Letters

Kirishima took his hand and let him pull him to his feet. They hadn't left the campus since their little trip to the drugstore and had hardly been outside because of their project. A little walk sounded perfect, even if it was only to the nearest letterbox.

Bakugou took Kirishima's hand firmly in his and threw the small bag over his shoulder. Together they went down the stairs, through the common room to the outside.

"Kat?" Kirishima asked when they left campus through the big school gate.

The blonde looked up with a small smile. They had not exchanged a word so far, each lost in his own thoughts. "Yes, Red?"

Kirishima frowned briefly before he began hesitantly. "Do you really think that will work? What if nobody logs in and everyone treats the message like spam?"

Bakugou bit his lower lip. He liked their plan, or at least he couldn't think of a better one, but he also had his doubts. He didn't know how he would have reacted if he had received such a letter. "I think ...," he began slowly, "that we have to count on people's curiosity. As you said, people just have to be given the idea of admitting their love to their soul mate. That doesn't take much. I think that anyone who logs in is curious enough to consider the possibility. The ones who don't ... Well, I guess we can't do anything else for them."

Kirishima smiled slightly. "Let's hope most people at least log in."

Bakugou tightened his grip a little. "We did our best." But deep down, he knew he wouldn't be satisfied if no one actually logged in. Then they would probably have to think of something new.

Silently, they walked down the street. The letterbox was not too far away, but the way seemed longer to Kirishima than usual.

When they finally arrived in front of the inconspicuous box, he breathed deeply once, while Bakugou opened his bag. Kirishima took the first letters and looked at them for a moment.

"Good luck." he whispered as he pushed them through the slot. One by one Bakugou handed him the 38 letters and Kirishima put them in the mailbox, wishing each one luck.

Bakugou smiled at Kirishima's little ritual. "If you do that afterwards on every single email or message, we'll never finish today."

Kirishima laughed when he threw in the last letter. "My aunt always does this with letters, and since I'm a little afraid that all our efforts have been in vain, it seemed appropriate." He looked at the box in which all the letters had disappeared. "But it was a bit relieving, wasn't it? That at least the letters are already on their way?"

Bakugou reached for Kirishima's hand again and squeezed it. "Yes, you're right. And we will send all the other messages today. Then it's just wait and see."

Together they went back to the campus, this time in a quiet conversation. When they arrived at the dorm, they didn't waste any time and went straight back to Bakugou's room. As they had done the last few days, Bakugou sat at his desk and Kirishima on his bed, the laptop on his lap.

Bakugou worked on the e-mails and Kirishima took care of those who were to be contacted via social media sites. Even though it was just copy and paste, it was a lengthy job. The name had to be changed at the top of each message and a new password had to be inserted and checked.

Hours dragged on as they sent one message after another. Bakugou finished his list first and then began to help Kirishima.

Kirishima formed a silent 'Good Luck' with his lips when he finally clicked on the send button of the last message.

He was overcome by a strange feeling. On the one hand he was incredibly relieved that their project was finally finished, on the other hand he felt so helpless because he couldn't do anything anymore. What people made of their messages was entirely up to them.

He looked up and looked into his boyfriend's red eyes. They had exactly the same mixed feelings, but he smiled at Bakugou.

"We did it, Red." whispered the blonde.

Kirishima nodded, closed his laptop and put it aside. A moment of silence followed before Bakugou rose from his seat and crawled to Kirishima on the bed.

The redhead welcomed him with a little kiss, before he put his arms around him. Bakugou sat on his lap and buried his face in Kirishima's neck. He took a deep breath and the familiar scent calmed him down immensely, but his stream of thoughts still continued. In this fast-paced society, the first person had surely already read their messages.  Perhaps some had already become curious and were about to activate their account. Maybe the first ones had already deleted it.

"I would have thought I'd feel better when everything was done," Kirishima murmured, expressing Bakugou's thoughts.

The blonde nodded and tightened his grip. "I hate being helpless."

Kirishima laughed and stroked through the soft blond hair. "You're far from helpless." He looked at the two soot-blackened areas on Bakugou's bed and smiled.

"Tch. That doesn't change the fact that we no longer have any influence on what's happening," the blonde grumbled, staring at Kirishima's closed laptop.

Kirishima followed his gaze and sighed as he grabbed it. While he still had his right arm around his boyfriend, he opened his laptop clumsily with his left hand. Bakugou moved a little onto his lap to better see what Kirishima was doing. The redhead opened their website and entered his own password as administrator.

"Can you already see if someone has logged in?" Bakugou asked curiously.

Kirishima nodded and pointed to the small indicator in the upper right corner. "That's only visible to us administrators." It said: User: 0; Online: 0.

But the moment Bakugou let his shoulders sink, already disappointed, both numbers jumped to '1'.

They looked at each other with wide eyes and a big grin on their faces. Relief spread through them. If one had reacted to their message, others would certainly do the same.

Kirishima put one hand on Bakugou's cheek and gave him a little kiss. "Now we've really done it, Kat."

They spent the evening nestled together on Bakugou bed. They had already put on their pyjamas and were watching a series on Bakugou's laptop, while Kirishima's was sitting next to them with the website open. Again and again they glanced at the numbers in the top corner and with every each new user they looked to each other happily.

At some point, Bakugou's head sank against Kirishima's shoulder, but he didn't notice. He had already fallen asleep himself.
