The next day, I didn't have work or school, I was able to wake up when I felt like it (which was usually around 9-10AM).

I got dressed and went downstairs to make breakfast as usual. Getting some of the ingredients and materials I needed, I placed them all on the counter.

My mind soon went to the nightmare I had, the same one I have every night. My parents. The last time I saw them, alive. I lost conscious of my surroundings, focusing on the nightmares, yet I continued to cook.

I guess I did it so often that it was just an instinct of mine.

The more time passed, the more I went into my nightmare, and the more I lost sight of what was around me, all of my guards completely down.

That is, until I heard something hit the window in front of me.

I let out a scream as I fell onto my back with a thud. "Ow..."

I opened my eyes to see a small fox at the window, its paws placed against it. It was normal to see foxes here, but they're usually not close to homes, so I was a bit surprised.

"Um... h-hello..."

I heard it let out a small bark. I didn't know foxes could bark, to be honest. It pawed at the window, slightly scratching it before barking softly.

I looked around, it was understandable it wanted to enter since the whole counter had food.

Nervously, I walked over to the window, opening it. It looked at me with curious eyes, cautiously walking inside. Curiously sniffing my hand, it soon let out another bark.

"You uh, want some food...?"

It barked again, slightly wagging its tail. I went over to the kitchen, taking out a leftover chicken leg. Foxes like chicken, right? I placed the leg in front of it, and it didn't hesitate to eat in a few seconds!

Holy hell!

I stared at the little fox in shock as it looked back at me, joyfully wagging its tail. I guess foxes do like chicken. I nervously offered my hand, and to my surprise, it snuggled against my hand, making me let out a soft chuckle.

Soon after, I heard a small shriek, a small hawk landing on the windowsill. I was a bit startled, don't hawks eat foxes?!? To more of my surprise, neither seemed to really care about the other. The hawk tapped the chicken bone before shrieking softly. I walked over to get another, placing it on the counter.

Apparently every creature likes chicken.

I heard a soft gasp from behind, both the fox and the hawk perked up. Alyse was now standing a few feet behind me, looking at the animals with excitement.

"Where'd they come from...?!?" She whispered, though clearly happy.

I looked back at the animals. "I don't really know, they just appeared by the window. They wanted food so I let them in." I whispered back to her.

Alyse cautiously made her way to the animals, I tried to stop her, but she had already offered her hand to them. The fox sniffed it, soon snuggling against her hand, making Alyse giggle. "They're adorable!"

She gently pet the fox's head who... purred? Okay, now I'm not fully convinced this is actually a fox.

Alyse turned to face me. "Can we keep'm?!?"

"Uh, I dunno, Alicia..." I rubbed the back of my neck, we didn't exactly have the time for pets. Me and Iv would always be out of the house for school or work, and Alyse had her daily art classes.

"Pretty please?!? I promise to take good care of them!!!" She begged, giving me her unavoidable puppy eyes.

I tried to look away, so I looked at the animals who-... were also giving me puppy eyes!!!

I waited a few seconds before letting out a sigh of defeat. "Alright, I guess we can keep them..."

Alyse cheered happily, gently picking up the fox in her arms as it let out a soft squeak, Alyse smiling brightly.

What have I gotten myself into...?
