Chapter Three: Looking for Clues and Dealing with a Demon

{Paige's POV}— I stared at Lucifer, shocked by what he had just said.

"You... you know what happened to Ben Greenberg?" I repeated. Lucifer chuckled, "I said I may. Doesn't mean I'm completely sure."

George looked over at us and walked over. "Paige?" He said and we looked at him. He seemed startled for a moment before he looked at Lucifer.

"Who's this?" He asked. I glanced at Lucifer then at my partner.

"This is just a... bystander," I said hesitantly. George raised an eyebrow and Lucifer chuckled. He held his hand out to him.

"My name is Lucifer Morningstar," he said, "I'm Paige's friend."

'Friend's a stretch,' I thought as George shook hands with him.

"I'm George Kane," he replied, "and nice to see my partner making friends outside of the Police Department."

He shot me a playful look and I rolled my eyes. Lucifer was watching us with a strange look in his eyes but I chose to ignore it.

"There are some people who are gonna come and take the body," George said, "I'm gonna try and call Icelyn about this."

I nodded, "mmkay." I looked at Lucifer who looked back at me. Once George was gone, I grabbed Lucifer's arm and dragged him over to my car.

"What do you mean, you know who or what killed the pastor?" I asked.

"I mean I know what killed him," he answered, "you said you wanted questions and I'm willing to answer them... for a price."

I narrowed my eyes. This guy couldn't be serious.

"And what does the Devil want?" I nearly growled. Lucifer chuckled softly, "let me stay at your place."

"Hell. No," I immediately hissed. "Oh come now, my dear," he replied tauntingly, "don't you want to solve this case?"

I glanced back at the others as the ambulance rolled up onto the scene. I clenched my fists tightly before they loosened and I let out a deep sigh.

"Fine," I finally relented, pinching the bridge of my nose. Lucifer smiled, "glad we could come to an agreement, my dear Paige."

"Stop calling me that," I said, irritated, "do you know who killed the pastor or not?"

"Yes. It was a demon. Although... I guess you can say that it was a demon possessing an innocent human," he said. I furrowed my eyebrows, "that... shouldn't be possible."

"Oh but it is," he said, leaning down to me, his cheek almost brushing against my own as he whispered, "I told you... God is watching."

I didn't know why but the way he said it made me feel uneasy. I glanced up at the sky for a moment and Lucifer chuckled.

I sighed and rubbed my face.

{Lucifer's POV}— Paige drove up to the police station and she stopped in the parking lot. She sighed and glared at me, "can you actually listen to me this time and stay here?"

"Nope," I said with a smile. She growled softly and I chuckled as we both got out of the car.

We walked into the station and I was surprised to see how spacious it looked. Policemen and policewomen were bustling all over the place.

Paige walked over to the Commissioner's office and she pushed it open. "Icelyn?"

Icelyn looked up from a file in surprise, "Paige?" She looked at me.

"Who's that?"

"I am-" before I could say my name, Paige put her hand over my mouth.

"He's someone who's helping me with today's case," she said quickly. I raised an eyebrow and Icelyn looked even more surprised.

"Um... okay. George filled me in," she said, "the murderer's name is Rudy Beaumonte. He used to be a reporter until he lost his job."

She pulled out a photo and held it out to Paige and I.

Rudy looked oddly unkempt for a murderer.

"I got it," Paige said, "thanks." She patted my shoulder and walked to the door. I almost rolled my eyes and walked after her.

I could feel Icelyn's stare even after I walked out the door.

I looked at Paige and leaned down a bit so I could look at her face, "why didn't you tell her who I really was?"

"I doubt she'd actually believe that you're the Devil," she huffed.

"Hey, Paige."

She tensed up and I looked over to see a blonde woman walking over.

Paige glared at her, "what do you want, Erin?" "Oh, just to make sure you aren't doing anything reckless," she replied and I frowned.

Paige growled softly, "I'm planning on going after Rudy."

Erin raised an eyebrow, "by yourself? Like always?"

"Actually," I almost growled as I got between the two women, "I'll be going with her."

Erin blinked before she frowned at me. "And who the Hell are you?"

I smirked, "my name is Lucifer Morningstar." Paige looked at me.

I grabbed Paige's hand and took her outside. She nearly stumbled after me and when we stopped by the car, she looked at me.

"Why did you do that?" She asked with a frown. "I don't know what you mean," I replied.

"You defended me," she said, "and you told her your actual name. People aren't going to believe you." "My last name is real, my dear Paige," I chuckled, amused, "and I don't need people to believe what they hear. If anything, I doubt that is what you would want... right?"

She stared at me, looking uncomfortable. "W-well...," she hesitated, "I just... I don't know. Let's just... chase after this demon."

