining warm orbs. I was so intently focused on him, the way his throat bobbed as he chewed and then the small dusting of pink on his cheeks.
I was gushing mentally of how adorable he looked, dimples popping out as he looked back down at me, determined to maintain eye contact even though I could see he was slightly flustered that the nickname slipped out automatically.
"How was it Joonie--?" Oh. I saw his eyes widen with surprise.
I backpedalled.
"I, um, if you don't like it I—" he cut me off.
"I love it." Three words that set my heart at ease and I couldn't help but beam at him.
Then the moment was broken by Tae's voice.
"(Y/N)-ah, try some of this." I heard twisting to see Tae holding out a forkful of pasta which I accepted, lips closing over the fork he was proffering. I hummed in satisfaction at the taste, nodding eagerly at him.
I bit down again on my sandwich watching the others feed each other, smiling at the sight, just as I was about to put my sandwich down a large warm hand grasped mine bringing the sandwich up as Tae looking me dead straight in the eyes, holding me captive and unable to pull away as he took a bite right from where I had, his own lips darting out to lick the small smear of sauce.
In that moment I strongly suspected Tae was using his ability to make it impossible for me to tear my eyes away but there was no way of knowing. The rest of lunch passed in food being exchanged and Tae for some reason plastering himself to my side, small physical touches that were slowly driving me crazy. A brush of hands, legs touching side by side and even his fingers which came to wipe something off my lips even though I could've sworn there was nothing there. But I wasn't complaining, it was just slightly more than he usually did.
When we'd all finished, I regretfully told them that I had work, not that I didn't love my job but seeing their bright expressions dim slightly tugged at my heartstrings.
"I'll see you all later." I said, waving at them before leaving the café.
Whilst walking I pulled my phone out remembering that I had to contact my editor.
"Hello editor-nim!" I said brightly into the phone, body thrumming with happiness.
"Hello (Y/N)-ah. What's this bright cheerful voice? I'd almost forgotten you were capable of making such a cheery tone." She said on the other end, voice warm and slightly teasing.
"And how many times have I had to tell you...stop calling me that! Can you not just call me unnie?" she wheedled on the other end.
I laughed already seeing the upset face she'd no doubt be pulling right now.
"Okay, okay unnie. I just wanted to say I've sent through the next few episodes." I said.
"Yup I've got them, I don't know why you've hired me, I don't do much you know." she said.
"Ah no unnie, you're a great help!" I reassured her.
"But do you have to make Dae Hyeon's life so sad and morbid? It's such a sad tale, where do you come up with such ideas?" she asked.
I felt a bitter smile appear, knowing she couldn't see the expression on my face.
"Because unnie, such things happen in life." I sighed down the phone, trying to push the blur of memories threatening to rise to the surface.
"Yeah but such a life? Wow...Dae Hyeon's got a cursed fate indeed." She said. Even though she didn't know how much those words struck my heart, I couldn't help the hurt.
"Is it even possible for her to get a happy ending?" she continued, rambling on the other end.
But the words turned to static in my ears, white noise as the words 'cursed fate' rang in my ears and above that, the question she'd just asked.
Was it even possible for her to get a happy ending? Was it possible for me?
I didn't realise my name was being called from the other end of the phone, the voice seeming so far away.
"I don't know unnie, I just hope so." I whispered into the phone, voice sounding distant to my own ears, disconnected, bodiless.
And that was all I could do. Hope.
