Prologue

SCREAMING echoed throughout the house, piercing, biting, gnawing.

Then, it was silent.

A newborn baby was in its mother's arms, staring avidly up at its mother. It began to growl, baring its teeth.

In one swift bite, it  killed its mother. Another, and its twin brother fell.

Ragged, deep claw marks were imprinted all around the cozy room, cutting through the glittering, white marble.

Liquid crimson started to stain the white color, dripping and pooling onto the chilled, hard floor.

The baby stopped, glanced at the silent, cold bodies that littered the floor, and ran out the door, teeth biting into whatever was in its way.

It came to a stop by a pool of clear, quiet water. The blood moon drifted far above it, illuminating the baby's reflection.

The baby stared into the water, as a gruesome, blood-covered creature glared at it.

Black lips, thick and rubbery, covered the monster's mouth. Golden hair covered half of its face and all of its body, glittering wickedly in the eerie light. It was missing an ear. The reflection had four legs, each one looking like it was from a different animal.

A tiger.

A bear.

A lion.

A panther.

Fangs gutted out from its mouth, shining and deadly. Blue eyes stuck an inch out from its hideous face.

The baby smiled.

The reflection smiled.

Tilting its newborn head, the baby realized that the reflection wasn't someone else.

It was the reflection.

Tears blurred the baby's vision as it started to cry.

The reflection cried with it.

The baby wasn't just a murderer, it was a Beast

Drip.

        Drip.

               Drip.

A cold faucet leaked putrid water as the steady sound echoed throughout the freezing room.

Through the curtains, the moon rose- silent, still, and ominous- rays of reddish-silver light bleeding onto the slabs of marble on the floor. There were no stars, only fog, which wafted in from the open windows, blanketing everything in a velvety sort of gloom.

A lone mouse sniffed the air, whiskers trembling, nose twitching, before quickly scurrying back to its home.

A sudden noice disturbed the silence, a rigorous pounding on the steel door. Heavy breathing followed it.

"Neith- Neith!" A deep, anxious voice panted.

No answer.

"Neith!"

Silence.

A dry sob broke the quietness. Then another, and another.

"Please," the voice cried, cracking and hoarse, "You have to be here. You can't-" The voice stopped, its next words crumbling. "You can't be dead."

The pounding continued, along with more cries, then suddenly, with a fearful shout, it stopped.

The house was silent once more.

A shadow glided across the frosty grass outside, away from a still, and silent body. Dark and terrible, the shadow held a gleaming knife within the depths of its folded, black cloak as it glided away from the gruesome sight.

The body had been alive only moments ago.

The knife was covered in blood.
