Chapter 47
Connor carefully puts Jade's body next to Jasper, stepping away he lets the fairy clean the body. Standing beside Crystal he stares at the bodies in front of them.
"Tell me we did the right thing" Connor asks his mate who sighs grabbing his hand and putting her head on his chest.
"This is the best we could do in the situation we were in" she whispers.
"I had no idea about all this" he points and she rubs his chest to calm him.
"No one is to blame"
"I should not have stayed off guard knowing the danger was still looming I should not have let my guard down"
"Do you want to go check in Chris; he must be awake now" she tries to distract him away from the tragedy in front.
"But..."
"I will stay here; you go check on Chris" she asks making him sigh as he nods and walks away leaving Crystal with the fairies and Jasper along with Jade's body.
*********
"Dad" Chris blinks as he gets up to walk towards his father who smiles as he hugs the boy.
"Are you okay?" he asks and he nods wrapping his arms around Connor and closing his eyes with a big sigh.
"It's okay, dad, it's okay" he whispers as he softly pats on Connor's back with his little hands trying to calm his father.
Connor closes his eyes as he holds his son tightly in his arms trying to let go of the guilt he was feeling and let his son help him calm down.
**********
Chris smiles as he makes his way towards his mother who was going through the bookshelves, he touches the stack of books sitting at the floor before he goes and sits on it watching his mother quietly.
"Want to help mommy a bit?" she asks as she stares at the boy who nods before he steps down and puts his hand out to grab the book but she holds his hand instead stepping down.
"What are these?" he asks as they walk towards the table.
"Mommy needs to read all these" Crystal sighs as she stares at the book.
"Can I bring my drawings here and stay with you?" the boy asks and Crystal smiles ruffling his hair.
"Of course, mommy would love some company" she agrees making him smile and rush out to grab his drawings.
*********
Connor finds both Crystal and his son asleep on the floor, he smiles as he stares at the drawing his son made, kneeling he pulls the color pencil out of Chris's hand as he checks the book in Crystal's hand, slowly pulling it away, he finds it a spell book.
Sitting beside Crystal he continues to read the same book, he pauses as Crystal moves and snuggles to his side before Chris follows clutching the dress of his mother. Shifting them carefully he lets his son and mate sleep peacefully as he watches over them.
Turning the page of the book, Connor continues to read the book as he runs his hand through Crystal's hair, he smiles when he hears her mumble few of the words.
Connor stops reading before he eyes the window and watches the fairies flying in, he puts a finger on top of his lips signaling them to stay quiet as he points at his mate and son.
"The body has been healed" the fairy flies and whispers near Connor's ear.
"Thank you" he mouths.
"Mother Fairy would like to talk with you two though" she informs and Connor nods as he glances at his mate.
"Now?" he asks and they shake their head no.
"Whenever you want" she informs before they all fly away leaving the family alone.
*********
"The bodies are healed" the mother fairy informs as Connor and Crystal walks following the fairy.
"Thank you" Crystal smiles as she holds Connor's hand and squeezes it in happiness.
"When you brought in the bodies, I was wary, wondering if our nature would allow it but it seems they have accepted it and the bodies have accepted us" the fairy points before she turns to face the couple.
"However, there is no longer balance in our world" she points making the couple frown.
"Balance?" Crystal questions.
"Yes, we welcomed you two in our world for the safety of you along with your unborn child. The two bodies and the soul you brought in our world were not the part of the deal or our plan and it seems somehow it is affecting our world" she sighs making Crystal worry as she stares at Connor.
"I have yet to find the spell to put the soul back in the bodies and..." Crystal stops as the fairy raises her hand in stop sign.
"The spell you are searching will not work as the bodies you brought in are of soulmates, for them to awake they need to rejoin together. The plants healing and keep them from decaying have intertwined their hands, you cannot revive one without the other, Crystal...
My dear, you need to bring back the soul of the woman for them to revive" the fairy informs.
"But we do not know how to bring it back, the soul has been locked in a place we are to never enter" Connor points making the fairy think.
"Let's keep hope that one day the soul will be able to free itself, until then we will do everything, we can to protect those two" the fairy promises.
