Chapter-3 Pani Puri
Without even me realizing, I started walking towards those amber eyes which reminds me of a Lion. Perfectly toned body with a tiny bun on the top, if not for his dress one could easily mistake him for a king.
The moment our eyes met, I felt myself melting into a puddle of warmth, feeling like I'm finally home.
Should be something to do with me being a temporary human. But that doesn't mean I accept gift from strangers, I hate to owe people something and receiving gifts make me feel like I owe them something.
I already owe those spirits my life since I was born from their sacrifice.
"I'm sorry, I cannot take this," With a stern face, I gave it back to the stranger.
He flinched at my reply but hid it well before he gave me a gentle smile. "I don't mean any harm. I heard that little girl's conversation too. I wanted to help her, what would a man do with anklets," keeping his hands on his pocket he raised his eyebrows waiting for me to understand the rest.
He gave it to me since he heard how I couldn't afford it. I'm not a charity case for God's sake. I don't need an anklet if this is how I'll get one.
"No thankyou stranger," I shoved the anklets back into his hands and started walking. I felt footsteps following me. I know who it is, it's the same stranger with amber eyes.
"Hey, I'm sorry if that came out offensive. I didn't mean it that way," he rubbed his neck looking at me with a frown.
"It's fine," I gave him a gentle smile.
It's strange how I didn't like the thought of this stranger being sad.
"I'm Lucas" he held his hand forward with a huge grin on his face.
"Luna" I chuckled shaking my hands with him.
The moment our hands met, I felt a spark but what stood out the most was his hands, they were dead cold. He is a vampire.
"You are a vampire" I gasped without even I realizing what I have done. "Your hands are cold; you surely can go for Edward Cullen" I laughed it out in panic.
'Dumb move Luna, he would've definitely heard you. Way to start your life as a human,' I cursed internally.
He chuckled making a cross in his chest, "Oh don't worry if I was Edward then, you'd be my Bella all safe with me."
I looked at him with a frown, I couldn't decipher if he is being genuine or sarcastic. For a second, I wished I had my powers but it's not worth sacrificing this heaven – human life.
"So, why are you here?" he asked me as soft as possible looking at me with his eyes full of adoration. I wonder why he looks at me that way, like I'm some precious artifact when in reality I'm just a killing machine.
Deep inside a part of me longed be looked like that. The way Noah looked at Sara, I miss them, I wonder how they are doing. Before I left, Sara's was unconscious, lying in the death bead. But Sandra, the head witch, forced me to go visit the warlock. Now I knew why, to give me back my freedom.
Sara was my only best friend and sister, she's too cursed like me, her curse is different from mine though. She had the true love's curse put on her bloodline; a curse used to protect them in the first place. Sara is a golden wolf, one of the most powerful wolves to ever exist.
I'll visit Sara once these thirty days are over; I know I'm acting selfish but I'm scared of being spotted. I visiting Sara has a probability of people questioning my existence which will lead them to get the idea of who I really am.
"Hey you there?" Lucas called me again bringing me out of my trance.
"Huh?"
"I was asking what's the purpose of your visit to this market?" He smiled again, there wasn't a hint of annoyance in his face or his tone. He waited patiently for me to reply not angered by the fact that I zoned out while talking to him.
Why am I here?
To cross out my bucket list on what to do when I am a human.
"I'm on a thirty-day vacation to cross out my bucket list," I said, it's half true and half lie. I'm not on a vacation.
We kept walking through the market.
"And what are those bucket lists?" he chuckled with a smile. His tone wasn't sarcastic, he really wanted to know more about it.
"Let's just say the place where I am coming from, I don't really get the luxury of enjoying the normal things. So, these thirty days, I want to live a life as normal as I can, doing all the things a normal person do."
I don't know why; I couldn't hold myself from speaking the truth to this stranger. I just hope he is not some evil vampire who's here for my blood. Not that I'm scarred or something. I cannot die, I told you I'm cursed. I cannot die without fulfilling my destiny.
I promised myself that once I enjoy my life as human to the fullest, I'll set out on the journey to kill the vampire king, the reason I was born in the first place.
"I can help you with that," Luke said with a mischievous smirk in his eyes.
I just nick name this stranger, what's wrong with me?
"Why would I trust a stranger?" I kept walking trying to hide my smile from the reaction he gave me when I said those words.
To say he was shocked would be an understatement, it looks like he's never faced rejection in his whole life.
"Trust me Bella, you're all sound and safe with me," he crossed his fingers with a blink.
He just used a twilight reference. Oh God, what have I gotten myself into.
"And why are you here Luke?" I smiled.
Wait, since when did I started speaking freely with strangers?
I guess it's how humans feel – not being afraid to speak with strangers and can life a life of freedom.
Shit, I just gave him a nick name. He clenched his first jaw for a second before he started speaking again.
"Here to eat the best street food in the world."
I looked at him with a confusion, is he really serious?
He turned around as his eyes widened, "Don't tell me you haven't tried it yet?" I shook my head.
"Then you should really try it, it's on me," with that he tilted his forward and started walking towards the street food he was talking about. I followed him wanting to enjoy the normalcy.
For the first time in my life, I feel normal, I feel happy.
"Give us two plates of pani puri," Luke said to the vendor. The vendor nodded as he gave us both a paper bowl before he started filling a round ball shaped thing. Then he dipped it inside a green color liquid and handed over the ball.
"Just eat it like this," he took the whole mini ball in his mouth showing me how to eat.
I did the same and holly molly; it was super delicious. An automatic moan came out of my mouth as I savored the pani puri. The vendor kept one more on our plate as both of us started eating like we are in some eating competition.
"Hmmm... I could eat this whole day," I moaned as I kept on eating.
"I know," Luke chuckled nodding his head.
On around tenth puri, my stomach was full as I actioned the vendor not to give me more. "Why?" Luke frowned at me.
"I'm full," I said licking my lips for the left overs. For a second his pupils dilated looking at my lips before he quickly masked his face with a grin.
"Isn't this amazing?" he asked as we throwed our paper bowls in the dustbin.
"Come, I'll show you something interesting," Before I could turn and pay, he took my hands and started walking. From the way the vendor doesn't stop as, I assume he has already paid.
Again, I felt the sparks and the coldness of his hands. For some strange reason, his coldness felt warmer than a camp fire and I didn't have the will in me to remove his hands from mine.
What have I gotten myself into?
