Running Offers and Stolen Witches
Elena's P.O.V
Sometimes waking up next to someone who wasn’t bleeding all over your sheets is the best thing in the world. Unless you get extra tempted to bite them. Which I was. Right now.
I quickly jumped up, and forced myself out of the room. It had only been three years sometime at the end of this year, but it was still hard sometimes being around the scent of blood, the thump of someones heart as it worked a little harder to push the blood around his body as he slept. That’s the difficult thing being engaged to a human, even if he is extremely hot. Even harder when I’m trying to pretend to be human too.
Most of my vampire and witch friends always ask me
‘Why are you marrying him if you don’t plan on turning him?’. Well, I don’t remember it, but I had my humanity stolen from me, and although I love my vampire life, I wish I could at least remember being human. I get brief flashes but nothing that could remind me of what it felt like to eat normal food and actually need it, what it felt like to not be able to hear two people’s conversation from a mile away, and not be able to see perfectly in the dark, or smell flowers in a field a mile away while I’m sitting in my house.
If I told Alex it would probably shorten my walk to my blood fridge, which I’ve hidden in this secret basement that Alex conveniently doesn’t ‘remember’ where it is. I’ve set it up so it’s my room away from the madness. My room has a lovely red chaise lounge, a matching red couch and armchair, with an antique cherry coffee table, and of course my lovely fridge. It also has a large number of books, and a large music collection. I’ve had the walls sound proofed so anything that went on in here would not be heard by anyone in the rooms above, which could come in handy at a later date.
So I absorbed my breakfast, then got dressed into my running clothes. I’ve got to keep appearances up, haven’t I? I put my iPod on the nifty arm strap I bought, turned on my song of today, Athlete’s Wires, then ran out of the front door.
For some reason, I actually love jogging. I never break a sweat, and my hair stays perfectly in the curled ponytail, but I love being able to exert some speed during the middle of the day in the eyesight of unsuspecting townsfolk. I found it absolutely hilarious that when I jog past Liz Forbes, one of the members of the secret town council that hunt the supernatural, I get this huge adrenaline rush. Which shows that I’m missing my two best friends; Cassie, my hot, lesbian witch friend who is so ditzy sometimes its unbelievable, and Nora, my hot, straight, man-eating, werewolf best friend, who I love to pieces, despite the fact during full moons she’s almost killed me twice. Nora is like the sister I’ve always wanted, you know other than Katherine.
Suddenly, I find myself flying sideways behind some bushes, breaking me out of my silent reverie.
I roll into a crouching position, and snap my head towards the ass who threw me. Sometimes I wonder why things still surprise me. Damon Salvatore was in the same position as me, smirking widely.
“Good morning, Damon.” I smiled.
“What’s with the running stuff?”
“I call it trying to maintain appearances,” I replied, rocking back on my heels, sitting down and lounging. I watched as his eyes assessed me, and stayed staring at my chest. “What did you want anyway, Salvatore?”
“I was bored, then I saw you running past, so decided we should have some fun. Where’s your ball and chain right now?” He asked, moving closer to me.
“Alex will be leaving to go on a business trip right now.” I replied.
“How long will he be gone?”
“What are you getting at, Salvatore?” I raised an eyebrow, and sitting up, getting nearer to Damon’s face. I couldn’t help but look at that curved mouth as it smirked at me. Some weird feeling of familiarity sprung up from within my stomach, and I felt like I wanted to kiss him right then and there, but I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.
“Just answer the question, Gilbert.”
“Hmm…a couple of weeks. He’s going to the office in China, then to New York so he’ll probably be gone a while. Why do you ask?”
“I was talking with Stefan, Jeremy, Caroline and Rose, and we decided we’d make the next month ‘Operation Amnesia’. We’re getting you to remember who you were, because we all miss the innocent, brave Elena. You’re this extra hot, bitchy, psychopath now.”
“Hmm…and you’re complaining? You do realise that Alex is going to be gone, right? And with these vampire hormones I’m always horny, and I’ll be all alone in my new house in this town that I can’t remember,” I teased him, crawling over to him and pressing my lips against his cheek. He flipped me onto my back, pinning my arms above my head and attacking my mouth with his. Rolling over so we’d switched positions, I pulled my lips away from his, and rested my hands on his chest and just straddled him.