"But you said something about not having balance" Connor points and the fairy smiles.
"I am not kicking you out, you are always welcome but to keep their bodies alive in our world, you two have to be away from here" the fairy points.
"Oh" Crystal whispers.
"The door of this place shall always be open for you, always remember that" the fairy smiles before she vanishes and Crystal sighs as she turns to face her mate.
"Why do I always get kicked out of the place I feel at ease?" Connor frowns making Crystal laugh aloud.
"Connie" she giggles.
"Cannot get too comfy, can I?" he shrugs his shoulder and Crystal wraps her arms around him to console him.
"You will always have home with me" she assures and he smiles before the couple stares at the flowers blooming.
*********
Stepping out of the portal Crystal along with Connor and Chris turns back waving at the fairies who were waving back as the portal slowly closes and disappears.
"Are we here to save more of dad's friend, again?" Chris asks as he stares at Crystal who smiles as she runs her hand over his hair.
"No, we are actually coming back home" Crystal informs making the boy frown.
"Home? But we just left it" he points before Connor picks the boy in his arm.
"There, that's our home. Think of the fairy world as a mini vacation, also you can never tell anyone about that place or the fairies, most definitely not about the night we saved our friend" he points at the boy who glances at his mother.
"Can it be our little family secret?" Crystal asks the boy who smiles before nodding.
"Come on, let's get home before everyone barges in" Crystal ruffles Chris's hair who laughs as they all walk towards their home.
*********
Leaving a sleepy Chris in his room, Connor informs Crystal about his plan as he leaves his house. Making his way towards his first place of visit, Connor jumps off the tree as he stands to watch what was left of Summer's pack.
"Connor?" Warren's voice makes him turn to find few of the warriors around the place.
"Warren" he nods before he eyes the men with Warren.
"I guess you got the news about the pack" Warren points and Connor nods his head.
"Such a shame that we could not get here soon and what a terrible night for our kind" Warren sighs as he stands beside Connor.
"Are you here to guard the grounds?" Connor asks and Warren nods.
"Yeah, in case we get someone"
"Someone?" Connor frowns.
"Only Jasmine survived this chaotic night, Adrian believes maybe some pack members ran off or are hiding and in case they come back we will bring them back to our pack"
"Jasmine"
"Yeah, Jasper and Jade's kid. One brave soul, thank god Ad found her on time, he brought her to our pack" Warren informs and Connor nods before he takes his leave.
*********
Stepping in the Martin's pack, Connor greets few of the familiar faces before he meets Adrian.
"When did you arrive?" Adrian asks Connor as they meet.
"Few hours"
"How's Cry and Chris?" he asks next as they walk along.
"Good"
"Warren informed you went to the Summer pack" Adrian points out and Connor looks around before he gathers few flowers.
"What happened to the pack, it's..."
"None of us saw it coming. We have given Jade a burial but her mate's body, we did not find, maybe he is alive" Adrian informs as Connor ties the flowers together with the grass.
"That must be for Des, if you wait for few minutes, I will ask Scar to make you a bouquet, you can take one to her" Adrian asks and Connor shakes his head no.
"It's okay, by now Des is used to the one I make" Connor points and Adrian nods before they go to visit Des's grave.
Reaching the grave, Adrian lets Connor have his moment with his sister as the man kneels and touches the grave. Replacing the dried flowers with the fresh one, Connor smiles as he remembers his sister.
"Next time, I will bring your nephew, you have yet to meet him, you know. We named him Chris. He would have loved if you were around and you would definitely be annoyed because he does not talk a lot...
But he would love hearing you talk a mile a minute, listen to your stories, he would even let you boss him around. I will bring him next time with me, so see for yourself" Connor states as he stands up stepping away from his sister's grave.
*********
"She follows Scar, everywhere" Adrian points as they watch Jasmine and Scar digging in the garden.
"How is she?" Connor asks.
"Fine, most of the time, gets spooked and startled if there are strangers, so we have not allowed pack members inside the house. Someone is always there beside her if she is out of the house"
"If it's okay, I would like to take her home with me. Crystal and I, we are back to our home" Connor points and Adrian sighs.
