Chapter 20: The Clock Begins To Tick

"The number you're calling is out of coverage area. Please try your call later. The number you're—" The prerecorded message reached the bottom of Renzo's distressed heart. It was like a password he couldn't decode.

Leuther, where did Buddha put you? Renzo paced back and forth at the company's quarters. He dialed his brother's number several times more, but the operator's response stayed the same. The apprehension exponentiated with his every step.

Like throwing daggers, Sabrina stared at the man who was constantly blocking the office light, casting a slender shadow to the mountains of reports on her desk. Annoyance grew in her with Renzo's every step. The man was interrupting her work. If she had not seen Renzo without his glasses on, she could have believed that her so-called boss was doing it on purpose. She might be new at the company, but Mrs. Zhang had told her everything about this ambitious inventor. If Renzo appeared without glasses, he was in his worst emotional state. But who cares? How could she finish her task if the sound of Renzo's footsteps kept on bugging her like the imaginary Oreo cookies floating in her mind?

Her calm gaze stabbed Renzo. I hope the sun will fry your bird-nest hair. I hope the freckles on your cheeks will turn to apples. I hope the bags under your eyes will grow babies. I hope—

"Sabrina, do you have Xander's number?" Renzo stared at her with tired eyes.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Collins, but my brother has no phone." Sabrina politely smiled. Renzo had no idea that Sabrina's inner goddess was insulting her. You're as fake as your earrings made of fool's gold. She frowned and touched her ears. Shut up, or you can't have your Oreo cookies tonight. The voice in her head quieted.

Renzo took a deep breath and nodded. How can I forget that? He kept on looking at his phone, expecting for a call at any second.

After a few minutes, the entrance door swung open with Ythan and Zach rushing inside.

Sabrina's forehead creased forming several lines. "Didi, what are you doing here?"

"Jiejie!" Zach let go of Ythan's jacket and hugged his sister. "Gege and Leuther gē are missing."

"Leuther?" The name sounds familiar, Sabrina mused as Zach nodded.

Ythan gave Renzo the paper with the black scorpion image.

"He didn't leave any note as to where they will go?" Renzo asked The Young Master.

Ythan shook his head.

"Techne can't trace his location through GPS. Where did Xander bring him?" Renzo looked at Zach who was biting his fingers.

Ythan had given Renzo all the details he knew about the scenario. As soon as the Principal handed him the paper which Leuther left, he immediately reviewed the school's CCTV camera. Aside from Xander carrying Leuther to the junkyard, he also saw Ming taken by two masked men who followed Xander's path. The two other persons found in the comfort room had been taken to the hospital, still unconscious.

"Excuse me? Why is my brother involved here?" Sabrina's tone of voice deviated from her normal one.

Sensing his sister's confusion, Zach told Sabrina everything he knew from Ythan's explanation.

"Eh? That's it?" Sabrina raised her eyebrow. She rolled her eyes and went back on her desk to continue her job.

Renzo and Ythan were baffled with her reaction.

"Don't worry. I know my brother very well. He might look dumb, but he's smart enough to know that he can't kidnap other people." Using a calculator, she tallied the total number of students who received the watch. "By the looks of it, if they are not in the hospital, they might be at our orphanage or at Leuther's home, tending this man's injuries."

"Jiejie is right. I'm just afraid that gege might encounter trouble along the way." Zach shook his head.

"Pfft. Xander? Trouble along the way? He's already a walking disaster. I'm afraid no other kinds of trouble can surpass him." Sabrina encircled the number '50' on the paper.

Renzo and Ythan nodded at each other. Renzo scrambled to his computer and searched the databank of all hospitals in the city. He hoped to catch a glimpse of either his brother or Xander's name in the list of patients. Ythan, on the other hand, called every number that could reach Leuther. After futile attempts, he proceeded in contacting his network at the 'underground' to search for his childhood friend.

