Chapter 11- Hospital
KOOKIE POV:
I was staring at the place from where Jaebum hyung just rushed up and left before turning to see Yoongi hyung still standing there with a look of shock and concern on his face. The bond was full of anxiety and fear and I didn't need to have Hobi hyung's ability to know the room was full of negative energy. We all bustled closer to Yoongi hyung, the face of Jaebum hyung's face pleading and tears slipping down his fear blown eyes running through my mind over and over again. What had happened, who was kitty? And why was he so worried?
"I hope Jaebum-ah is okay." Jin hyung sighed, rubbing Yoongi hyung's shoulder, a frown twisting his usually smiling lips. Hobi hyung's face was strained as though the negative energy was becoming suffocating for him, it didn't happen normally, but he was feeling it both in the room and through the bond. Namjoon hyung slipped his hand into Hobi hyung's. I was lost and clueless, what were we meant to do?
Just then the door burst open and the six guys walked in laughing and joking, all of them physically touching at least one of their soulmates but the laughter faded when they noticed us and no doubt the expressions on our faces.
"Is everything okay?" Mark hyung asked delicately, the rest of them shifting into straighter postures, eyes alert.
"Where's Jaebum hyung?" Bambam piped up, scanning the room and realising their last soulmate wasn't there.
I gulped, a lump in my throat, how on earth were we meant to break the news to them?
Our silence must have indicated something because they began shifting on their feet nervously, faces lined with apprehension. I couldn't bring my mouth to open and speak. I couldn't be the bearer of bad news, my heart pounding in my chest. Yoongi hyung picked up on the violent thudding of my heart, ability picking up on the shift in frequency as he intertwined our fingers- giving me comfort.
"Jaebum went to the hospital." Namjoon hyung spoke up, his voice was shaky.
Their faces blanched in shock and fear.
"W-what did you say?" Jackson got out looking at his friend with none of his bright personality.
"He's fine boys. But he said to tell you Seongdong Hospital, and that it's kitty." Jin hyung slowly said, looking to the guys for an explanation.
"Kitty...?" Yugyeom asked and I couldn't recognise my friend through the weak trembling voice. He never spoke like that. Not when he got injured and tripped down some stairs and sprained his ankle, not when he got into an argument with Bambam but now here he was.
Who was kitty? I wondered.
The guys seemed to press closer to each other, seeking physical reassurance and comfort from each other.
"T-thank you for telling us hyung...I'm sorry for cancelling on you for dinner." Mark hyung said before the guys left, feet hurrying out the door so similar to the way Jaebum hyung had, but tremors shook their bodies and I heard a sob.
I looked at my soulmates and saw they had the same expression of confusion and worry on their faces, whoever kitty was to them, I hoped it all worked out.
JB POV:
I sat on the chair next to (Y/N)'s bed looking down at her motionless figure. She was extremely pale, her body looking smaller and vulnerable under the hospital sheets. There were several drips attached to her, machines monitoring her vitals and if it wasn't for the slow reassuring beeping sound of the heart monitor, I would've feared the worst. Her heartbeat was too slow, but it was there, she was still there. Her small hands lay by her side and I watched as medication was pumped into her bloodstream. Now that I looked at her, I saw dark circles bruising the skin under her eyes, she seemed frail and she'd lost weight. How had this all happened, and I didn't know? It had only been a week since I last saw her, but it seemed like she'd drastically changed and suffered in that time.
It pained me to think she hadn't reached out to me. All those excuses and extra lessons or work shifts now making sense to me, she'd been rejecting meeting up with me or one of the guys so we wouldn't pick up on anything.
She was yet to regain consciousness. The doctor had me fill in a mountain of paperwork and it was only because I knew her for so long that I was able to fill in her medical history; I was her official guardian on paperwork after all. The doctor told me that a couple had brought her in, she'd collapsed in the park. I was panicking thinking what could've happened if she had collapsed somewhere out of sight, then would I have known? Would anyone have found her?
I clutched at her hand needing to feel the warmth of it to reassure me she was here. The doctor had finished conducting tests and was yet to come and tell me the results, I prayed to every deity every god that I believed in and even ones I didn't to help her. To save her.
Just then the door slid open and the doctor entered, a sombre expression on her face and clipboard in hand. I watched with fear coursing through my veins as she stepped closer to where I sat, sympathy as she looked down at me and our hands.
"Doctor Choi, please tell me she's fine." I whispered, hating the weakness in my voice. I needed to be strong, but it was so hard when I was alone.
"Jaebum-ssi, her body has been steadily weakening because of her close proximity with her soulmates and the fact she hadn't bonded with them." She said, looking down at (Y/N)'s unconscious figure with sorrow in her eyes.
My breath was shaky as I exhaled. It had gotten worse. It was a horrible twist of fate to put her so close to them and yet not close enough- she wasn't bonded.
"Also...her tests have showed that she has bonded with one of her soulmates, but the process was left incomplete, it is fatal for soulmates to be separated after bonding. Were you not aware of this?" she asked.
My brain was processing that (Y/N) had bonded with one of her soulmates and then the process was incomplete. I knew it must've been accidental because there was no way (Y/N) intended to bond with them, she had refused outright. But who could've it have been? I wanted to go and make them suffer but right now I was the only one there for (Y/N). No-one else was.
"I see from your expression you know who her soulmates are Jaebum-ssi. But I can tell you this her body is struggling to function. We will wait for her to become conscious before we administer any more medication, it is simply dangerous and unhealthy for her already weak state." She said before gently clasping my shoulder.
I looked up at those aged eyes, lined with experience.
"Don't take too long Jaebum-ssi." She said softly before leaving me alone with (Y/N) again.
