🌓 Chapter 20: Pain 🌗
~~~~~~~~~Third Person POV~~~~~~~~~
As all the energy pulsed throughout the darkened skies, the group of six could only stare in disbelief at whatever was happening. The month of March was when the snow had almost fully melted, so they didn't have their winter jackets. Now with this sudden cold, they deeply regretted that decision.
Pink lightning stabbed areas around the town, and they didn't miss people. Surprisingly enough, instead of killing them in an instant, they were turned to stone.
Though, maybe that's even worse..
In the far distance, an even darker cloud formed in the sky, laughter faintly heard from beyond.
"So, Wes finally decided to show himself again." Fiona cracked her knuckles, glaring daggers at the seen.
Cassie placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hold on a moment, we can't go there without a plan."
"What plan could work against him?!"
"Distract him." Gabe replied, everyone looking at him in confusion. "I'm gonna need you all to distract him while I get close, that's the plan. Got it?"
Jade looked at her brother in worry. "Gabriel, that's too dangerous! What if he hurts you?!"
"Trust me."
"But-!"
"Jaiden.." He placed a hand on each of her shoulders, his smile confident yet sincere. "Just.. trust me.."
She still wasn't convinced, but if there was anything she knew about him is that he was stubborn. Way too stubborn. So she let out a sigh in defeat. "Okay.. Got it."
With a nod, they all began to make their way to the center of the chaos; all except Lara, who stood in the same spot, eyes wide and a hand placed over her chest as she felt her own rapid heartbeat.
Gabe quickly noticed, walking back to her. "What do you sense this time..?"
"H- ... he's here.."
"Who..?"
"My dad.." She looked up at him, ears flattened back. "Ryan's here.."
He froze at the name, they had all internally agreed to never mention his name again, but he quickly shook off the fear that rose inside. "What can you say about him?"
"It's a weak link, barely any magic.. But he's definitely here.."
"We might have to keep an eye out then.. But we have other matters to attend to."
She nodded, and they both quickly caught up to the others. It wasn't long until they found Wes sitting on a giant boulder, hand raised above all as as he glared at everyone and everything with a wide smirk.
But there was something peculiar about his raised hand..
It was burned..
Nothing too bad, but it was definitely damaged, with bruises and blistered covering it up to his elbow, but he didn't seem to realize it.
Lara nodded for Gabe to hide as she joined the other four, Wes noticing as they ran over, his smirk only growing. "Well well well, looks like the guests have all arrived~!"
"Things don't have to be with way, Wes!!" Jade called out, still trying to resolve this without any bloodshed.
But he simply laughed, as if mocking her words. However, when he looked down to reply, his eyes quickly scanned the area. "Wait a minute, we're missing the guest of honor! Where's little Gabriel~?"
None of them replied, making Wes's confidence only boost up even more. "Not saying, eh? Well.." Lightning swirled around his fingers. "That can be easily changed~.."
And thus, the final war began. Somehow, Wes had become even more powerful than their last battle, single-handedly beating anyone and everyone who tried to fight against him. The floor became a pool of blood and destruction, statues of the innocent covering the streets.
But as quietly as he cold, Gabe formed a sword in his, prepared to give what he hoped would be the final blow.
With a running start, he raised his sword, took a leap, and swung...
...
Only to be blocked off by another, Wes's power-hungry eyes meeting Gabe's wide ones.
"Found you~.."
Wes pushed him back with the sword, landing a harsh kick against the other boy's chest, sending him crashing onto the ground with a loud thud, the air being knocked out of his lungs.
He was about to stab Gabe's chest, but he was able to quickly avoid the sword, managing to grab his own once more.
But a chuckle escaped Wes's lips, making Gabe's glare only sharpen. "You know, I really gotta hand it to you, Gabriel. You're awfully persistent. Definitely something you got from your parents."
"What do you know about my parents?"
"Just that they stayed together even to the border of death. Oh! Don't be surprised if you find two broken statues in your home."
His eyes grew wide, hands trembling as he gripped his sword. "Y- you didn't.."
"Well I couldn't have done all this with the children of an all-powerful demon still alive, they could've easily made me disappear! I had to get read of them immediately! Of course, your dad and aunt weren't too pleased about it, so I had to take care of them, and the little pests you call siblings too~..
"You're lying!!"
"Then why don't you go see for yourself~..?" He gestured at the forest, which seemed to be completely burned and destroyed.
Gabe's mind became foggy, a pain growing in his chest, so horrible that he could barely stand. Worse than any stab, or shot, or poison. Tears quickly blurred his vision, baring his fangs at the man who ruined his life.
"You... b-bastard..."
"Hm?"
There was a change in the air, one that even confused Wes. Gabriel had a tight grip on the sword, blood slowly trickling down his wrist, his body trembling as he held in his sobs, and a yellow glow pulsing all around him.
When he finally looked up, his eyes were a bright yellow, black thin slits in between, his fangs longer than before. "YOU FUCKING BASTARD!!! I SWEAR ON MY LIFE THAT I WILL MAKE YOU PAY FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE,
EVEN IF IT'S THE LAST THING I EVER DO!!!"
Thanks for reading!!! 'Till next time!!!
❤️❤️❤️