Seeing others being busy as a bee, Sabrina waved for Zach to sit in front of her table. "So, are you and this guy a thing?"

"Huh? I don't understand," Zach replied with a voice of a mosquito.

Sabrina rolled her eyes. "That vampire guy who has been with you now. And you know, a thing, like this." She formed the 'Number 1' with her hands and brought them together.

"Jiejie, don't be like that. I'm still worried about gege." Zach slumped his shoulders.

"Hey! Hey!" Sabrina lifted her brother's chin and looked straight into his eyes. "Do you really believe gege can't handle himself?"

Zach looked like a depressed mushroom. "I believe in him but... it feels weird without him around."

"Nah! I bet he's at the school dormitory looking for you right now."

Zach gasped. "You're right. I must go back. I must not make gege worry about me." He stood up but was pulled back again by his sister.

"Wait. Wait. You didn't answer me. So, you're now a thing, right?" Sabrina wiggled her eyebrows. "If not, then why are you both together going here?"

"No." Zach shook his head. "Ythan needed help to find his fiancé. I want to find—"

"What fiancé?" Sabrina's eyes widened.

"Ythan and Leuther will be married soon."

"I don't buy that." Sabrina looked at Ythan who was also looking at her. She nervously smiled and positioned herself to hide from the man's sight. "Ythan is surely hitting on you," she whispered.

"Don't be like that. I just look at him as... my master. Besides... he is a... man," Zach's voice became softer in each word.

At the word 'master', Sabrina's inner goddess voiced out, Your little brother is kinky. Teach him a lesson.

Sabrina held her brother's hands. "Didi, I watched you grow up with my own two eyes." She pursed her lips. "I know that this isn't the right time to get sentimental, but all I want to say is," she ruffled Zach's hair, looking at him thoughtfully, eyes sparkling with tenderness,"Jiejie—" choking on a sob, she paused, unable to speak as the waves of emotions came crashing down on her. A few seconds later, she whispered, "Jiejie will always be here for whomever you become. No matter what. Always."

Zach felt butterflies in his heart. They were joyfully fluttering like the body part used to pump blood was transformed into a beautiful garden full of Daisies, Roses, and Chrysanthemums. He always knew that Sabrina would be accepting, but hearing it straight from his sister's mouth was something he would never get used to.

"So answer my question, demmit!" Sabrina hurried her words as if her break time was near over.

Zach's heart turned into garbage, butterflies replaced with flies.

"What I said is true. He just took me as his apprentice." His eyelids drooped.

Sabrina huffed. "As you say so." She rolled her eyes to the point that they hurt. "Oh, by the way"—she opened a drawer and took a box wrapped with colorful sticky notes—"bring this home." She gave it to her little brother, making sure no one noticed.

"What's this?" Zach asked.

"Shhh! Don't tell others. It's the newest model of watch that Collins Technologies is yet to release in the market. This is what I promised to give Yin on his birthday."

"How did you get it?"

"The student who was supposed to get it for free had been a bitch and dropped it. He thought it was broken so he gave it to me instead. I think it's still functioning since it beeped." She eyed Zach. "You can actually try to wear it first and test if it works. The watch comes with many new features as stated in the manual. Yin will be very glad." She smiled at him

"Okay then." Zach put it inside his pocket.

As Renzo grabbed his car keys to hurry toward their house, his phone rang.

"Cào nǐ mā. Where are you?" Renzo's boiling anxiety turned into frustration. "Why did you not call me immediately?"

"I'm sorry, Ahia. My phone ran out of battery," Leuther replied. "I'm at home. Don't worry about me. I'm going back to school."

Renzo swept a gaze at Sabrina and Zach who were looking at him. "Where's Xander?"

"He already went back."

Renzo closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Make sure to drop by at the company first. We will discuss a few things." He hung up.

"Xander is on his way to school." He wore his eyeglasses again.

Zach sighed in relief while Sabrina lifted her butt, carrying a tower of files, and dropped them on Renzo's table.

