Josh took a bit of apple pie on his fork, seeming a bit daunted. All of the food Tyler had brought him so far was fairly simple, just a few ingredients. The pie looked much more elaborate.

With an encouraging nod from Tyler, Josh took his first bite.

An expression of wonder came across his face. "This is amazing!" He quickly took several more bites of the pie.

Tyler laughed and pushed his friend's fork away from the pie with his own. "We're supposed to share that, you know."

Josh smiled sheepishly. "Sorry."

The two boys shared the rest of the apple pie. It was growing darker by the minute; if Tyler had to guess, he'd say it was nearly nine o'clock.

Just then, a small streak of gold made its way up into the sky. Josh dropped his fork and watched in amazement, and Tyler put his fork down too, facing the firework.

Suddenly, it exploded in a bright, loud flash of blue. Josh yelped and scrambled backwards, right into Tyler.

Tyler didn't see stars anymore when he and Josh touched, and he no longer felt dizzy. Likely, there were bruises forming on his body right now, but he was too preoccupied with Josh to care. "It's okay, that's just the firework." Tyler held Josh close for a moment before realizing what he was doing. He let go.

Josh didn't pull away immediately, however. He nestled closer to the other boy, his arms around Tyler's waist. Then he seemed to come to his senses, and he let go, moving away. "Sorry."

A blush crept over Tyler's cheeks. "It's okay."
