Chapter: 5

Piper's P.O.V (A/N: Didn't expect that did you?)

(A/N: So this chapter is basically how many things change when Annabeth dies. Sorry if I took long to post it or if the chapter is short and nooby

Also, let's say that this is just after the little 'Cupid session' Nico had there.)

Piper didn't know much about the Mediterranean, but she was pretty sure that it wasn't supposed to be so dam (sorry-not) cold in July.

"It's the scepter," Nico murmured. "It has to be.

Ever since Jason and Nico had returned from Diocletian's Palace, they'd been acting nervous and cagey. Something big had happened there- but they weren't telling anyone about it.

She was lost in her thoughts, when suddenly Nico's eyes widened.

"Nico?" she asked. "What's wrong?"

"No... no, it can't be..." Was all he said.

"Nico, don't scare us. Seriously, what's wrong?" Jason asked, concerned.

He looked at them, "Annabeth Chase... is dead." was all he said. He immediately left to go.... somewhere.

"No.... It can't be." Piper muttered. Tears silently flowed from her cheeks.

"Maybe he's wrong.." Hazel suggested.

"Hazel, did you feel it? Her death?" Jason asked, his eyes cloudy.

"Yes.. but- I could be- maybe.... I could be wrong.." She said.

Everyone was teary-eyed, and grief-stricken.

"Hey....I'll go check on Nico okay?" Jason said, before he left. Piper and Leo both exchanged glances, since when was he like that?

(A/N: I'm sorry the reactions weren't nice but I'm really bad at this stuff. Just say that they all cried/mourned in their own rooms and stuff.)

[LE MEGA TIME SKIP] (Cuz I'm lazy)

Percy's P.O.V

'You drool in your sleep.'

'Come back alive Seaweed Brain, then we'll see.'

'I don't know. But I know that I'll be fighting next to you.'

'Never leave me again.'

'Please Percy, change your clothes.. You smell like you've been run over by an electric horse.'

'Remember, I'll always love you.... I'll always love you Percy, Always.'

All these times went through his head. He remembered what he had said when they fell into Tartarus, 'We're staying together. You're not getting away from me. Never again.' But ultimately, it was his fault. And he would never see her again.

He had just gotten the death mist and went through Nyx's palace. Ever since Annabeth had died, he kept on imagining her slapping him playfully or giving him advice. Honestly, it did make him feel a little better.

Currently, he was following Bob through the crowd of monsters. The amount of them might have scared him, but he felt hollow. All he thought was Annabeth. Wise girl. Owl head.

"Focus, Seaweed brain focus. You promised me to not get killed, remember?" He heard her voice in his head.

Under his feet, the ground glistened a nauseating purple, pulsing with webs of veins. In the dim red light of the blood clouds, he probably looked like a freshly risen zombie.

Bob, who was still carrying Annabeth, turned to face Percy. "Stay quiet and be right behind me." He advised. "Also, you can... carry her.." His eyes were full of guilt.

Percy took Annabeth and carried  her bridal style. "Bob, it's no one's fault that she... died. It was her fate." Unfortunately Percy couldn't convince himself that. He really wanted to go up to the fates and smack them with his sword.

"Yes, fates are bad. Fates give bad fate."

Percy chuckled, though it was hollow. "Yup. Now let's get out of this place for once and for all."

(A/N: Ok so, Italics mean Percy's thoughts and Italics+Underline is Annabeth's voice in his head/imagination.)

Wait. If the death mist makes us invisible, how can Bob see us?

Think, Seaweed Brain. It's probably because he's our friend.

What about Nyx?

Um... Maybe because it was her realm or something.. Ugh! I hate not knowing things!

He silently chuckled. Luckily, nobody heard him.

[ANOTHER TIME SKIP CUZ IM LAZY]

Stomping on the heart of Tartarus wasn't as fun as it sounded. The purplish ground was slippery and constantly pulsing. Gnarled lumps of arteries and veins gave Percy some footholds when he had to climb, but he was still going slow.

And of course, the amount of monsters there didn't help. There were hellhounds, arai (his blood boiled seeing them), telkhines, etc.

Percy stumbled, his hand touching a red artery. A tingling sensation went up his arm. "There's water in here." he said  "Actual water."

Bob grunted. "One of the five rivers. His blood."

"His blood?"

"Yes. They all flow through his heart."

Ahead of them, jagged streaks of darkness tore through the air- like lightning, but pure black.

"The doors." Bob said. "Must be a large group going through."