"Half of my work is done, Mr. Collins. Please try to double check everything. Thank you." She smiled at Renzo. Girl, you better be sincere with your smile this time. He already suffered a lot for today. Her smile became creepily wider. Don't worry, girl. I'll make him a bitterer black coffee tomorrow.

"I have to go now. I-I think we need to postpone today's training, Ythan. I need to check if gege is okay." Zach bowed at Renzo and Ythan, eager to return.

"I'll drive you back to school." Ythan looked at Zach's hair bouncing back to the kitten's head. He nodded at Renzo. "I'll come here later."

Zach was about to protest when Ythan held his hand and walked together out of the office. There was no room for him to argue.

Did you see that? Did you freaking see that, girl? Sabrina walked back to her desk and stared at the clock on her table. It is already 9 PM. You should sleep and let me have my beauty rest. Your voice is annoying. She gazed at Renzo and suddenly thought that he looked more handsome with glasses on.

As soon as Zach arrived at the dormitory after three hours, he found Xander lying in bed, eyes staring at the blank ceiling.

Xander was pulled out of his reverie. "Hey, Didi, where have you been?" Xander raised himself to sit. "I've been looking for you. The principal said that you went out to visit Sabrina?"

"Are you okay?" Keeping himself from breaking down at the sight of his brother, Zach walked toward Xander and touched his gege's forehead with the back of his hand. "You seemed to have a fever."

"I'm okay. I'm just tired."

Zach had a hundred questions lingering in his mind, but seeing how awful his brother looked, he chose to lay them tomorrow. "You must go to sleep, ge. Good night."

"Yeah. I think I should. Good night." Xander kissed his brother's forehead and patted his head.

The moon rose high in the middle of the black canvas filled with glittering stars. Xander couldn't still believe the things that had happened today. They were crazy. He sewed Zach's underwear, almost came at class, fought a bunch of weaklings, saved someone's ass and nearly destroyed it too. Almost.

He was taking a shower when the bitch came over. Based on the flow of their conversation, he knew too well that it would damn happen. He was mentally preparing himself in case Leuther would seduce him again. It was not that he was still in denial about getting a hard-on from a man, but there were a few things he realized.

First, there was no lube. He had searched for it inside the cabinets. He might enjoy wrecking the person who awakened the dormant beast inside, but he damn knew that Leuther would die considering the size of his dick— and of course, due to the wounds Leuther had suffered. He watched too many porn videos to know that he could split the man's insides.

Second and the most important was their difference: Leuther was heaven, and he was hell. He promised that the person who would claim his virginity would be the person to accompany him for a lifetime. Given the gap between him and Leuther, he knew he couldn't sustain the man's needs. He wanted to be the provider, not the one being provided. Men like Leuther could easily trample other man's dignity. Unless the sun rose from the west, unless the crows turned white, he would never let someone crush his pride.

"Leuther, stop whatever you're planning to do. I helped you because you couldn't help yourself. I don't need anything in return." These were the words he had rehearsed in his mind. He spat these out as soon as Leuther's naked body came into view. Determination wearing off with every second, he saw a different glint in Leuther's eyes before the man retreated to the bedroom.

It might have been a wonderful experience if things were different, he thought, absentmindedly looking at Little D snoring in its sleep. He stood from his bed, entered the bathroom, and locked the door.

Zach, with the watch clamping his wrist, shifted on the upper deck as the sound of Xander's rigorous midnight exercise drifted into his pleasant dream about him and Ythan.

A/N:

[1] jiĕjie - Mandarin for older sister. (Apparently, I made a mistake in using 'meimei' when Zach addresses Sabrina. Meimei is used for younger sister. I'll be correcting this mistake in the previous chapters. I am really sorry. I hope you can all forgive me T_T.)

[2] Cào nǐ mā – This roughly translates to 'motherf*cker' in English.
