Chapter-21 First Argument

"Luna," I felt someone waking me up.

When did I sleep?

Wasn't I waiting for Luke? Must have slept waiting.

"I brought you breakfast," I heard Luke whisper. Freshly backed toast hit my nostrils. I slightly shifted in my bed. I am in my bed, tucked inside the blankets safely. I clearly remember waiting in the couch. Luke must have carried me here.

The thought of him being so considerate of me gave butterflies in my stomach. It feels good to be taken care of for one, not to be always cautious waiting for someone to attack you.

Wait, did I sleep the whole night without nightmares? I felt the dreamcatcher in my hand, it should be the reason. Luke was right, I never had the spirits torturing me in my dream, the dream catcher must be really powerful.

"Luna," he whispered again.

Humming, I turned to the stretching my muscles with a yawn. I hissed when a sudden pain hit my body. How did I forget that I have an ankle fracture?

No wonder why I slept like a baby, the painkiller must have done its job. I wonder if this is how humans suffer in their own way, with pain and slow healing.

"Morning," he whispered moving the blanket aside.

"Morning," I mumbled rubbing my eyes.

Luke helped me sit in the bed. Did he see my wounds? Not that it's terrible but when looked closely it does look worse. Aurora brought me home after the doctor gave the clearance. She even got me a waking to stick so that I won't use my left ankle and making it worse.

Even though I refused it, she made me take it saying that's the least she can do. God, that vampire was guilt tripping me with everything she got me. She got me a dress; a soft slipper made for ankle fractures and the walking stick, not to mention she was the one who paid the hospital bill.

The slipper she got me was some special fracture slippers, my left slipper was big enough to hold the cast and the other was the regular size. I'm sure it must have cost a fortune.

"Luna," Luke brought me out my stance.

"Huh?" He gave me a stern look.

"Hey, when did you come back? I thought you would text," his face dropped immediately as I said those words.

"I'm sorry, the situation was a bit serious but I've taken care of it. No worries, I took care of it," he tried to smile only to fail terribly at it. He took a deep breath, "What happened Luna?"

What happened? I should be the one asking it.

"I don't understand? What happened?"

He let out a sarcastic chuckled, he is angry. "You are kidding right? You look like shit Luna, like some truck ran over you," he ran his hands through his hair in frustration, "Who did this to you?"

I shook my head, there is no way I'm telling him about Aurora, "I fell down trying some little stunts due to boredom."

Wow, I'm really terrible at lying.

"Lie," he huffed.

"No, I'm serious, I tried to do high jump and failed to notice the roses. I tried to save myself from the fall, instead I twisted my ankle and fell straight in the thorns," I hope that sounds reasonable.

"Shit Luna I shouldn't have planted those roses there," he groaned.

"No, not in our home. I fell down while exploring the area."

Perfect, this way he won't check the roses in our house and I won't get caught in the lie.

"Did you go the hospital? What did the doctor say? It doesn't matter, we'll go see one after breakfast."

Why is he being so damn over protective?

I'm just a stranger. Maybe, maybe I'm more than a stranger.

"No Luke, I went to a doctor. I'm not talented enough to put such a neat cast in my leg don't you think?" I raised my full frock a bit and showed him my cast.

He looked like he wanted to ask many more questions like he knows I'm lying but didn't bother to ask.

"Here I brought you breakfast, take rest and call me when you need any help. I'll carry you, don't strain your ankle more. It needs rest."

I shook my head; I have a work and I cannot make him babysit me. He has works and it'll be unfair to both of us. I cannot quit the job; I need it for the next 26 days. Luke has already done so much for me; I cannot let him spend more money on me than he is now.

"No, I have to go to work."

He chuckled, "Stop joking Luna."

"I'm serious and I'm perfectly alright. I have a walking stick and I can manage with it, stop worrying too much Lucas," I gave him an assuring smile.

He stood up huffing, "Are you serious?" he shook his read letting out a sight. "Luna, you have a fractured leg and not to mention the deadly scratches all over your body. You need rest and there's no way I'm going to let you work."

I gritted my teeth in anger, he doesn't get to choose what I do.

"Luke, I am alright and I will go to my job." I said sternly hoping he gets the message. But he didn't.

"You are not going to work, that's final."

Is he serious?

He doesn't get to control my life. All my life I've been controlled by spirits for each and every single matter, and when I get my freedom for thirty days, he starts to control it. I'm tired of being told what to do. I am my own person; I can do whatever I want.

"No Luke, I am going to work. That's final, did you hear it, I am going to work." I raised my voice a bit stressing each word a bit longer than it's supposed to.

"No Luna you are not, there is no need for you to work, I can take care of you."

"No, you don't. You don't get to control my life. No one gets to choose what I do. I'm tired of these stuffs, people taking decision on my behalf." Tears threatened to fall from my eyes. Traitor.

"Luna, you need rest," his voice softened a bit at my outburst.

"No Luke, I don't need rest, I'm perfectly fine. I am going to work. Please," I looked at him with pleading eyes. I don't want to argue, I hate fighting. Every conversation I have with those spirits is either an argument or a fight. Irrespective of what, they always win.

"Luna please, I don't want you to over work yourself."

"I don't work in a small bakery, that too as a part timer. I will be alright Luke, chill. And I only have 26 more days, then my life will turn back to the same old repeating nightmare."

"Wait what?"

Oh god, did I say that out loud?

"What were you saying? Same old repeating nightmare?" he sat next to me. "Luna, are you running away from someone? I can protect you, trust me." He brushed my hair.

No, Luke no one can protect me, I am cursed. I wanted to scream and cry at my situation but I don't want to waste my time crying.

I shook my head, "I want to go to work, please." This time I let the tears fall freely. I am indeed cursed, aren't I? With no way back.

He nodded his head but it didn't look like he's fully convinced. "Fine only when I get to drop you there and pick you back up and you'll not walk in our house."

Dropping his fine and I would very much appreciate it but the other it's too much. It's an extra work for him and that also means he'll stay with me leaving all his works.

"Luke, you know that's unfair, you don't have to babysit me."

"You don't have another option. Either you stay here all day or agree to my condition."

God why is this guy so stubborn; he always wins an argument. Argument, this is our first fight like humans. I've crossed another of my bucket list. Controlling my smile, I grumbled a fine to Luke.

"Now let's have breakfast and then you can get ready. I've made us some toast and avocado salad."

A/N: I hate it when they argue...