I don't know how long I sat there with my hand holding hers, it felt like an eternity alone, but then the door slid open and the fist squeezing my heart eased slightly as the bond thrummed with the presence of my soulmates. They hurried to my side all of us pressing against each other in some way, my head tilting to rest against Youngjae's sternum, his hands coming around to hold me. I tried to blink back the stinging tears, but I couldn't. It had been sheer agony watching (Y/N) lay there, a lifeless figure, on my own with only my thoughts for company and I felt to relieved knowing I wasn't alone, I had my strength with me now. I felt hands thumb away at the tears, a kiss being pressed on to my forehead tenderly.
"You did so well Jaebum-ah, let us help you." Mark whispered, forehead resting against mine, before kissing where the tears had been, every touch easing the knot that had tightly coiled me up. My breath was shuddery, the rest of the group looking at (Y/N) with sorrow, tears slipping down their own cheeks.
We all owed it to (Y/N). She was the reason we found each other, she meant everything to us. To see her like this was unbearable.
I filled them in on what the doctor had said, everyone's expressions dimming as we settled down around her for the night. None of us were going to leave her, all of us tied to her. Even if someone physically tried to pull us away, the bond between us all wouldn't enable them to.
----
The night was the longest I have ever lived through, my body was heavy and fatigued but even though my body pleaded for rest, for sleep, every time my eyes slowly slid shut they'd fly open in a panic after the violent scenarios flashed through my head, my fear and worry not letting me rest. The guys were the same, eyes red and filled with tiredness but each of them in varying positions around the room, they were nestled next to at least one soulmate, needing reassurance more than ever in this situation. I couldn't bear to move from the seat next to her, ears highly alert to the beeping of the heart monitor. The whole night had passed, and it was still slow and more than that not once had (Y/N)'s eyes flickered, or her body moved in the sightless. It scared me to even think of it, but she looked alarmingly like a corpse, but it was the slow rise and fall of her chest that reassured me she was alive.
The day dragged on, one of the guys leaving briefly to wash up or go to the toilet or get some food for the rest of us. I had left to splash some water on my face and gone to the canteen to get coffee and food for all of us, but I had done it in a hurry. Even though I knew the guys were there, it still panicked me to stay away from her, what if something happened in the time I was gone?
After passing through the longest night, the day trudged past even slowly, every moment spent in waiting for (Y/N) to wake up but she hadn't, why hadn't she?
None of the guys could reassure me she'd be fine when they were drowning in the same fear as I was, and we hadn't received any further news. Doctor Choi had visited regularly every four hours or so to check but left without saying much, lips pressed tightly, eyes displaying worry.
The sun was setting when Doctor Choi slipped back in, eyes grave as she approached the bed.
"(Y/N)'s body is unable to wake up because of the added weakness from both incomplete bonding and the rejection of the pull. We all hoped and thought it wouldn't get this far but if you do not bring her soulmates urgently, she may slip further into Soul Paralysis. She needs to be bonded or her life is at risk." She said, each word breaking every resolve and shred of strength I had, my body slumping at the thought of losing her.
"If you can't, I'm afraid nothing can be done." Her sombre voice echoed through the silent room and then the soft clacking of her shoes as she left us to our misery.
"We need to get them. There's no way I'm losing her." Mark said, voicing what all of were feeling, his voice was firm, composed at this moment as he made the decision pulling out his phone to call them.
And even though I knew she might hate us for it, we all knew it had to be done.
Forgive us (Y/N), I thought pressing a kiss to her forehead.
----
NAMJOON POV:
My phone rang suddenly breaking us out of our focus on the movie playing on the large screen. The boys swinging their heads to glare at me, even though there was no heat behind the stare. Raising my hands apologetically, I glanced at the screen, confused as to why Mark was calling at this time.
I answered bringing it to press to my ear.
"Hello?" I said.
"Namjoon, there's no time to waste. I need you and the guys to get to Seongdong Hospital RIGHT. NOW. I'll explain everything once you get here so don't ask questions. Come to the ICU." He said voice shaking and trembling. I had never heard him sounding so distraught or uncomposed and it made panic well up in me in response.
"Mark—" I was cut off.
"Namjoon I am begging you. Please hurry." He said hanging up soon after.
The eyes were still on me as I brought the phone down, hand losing its strength.
"We need to go to the ICU at Seongdong Hospital, Mark called." My voice sounded detached, I needed to keep strong for the group, be the level-headed one in this situation, as I got to my feet rushing to the door, the others not far behind me.
I ignored the questions and waited until we were all in the car and driving to the hospital, Jin hyung's hands gripped tightly on the steering wheel, showing the white of his knuckles, as I told them the limited information Mark had passed on but everyone reacted similarly when I told them how panicked and desperate he had been.
When we got to the hospital, we all hurried to the ICU unit but feared what we would find, I hoped the guys were all okay. Please let them be okay.
We stood outside the door, none of us able to bring ourselves to opening the door when Jimin used his telekinesis ability to slide it open, even though he didn't want to physically. When we entered, feet tentatively, the guys were crowded around a bed, but I couldn't see who was on it, their bodies blocking them from view. I mentally did a headcount, heart lurching violently when I counted only 6. I did it again, panic rising and welling like the crest of a wave when I couldn't spot Jinyoung. He was on the bed?
The panic resonated in the bond; the rest of the guys having noticed too.
"Jinyoung hyung...." Jiminie breathed out, scared of the confirmation.
"Is right here." A tired voice called out from behind us as he entered, closing the door behind him as he walked around us, hand coming to rest on Youngjae's waist.
Wait...if they were all fine, then who was on the bed?
Having sensed my thoughts, the group silently conversed before moving away from the bed allowing us to move forward.
It wasn't only me who froze when we saw.
