Chapter 11: Highway To Hell
"Xander, put me down," Zach groggily complained.
Little D barked softly, showing sympathy to his owner. He rode on the same bag that Zach always carried, ready to nibble anyone who would backstab his master. Just like Zach, Little D remained to be small, even after the lapse of two months.
"Yeah, yeah. I'll put you down and let you sleep on the road?" Xander replied.
He remembered one time when he forced Zach to jog with him early in the morning. While on the trail, Zach deceived him by pretending to tie his shoelace, but he crouched down to sleep instead.
"No, I won't. I promise," Zach yawned as he made an oath.
"You should sleep for a while, didi. You still have ten minutes before we arrive at the bus stop."
Xander adjusted Zach's tiny figure on his back. He propped him up so Zach could lean comfortably on his shoulder. He tightly fastened Zach's feet with his wrist, as they encircled his abdomen.
Zach snuggled comfortably on Xander's neck. "Okay. You have to put me down before we reach the main road tho..." He quickly fell asleep.
On the previous day, Zach stayed awake up to three in the morning, busily researching about the male reproductive system. The mystery behind his body's strange reaction on meeting Adonis still haunted him.
"Erection is a state of an enlarged penis..." Zach mumbled on his doze.
What are you dreaming about, didi? Xander snorted.
As they nearly approached the main road, the glowing medallion bathed their ensembles with gentle apricot light. The school uniform they donned was the traditional white jacket, outlined with a blue collar, sleeves, and pipings. As mandated by the Chinese government, the jacket must be paired with blue trousers and sneakers.
It was the first day of class at Qing Hai International School. All senior high school students were required to stay at the school's dormitory for the entire academic year. This would enable them to focus on their education, and prepare them for independent living. Anticipating for the school's tenure policy, Xander was able to squeeze all of his things in one knapsack deliberately. Zach, on the other hand, had compressed the whole orphanage.
Among his clothes and toiletries, Zach brought his favorite pairs of slippers, their family portrait, and twenty-seven textbooks. He also took almost all the stuff toys in his collection namely Spongebob, Unicorn, Hello Kitty, and Tweety Bird. He had planned to bring Snoopy, but he realized that his Little D would undoubtedly object—no one wanted to stay together with a rival. As a result, Xander had to carry two sling bags around his neck, a knapsack on each of his arm, two big duffle bags on each hand, and two warm bodies on his back.
Xander kicked some pebbles as he coursed to the left. From afar, he could already see the contours of the cars streaming by the highway. Xander felt the muscles on his arms and shoulders tensed, as the weight of his luggage took a toll on his body. He felt the energy seeping out from his limbs, so he stopped on his tracks and took a break.
Xander could feel the rising movement of Zach's chest on his back. He was enjoying the sensation of Zach's breath tickling his ears when he heard several feet thundering from the corner he came.
As he turned around, he saw a young man as dazzling as the stars, running with such a pristine elegance. The man was wrapped with a black trench coat, matched with knee-high boots and a sombrero. He squinted as the man's glasses reflected the bright sunrays, blinding him with a beaming white.
When the man's sight caught Xander, he stopped running and trod lightly toward the hercules he had dazed. The corners of his mouth slid upward as he one by one loosened the buttons of his coat, revealing the same uniform Xander wore. Standing in front of his chosen prey by only a meter apart, he slowly removed his glasses and put it inside his pocket.
In the blink of an eye, Leuther veered forward and pressed his sinful lips to Xander's. He draped his trench coat over Zach, covering his whole body, and transferred his sombrero over Xander's head.
Astonished, Xander's eyes bulged. With Zach on his back, and their luggage hanging all over his body, he couldn't do a thing but succumb to this strange feeling.
Leuther deepened the kiss by putting his arms around Xander's neck and pushed his face intimately. As his tongue entered the mouth of the young hercules, tasting its every nook and cranny, Xander felt his knees weakened. Butterflies swarmed not just into his stomach, but also into his heart.
Xander never knew that he was starving until he tasted Leuther.
"Where did the bitch go?" A sturdy man, followed by three more people, appeared from the corner Leuther came.
"Let's split up!" The group of men separated into clusters of two and ran to opposite directions.
As Leuther saw the men passed by them, he retracted his tongue. The seam of saliva hung between their mouths, forming a silver thread which could've mended their broken passion to go beyond lust. He moistened his lips and gazed at Xander with lazy eyes.
Shit! Shit! Shit! Xander couldn't spit any word.
Leuther felt something poking his thigh. He gazed downward and laughed half-heartedly with what he saw.
"Xander?! I'm blind! I'm blind! I can't see anything!" Zach muttered with a pitch as high as Mount Everest.
The men who chased Leuther turned to the source of such scream, and apparently saw Leuther's unobstructed face.
"He's there!" The mafia leader pointed to them. "Don't let him escape, you damn fools!"
Leuther felt irritated and retrieved the coat hanging on Zach's head. He squinted at the bewildered kitten who had just dreamed of himself flying with Alice in Wonderland.