“I think I might give you you’re little experiment, but on one condition.” I said, a plan forming in my head.
“What’s that?” He asked, breathless.
“You get me the moonstone. I know that you have it, Damon, and I need it.”
“What makes you think I have it?” He said, pulling me down and sucking on the skin at my neck. Man this guy didn’t quit.
“Because I have a friend who has handled it before, and located it for me. You don’t need the details, sweetie, but I know it’s in the Salvatore Boarding House. And one way or another, I’ll get it. If it means, I have to seduce you, or kill someone you love, I’ll get it. And then I’ll move away again, so you’ll never have to see me again. How’s that sound?”
“Wow. Katherine really did spend a lot of time converting you, didn’t she? She should have told you that messing with me…is a bad move. No one threatens the people the old Elena cares about, not even the new Elena. You want the moonstone? Then keep on wanting.” He said, tossing me backwards, and disappearing.
I landed on my feet, and I brushed myself off. This was going to be enough fun to entertain me until my fiancé came back.

Stefan’s P.O.V
Damon stormed in, with grass all over his dark clothes and his best scowl on his face. As usual, he went right to the parlour and poured himself a drink before sitting down next to me and Rose on the couch.
“So?” Rose asked.
“What did she say about the plan?” Jeremy questioned, sitting on the couch opposite with Caroline and Tyler.
“She wants the Moonstone. She’s going to do anything and everything she can to get it.” Damon replied, his frown becoming even more pronounced.
“What did she say?” I asked.
“Look, I think that we should all just accept that Elena Gilbert is gone for good, and Katherine Pierce Mark Two is here to stay. Then we can all get on with our lives.” Damon snapped, gulping his drink down, then walking out the room, running up the stairs.
Everyone was silent, until the front door slammed shut. Confused, I climbed to my feet, and hesitantly walked out into the hallway.
For someone with amnesia, she sure knew her way around town.
“Morning, Stefan. Is your brother sulking in his room, because his plaything is biting back?" Elena greeted me, smirking as she saw Damon appear behind me. “You really ought to watch your back, Salvatore. You never know who’s following you.”
“What do you want?” Damon barked.
“I’ll give you my Christmas list, shall I? The Moonstone for starters, then for you to get back to your lives like I was never here.”
“Why should we hand the Moonstone over, Elena?” I questioned, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Because, dear Stefan, in order to protect my family I need to destroy that stone, which means I have to get it first, which is where you lovely boys come in,” Elena said, as she walked around the hallway looking up and around at everything, laying her eyes on the two of us on occasion, before brushing past us, and into the living room. We followed her, and watched as she sauntered over to the fireplace, picking up a picture of me and her two years ago.
“I didn’t know we were having a party. My invite must’ve got lost in the mail.”
“Why won’t you let us help you?" Jeremy asked.
“I’m not a weak, little girl, Jeremy. I do things my own way, and the only reason I’m still here is to get to know my niece, and to get the Moonstone,” Elena said, pursing her lips as she stared at the picture. “I have to say, Stefan, we were a very cute couple. Why did we break up?”
“You loved me and Damon. I made your choice for you.”
“Aah. So you sacrificed your own happiness for your brother’s? What about my happiness? You knew what Damon was like, why risk it?”
“You seemed to be in love with him more than you were with me. I didn’t want you making a wrong decision.”
“So I’m sensing you made the wrong decision for me. I’ll bet for the past three years you’ve been kicking yourself. I’d bet I wouldn’t be a vampire right now if you’d let me choose you,” Elena said, placing the photo back down, and walking round the couch to pour herself a drink from Damon’s best bourbon. She raised the glass, and tipped it straight back. “So, Stefan, I guess I have you to thank.”
“For what?”
“For ripping my humanity from me. I’ve been told how there’s this vampire out there, who used to be as bad as they could get, but then brought himself back and decided to play human with a girl. I’ve spent the past three years taking human lives and not really caring about it. That’s all I knew, all I remembered. And now I have the man who started the chain of events that led to me becoming a monster standing right in front of me,” Elena laughed. “And surprisingly, I don’t actually want to kill you.”
“It wasn’t my fault. We don’t even know what happened that night.”