"Do all monsters end up in the House of Hades? How big is that place?"

Bob shrugged. " Maybe they go somewhere else when they step through. The House of Hades is in the earth yes? That is Gaia's realm. She can send her minions wherever she wishes."

His heart sank- if it still could. His friend would already be dealing with the giants and monsters, but now they can even go to Camp Half-Blood or Camp Jupiter. Maybe they could stop his friend before they even reach.

If Gaia has that much power, couldn't she control where you end up?

The fact that she/imaginary her said 'you' was a painful reminder that she was gone. And the point that she just said, made him wish that she wasn't that smart.

Let's hope not

[LE ANOTHER TIME SKIP] (I'm seriously WAY too lazy)

"Our camouflage," Percy said. "Will it disappear if we do something aggressive, like cut the chains?"

"Not sure." Bob replied.

"Okay.... We need a plan." The word plan seemed like another painful reminder other than every second of his life that his Wise girl was dead.

Think Seaweed Brain, think. You just need to cut the chains. You need a distraction.

So..... Bob can distract everyone, while I go and cut the chains...?

She chuckled. Yes. Well now you can add making a plan to the list of hardest things you've ever done.

Hey!

Percy was probably going crazy, but it did make him feel better in a way.

"Bob, can you distract everyone while I cut the chains?" He asked.

"Bob will distract." Bob agreed. "But one person will have to stay behind to press the button."

Percy felt like he was being stabbed repeatedly. He already lost Annabeth, he couldn't lose Bob. But on the other hand, he had promised Annabeth to make it out alive.

"About that.... We'll see later."

[LE ANOTHER TIME SKIP] (I seriously have to work on meh laziness)

One, two-

Before he could strike the chains, a high pitched whine pierced his ears, like the sound of an incoming rocket.

Uh-oh

Then an explosion rocked the hillside. A wave of heat knocked Percy backward. Dark shrapnel ripped through Krios and Hyperion, shredding them as easily as wood in a chipper.

(A/N: Bold+italic means Tartarus)

STINKING PIT.

A hollow voice rolled across the plains, shaking the warm fleshy ground.

Bob staggered to his feet. Somehow the explosion hadn't affected him. He swept his spear in front of him, trying to locate the source of the sound. Small Bob the kitten crawled into his coveralls.

Smart cat.

Percy got up, Annabeth's dead body was a feet away from him. He almost forgot that he had been holding her. He quickly went next to her dead body and looked around for the source of the sound.

TITANS, LESSER BEINGS. IMPERFECT AND WEAK.

In front of the Doors of Death, the air darkened and solidified. The being who appeared was so massive, radiating such pure malevolence, that Percy wanted to go as far away from him as possible.

Instead, he forced his eyes to trace the god's form: starting with his black iron boots, each one as large as a coffin. His legs were covered in dark greaves; his flesh all thick purple muscle, like the ground. His armored skirt was made from thousands of blacked, twisted bones, woven together like chain links and clasped in place by a belt of interlocking monstrous arms.

On the surface of the god's breastplate, murky faces appeared and submerged- giants, Cyclopes, gorgons, and drakons-all pressing against the armour as if trying to get out.

The god's arms were bare-muscular, purple, and glistening-his hands as large as crane scoops.

Worst of all was his head: a helmet of twisted rock and metal with no particular shape-just jagged spikes and pulsing patches of magma. His entire face was a whirlpool-an inward spiral of darkness. As Percy watched, the last particles of Titan essence from Hyperion and Krios were vacuumed into the warrior's maw.

Annabeth stood up next to him. "Well, he looks like a spider."

He raised an eyebrow. "That's the comparison you have?"

"Nah, I just don't like seeing you all scared and that."

"Quote of the year."

She smiled. "Remember, fight with your emotions, but don't let them get the best of you."

"Oh look, we have a new quote of the year."

She laughed, it made his heart jump up and down with joy. "One last request Seaweed brain."

"What?"

"Make sure Tartarus never forgets your name."

He laughed and winked at her. "You got it."

And she disappeared.

"What happened?" Bob asked.

Percy smiled. "Talked to a friend." Bob nodded and they both turned to see Tartarus who was looking at both of them with interest.

Be honoured, for you will be dying at my hands.

(A/N: For those of you who don't get this he basically imagined Annabeth next to him so he's talking to her, though people think that he's just going mad.

Anyway, I know it was nooby and short,  I'm sorry about that so I'll try to make the next chapter much longer. )