"Mad hatter! Don't hurt Alice!" Zach shrieked as he saw Xander wearing a sombrero.
As Leuther curled his fist, seeing the imminent demise brought by the mafia leader he once tricked, a black Ferrari halted in front of them.
"GET IN THE FUCKING CAR!" Renzo shouted as he rolled the windows down.
"Just in time." Leuther smiled out of relief and dragged Xander and Zach along with him.
Feeling the severity of their current situation, Xander's adrenaline surged, allowing him to hurl their luggage inside the car.
"Meimei?" Zach uttered in confusion as he was thrown in the back seat.
"Hi!" Sabrina tepidly smiled.
"What the fuck are you doing here, Sabrina?!" Xander queried as he slammed the car door.
"I-I'll explain later!" Sabrina struggled with words.
"What a coincidence that you passed by, isn't it, Ythan?" Leuther looked at the man steering the wheels.
"Oh, shut up, Leuther! You can flirt all you want later, but please, spare us this time!" Renzo frantically looked at the side mirror and saw two to three cars on their tail.
"C-can someone tell me what's going on? I think I'm still dreaming." Zach slapped his face and twisted his body toward Xander.
"Gege, bite me!" Zach offered his wrist to Xander.
As Xander was about to taste his brother's wrist, Ythan stepped on the accelerator, tossing all of the passengers' bodies forward.
"Got no chill, bro?" Xander scowled.
Ythan stared at Xander in the rear-view mirror.
"How can we possibly chill if there are still people chasing us?" Sabrina looked back.
"What's your plan, Ythan?" Renzo panicked. "This is your entire fault, Leuther!"
"Why me? I didn't do anything." Leuther raised his brows.
Ythan kept quiet and looked at the cars chasing behind them.
"Leuther, call Harris," Ythan commanded.
"My pleasure." Leuther was inserting his hand to Ythan's pocket when Emperor Marckus crawled out from the sleeve of Ythan's uniform. Its red eyes glared at Leuther, and its sting bobbed up ready to stun.
Leuther immediately retrieved his hand and hissed at Marckus.
"Use your phone. I know you have Harris' number." Ythan swiveled to the right, blocking the nearing car.
"I really can't hide anything from you ah!" Leuther sighed and immediately connected to Harris. He brought the phone over Ythan's chin.
"Meet me at Jinglan Road. I'm using the black Ferrari. I'll be there in five minutes." Ythan disconnected.
"Jinglan? Are you trying to kill us on the road congested with heavy traffic?" Xander hooted.
"Dude, calm your tits. My buddy knows what he's doing," Renzo pacified.
As two cars positioned themselves beside the black Ferrari, Ythan stepped on the brake, and let them accelerate ahead of him.
By Newton's Law of Opposing Forces, Leuther flung to the right, allowing Xander to catch and hug him. Leuther coyly smiled and composed himself back as he held the front-seat tightly.
The tires screeched as Ythan activated the reverse mode and zigzagged its way to the left.
Zach and Sabrina tightly hugged each other as they prayed to Buddha.
The remaining car, where the mafia leader was, caught them and bumped the Ferrari's rear. The car violently shook along the teenagers' bodies. Ythan pushed the gas pedal thrice to gain momentum. At the last minute when the mafia leader was about to shoot the Ferrari's wheels, the car lurched forward, emitting thick black smoke.
"Fuck it!" The leader cursed as the bullet missed its target. "What are you waiting?! Follow them!"
Ythan secured the upper hand, but the unyielding leader continued to chase them closely. Ythan drove at the speed of two-hundred kilometers-per-hour, curling everyone's guts.
In the middle of their precarious sojourn, Zach farted.
"My little D is so scared that he farted ah!" Sweat trickled down Zach's face, as he blamed the poor innocent pup hiding in his bag.
"Your dick wasn't able to poop for several days to smell bad as this?" Leuther's face couldn't be drawn.
Sabrina was on the verge of suffocation. She wanted to roll the windows down, but Xander who was covering his nose stopped her.
After three minutes of hot pursuit, they were able to arrive at Jinglan road. The road was narrow, filled with several craters that imposed difficulty to any drivers passing along it. But with Ythan's experience in racing, the journey is as smooth as walking through a beautiful park.
"Ythan, Mr. Harris is three cars away from us." Renzo looked at Ythan's watch, trying to subside the lingering smell of a rotten egg.
Ythan nodded. He swiveled the car to the left, almost hitting the pedestrian typing on his phone. When another black Ferrari with the same plate number as Ythan's car came to his view, he picked up his speed and overtook it just behind him. He then pushed a peculiar button below the steering wheel, and the car immediately hanged another plate number, covering the previous one.
The mafia leader lost sight of Ythan's ride in the emerging traffic and urged the driver to follow the same path Ythan took. After scanning for a few seconds, the car he thought he was looking reappeared and pivoted to the left road.
"Turn to the left! Turn to the left!" The leader screamed in frustration.
Never did the mafia know that it was Mr. Harris who was leading them toward the unknown.