“Shall I tell you? Katherine found me, as you know, but there was some kid…I can’t remember his name. I just remember his face from flashbacks I have. He shot me twice. Once in the stomach, and again in the head. I woke up with leaves in my hair, my clothes all ripped and torn, and blood everywhere. Some lovely old man was kneeling beside me, and I felt hunger. A hunger I’d never felt before, and I could feel my body tense up and I pounced on him. I ripped my way through the flesh on his neck until I found a vein, and drank until I’d drained every single drop of blood from his body,” Elena recounted her story, pouring herself another glass, and gulping it down. Her eyes weren’t focused on everything, but I could see the ghost of the story as she was sucked into it.
“Katherine, Isobel, and...my friend found me, and in that same night, I had caused terror in a small town outside of Carolina. The newspapers were convinced it was a stray pack of rabid wolves that had killed those 27 people in one night. I can still here those screams of men, women and teenagers. Yet I don’t regret them. I see their faces, but it isn’t tainted with guilt. The only thing that makes me bad about what I am is my fiancé. The fact I have to keep what I am secret. I don’t even love him. He’s a cover. Something I use to hide myself. No one points a finger at the shy, beautiful fiancée of the C.E.O of a large company.”
“If he’s just a cover, why not break it off with him now?” Rose asked. I could see that Elena’s story disturbed her. She was remembering her own first night as a vampire, when she tried attacking Elena. I remember being very scared that we weren’t going to find Rose before she hurt someone, then I went back to Elena’s bedroom to make sure she wasn’t there, and finding Elena gone, I got even more panicked. Rose had been very tame compared to Elena.
“It’s part of Katherine’s school for bitches. Lesson 101, how to use men.” Damon said, snatching the bottle of bourbon away from a scowling Elena.
“Actually, because I’ve grown quite fond of his company. Katherine is in London, Isobel is in Milan, and...my friend…is somewhere.”
“You keep saying ‘my friend’. Who is this friend?” Tyler piped up.
Elena smiled at him.
“How’s it going, wolfie? I have a friend who’s a werewolf. She’s really hot. You’d like her.” Elena waggled her eyebrows, trying to change the subject.
“Who’s your friend, Elena?” I asked.
“Her name is Nora, and Tyler, she is wild! And I don't mean werewolf wild, I mean, lost weekend wild.”
“The other friend!” Caroline snapped. We had all been noticing that recently Caroline and Tyler were getting even closer. No surprise that she’s jealous at even the mention of another woman and Tyler together.
“Elijah.” Was her one worded answer.
The iconic cartoon light-bulb might as well have popped up over everyone’s heads. Elena sat down on the coffee table, looking incredibly confused.
“Can’t original vampires compel other vampires?” Caroline questioned.
“Yeah, and that’s why Elena can’t remember anything. Elijah compelled her not to.” Damon smirked.
“I don’t think so, Elijah is like my brother. He knows…he wouldn’t. I think it was the bullet to my brain.” Elena said, though her eyes were narrowed, and we could practically hear her doubt.
“You had your memory wiped, so that you could fulfil your apparent destiny of saving the world by sacrificing yourself. They knew that if you remembered us, you would come back here, and we’d try and save you from that.” Rose told her.
Elena jumped to her feet, anger clear on her face.
“You’ve got three days to give me that moonstone. Or you’ll all be very sorry.” Elena threatened.
“What are you going to do? Throw a tantrum? Hit us with your high heels?” Damon taunted her.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” With that she disappeared, and within almost a second, Jeremy’s phone rang. He picked it up instantly, and everything was silent.
“Hello?”
“Mr Gilbert? We have some bad news.” The woman on the other end said.
“What’s going on? Is there something wrong with Bonnie?” It was the hospital apparently. We all sat on the edges of our seats. Everyone in this room could hear the whole conversation without it being on speaker, so we all gasped when the woman spoke again.
“That’s just it, Mr Gilbert. Miss Bennett is gone. A nurse went in there a few minutes ago, and all of her machines were taken too. Someone’s taken her. The police are here, and want you to come in for a routine questioning.”
“I’ll be right there.”
My phone went off, as soon as Jeremy hung up the phone, and I opened the new text message.
