Chapter 16
Audacity

[NIGHT BEFORE];

White had known what had happened, but she didn't think it would be possible. All of them at once. In one hit. Her, Blue, and Yellow had been poofed and luckily not shattered. She held a black nailed hand to her head only for her diamond eyes to widen in shock.

Her gem.

White began to tremble and panicked when the diamond that once shone bright on her forehead was not there.

"M-m-my diamond. Where is my diamond?!"

An amused chuckle made White snap her head in that direction. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary though White had noticed the room is a cell that kept gems inside. There at the entrance stood the same figure who ambushed her and- "Blue! Yellow!" She glares and immediately marches over to the glowing entrance.

"I wouldn't touch the force field. Especially in your condition. I don't want you to disappear just yet." The figure leans against the wall outside of the cell and leans forward to mock the diamond inside. "Though, go right ahead. Your matter will just disperse back into space." Their fingers flutter and they hold back a laugh. "Gems are so much more fragile than they seem."

White scoffs through her nose and her eyes avoid the being in front of her. "Where are Blue and Yellow?"

"Don't worry about that, MY Diamond." They mocked the title.

"You dare threaten the Diamond Authority and all of gem kind. By what audacity do you have to do such a thing?!" White shouts in anger and that didn't even make the other being flinch.

With a small sneer, they slowly hold back a chuckle. "I should be telling you that. Maybe I should refresh your memory?" Their hands toss their hood down to their shoulders. A sharp gasp comes from the Diamond.

"No." White immediately steps back and hits the wall. "No... this isn't real...this is a silly and cruel joke that other gems are pulling, right?"

They tsked, "You knew that one day after all these thousands of years your past will come back to haunt you. It took awhile, but I was able to plan it all just perfectly." Their hand taps at the gem strapped to their side as three bubbled crystals were brought up. A yellow, blue, and white diamond. "All I need is one last diamond and I can throw my plan into action. Ridding all of the gem infestation throughout the universe, including that thing buried in the Earth."

White stares in horror, still trying to wrap her thoughts about all of this and watches them turn away.

"You took my everything, so I'm going to take EVERYTHING from you."

At those words, they leave and White is still wide eyed as a distant memory echoes.

Something shattering and the pieces falling to the ground. Each shard landing with a sound like a wind chime. "What have I done?" White whispers in guilt and heartbreak. She didn't mean to, but she did.

Her black nailed hand moves to run hand through her- "?!" White grew panicked. "I'm...." Without her gem, she was more human. That left her unable to use any abilities, including reforming. That meant she could get hurt very badly, even die.

"Steven. They're going after Steven!" For the first time in a rare while. White felt helpless and useless. 'Had I not done the same? It's all my fault.' A teardrop fell onto the cold metal floor.

《NEXT CHAPTER PREVIEW》

"SPINEL!" You shout out.

The high altitude wind made the raspberry colored pigtails slap against her face. Down below, a few stories down was the slightly busy streets and there was no telling how high the gem dangled.

"Rrragh!"

Her muscles weren't very strong and at the last attempt to pull up, she lost her footing and gasped when one of her hands slipped as well.

"Come--ON!"

Spinel grew frustrated. Her abilities weren't working and she felt helpless. She had no idea what happened, but one thing's for sure, Spinel wasn't going to give up- "Do something!" She comically yelled at her body.

Suddenly, her grip slipped when the fight above made the building shake. "AHHH-AUGH!" Spinel shouts in pain. Slowly, her magenta eyes caught sight of something slowly running down her arm where a piece of metal cut her pink skin.

The black liquid fluttered like stardust.

"B-blood?"

Usually, humans bled red, but in Spinel's case? How was it possible?

"Well, ain't that a twist." Spinel gulps and immediately she felt her breath catch in her throat. The last of her strength had vanished and so had her grip on the side of the building. Spinel's body went ice cold at the thought of falling and not able to catch herself or even survive a fall.

Fear blanketed the pink hearted gem.

Until....

....a rough landing.....