She opened the door and climbed into the car. I got into the passenger seat and she started driving. The rest of the drive was silent.

We made it to an old warehouse. I raised an eyebrow and looked at Paige, "what makes you think Rudy would be here?"

"You're the Devil, aren't you? Can't you usually sense Demons or something?" She asked. I stared at her with a flat expression.

Oh did this woman have a lot to learn about Hell.

I stepped out of the car and walked to the warehouse. Paige hurried after me.

She turned on her flashlight and she looked around.

There was a loud clatter and I stopped for a moment. Paige looked at me, "what was that?"

Before I could say anything, Rudy ran at us with an inhuman snarl.

Even in the darkness, I could see that he was possessed. I quickly grabbed Paige and shoved her to the side just as Rudy slammed into me.

I growled as I grabbed him by the neck and slammed him into the wall.

{Paige's POV}— I yelped as I hit the ground, my flashlight clattering against the ground and the worst part was that it slid away from me.

I looked up and widened my eyes as Lucifer slammed Rudy into the wall. I pushed myself to my feet.

"Stay back," Lucifer growled and I froze. I didn't know why but I felt like my entire body was heavy.

My mouth moved but no words came out and for a brief moment, I saw Lucifer's wings.

They were demon-like.

I let out a strangled noise and Rudy fell to the ground, gasping and coughing.

Lucifer looked at me and walked over to me. I flinched back and he stopped and stared at me.

He frowned deeply.

"What...," Rudy coughed and we looked at him. He was rubbing his throat, gasping softly. I could see bruises forming on his neck.

"What did you do to me!?" He gasped. Lucifer narrowed his eyes, "that's not who you truly are, now is it? Come out here... Sabathiel."

I looked at him. Rudy stared at him before he let out a choked grunt and he started convulsing.

I widened my eyes and stood up. "Wh-what's happening?" I asked nervously.

"Possession," Lucifer stated calmly. I looked at him in fear and shock.

"A Fallen Angel that was cast out from Heaven by my-... Michael," he hissed, "Sabathiel works under me."

Then Rudy stopped moving before he chuckled. He lifted his head and I nearly jumped back when they were midnight black.

"Well, well," Sabathiel chuckled as he stood up, rolling his shoulders and I heard the faint sound of bones popping, "I knew you had been on Earth but this is new."

He looked at me and grinned. I narrowed my eyes as I took a step back.

"What a pretty thing," he chuckled. "Careful," Lucifer growled, stepping in front of me and blocking me from the fallen angel's view, "remember your place."

Sabathiel huffed, "yes... my king. But I am not the only one who will start possessing innocent humans. Someone who won't be so obedient."

"Then put that devotion to use and tell us," Lucifer growled. Sabathiel frowned, "forgive me, my king, but I think we'd talk about this... alone."

I blinked and Lucifer glanced at me before he looked back at the fallen angel.

"Go outside," he said. I glared at him, "what!? No way." "This isn't up for discussion," he growled, glaring at me, "go outside. Now."

I stared at him before I hurried outside. I took out my phone and started to call George.

I needed to tell him to bring the others down here.

{Lucifer's POV}— I glared at Sabathiel, "start talking."

"Fallen Angels are talking about the Heavenly Angels hunting down Fallen Angels and Demons," he explained, "there's even talk of Gabriel talking to a mortal."

I narrowed my eyes and growled as I stepped towards him. He stepped back, grimacing.

There was no way that this was happening.

And Gabriel was conversing with a human of all things?!

I growled and slammed my fist against the wall. Sabathiel winced but stayed quiet.

I growled out a sigh and turned away. "...leave this body and go back to Hell. You've certainly been a reliable source of information."

"...yes, my king," Sabathiel replied.

"Oh and Sabathiel," I said, "if you tell the others about Paige...," I glared at him, my eyes glowing red, "I will make sure you end up in one of the lower levels of Hell."

Sabathiel flinched, "y-yes, my king! Understood!"

With that said, he quickly left Rudy's body with a brief red flash.

I huffed as I heard police cars approaching and I walked outside and over to Paige. "Are you hurt?" I asked.

She looked at me, "I... I'm fine."

She looked away but I could tell that she was lying. "Paige!" George and Icelyn ran over to us.

George hugged her and my eyebrow twitched.

"Don't scare me like that! I thought you were hurt!" He exclaimed.

"I'm fine, George," she said with a small reassuring smile. Two policemen dragged an incoherent Rudy out of the warehouse.

I frowned deeply as I walked to the car. As much as I didn't want to, I would have to... have a talk with one of my... 'brothers'.

And I knew just who to call.