"I understand your concern but I think it will be better if she stays with the pack. She is familiar with Scar and because she is wolf, her life around the pack will give her a sense of home" Adrian clarifies making Connor nod.
"If she feels home in here, then..."
"This is the first place she was brought to after the attack, Connor. Too much change of place and sudden movements may affect her. Some wounds take time to heal but it will. We will look after her." He assures and Connor nods as he watches the girl pat on the soil as she finishes planting the flower and turns to Scar with a smile.
"Thank you" Connor thanks Adrian.
"No need for that, Connor. If the roles were reversed, I know Jade would have done the same for us" Adrian points and Connor nods knowing well how true those words were.
*********
"Thank god it's a boy" Dante sighs in relief as he stares at Chris who hides behind his mother.
"You are scaring him, Dante" Crystal warns the man who grins.
"Well, he should be, father-in-law, can be scary"
"Father-in-law? As if, stop pairing my every child with yours" Crystal scolds her.
"What's wrong, they all should feel blessed to have an angel's blood in their family if my kids get mated to anyone of yours"
"Please, my son is too young to even think about it, do not scare him" she warns pointing a finger at him before she pulls Chris to stand beside her.
"Where is dad?" Chris asks as she glances at his mother.
"He will be back soon, baby. Your uncle Dante looks scary but he is not, why don't you show him your drawings?" she suggests and the boy glances at Dante before he goes to bring his color book.
"Do not speak any ill words or try to say something stupid to Chris, I will go bring some snack" she warns Dante before walking towards kitchen.
"Hey, I only speak wise words" Dante shouts as he watches Crystal walk away before he finds Chris walking out with his book.
**********
Connor steps on the ground, checking the area once he makes his way towards his house only to stop just as something crashes inside of the house, so without a second thought he rushes in.
"Chris, calm down, baby breathe" Crystal pleads to her son as he whimpers and he cannot control his power, making the things fly around the room and crashing it.
"Crystal" Connor asks as he steps in to find everything flying and crashing while Chris was sitting in the corner, scared.
"He won't calm down" Crystal asks and Connor uses his power to stop the things from moving, freezing it in its place.
"What happened?" Connor asks as he slowly makes his way towards his son.
"I don't know, I was just making dinner when I heard his scream and then everything was moving"
"Did someone come for a visit?" Connor asks focusing on his son.
"Dante, but Chris was fine, they even talked for a bit" Crystal points as she watches Connor kneel in front of his son.
"Chris, it's me, can you hear me, focus on my voice" Connor asks as he tries to send calm thoughts to his son.
"You need to stop panicking, Chrissie" Conor asks his mate.
"But..."
"He is reacting to your feelings" he points and Crystal nods as she takes some deep breath trying to think of happy things.
"Mom is alright, she is fine, we all are fine, now slowly move the things back to their places" Connor asks his son who peeks at his father but instead of putting them back he jumps in Connor's arms.
"You are back" he breathes in relief as his powers are all gone.
Connor sighs as he moves the things back on it place before he clears and fixes the damage all while Chris watches. Crystal moves to touch Chris's back and rubs it slowly.
"Are you okay?" she asks her son who nods his head.
"What happened?" Connor asks Chris who shrugs his shoulder as he keeps staring off.
"Did you not like uncle Dante, baby?" Crystal asks as she runs her fingers through his hair.
"He was sad"
"Sad?" Crystal frowns trying to remember if something upset him when he was with them.
"He was sad and then happy"
"You read his emotions and it triggered yours?" Connor tries to understand and Chris shakes his head no.
"He shared a memory before leaving"
"Memory?" Connor frowns.
"She was so small, bleeding, so much blood...everywhere Red, he called her his baby Red. Uncle Dante was hurting and crying so much, said he could not save her, he was late"
"Red?" Crystal frowns.
"It's okay, he is not sad anymore, he is happy, you said he was sad and then happy right?" Connor asks and the boy smile as he nods his head.
"Come on, let's help mom to make dinner" Connor asks as he picks his son up and lets him stand.
"I..." Crystal stops as Connor touches her arm.
"Call him after Chris is asleep, whoever Red was and whatever happened to her, I am sure it's enough to trigger your emotions and Chris may feel it" Connor asks and she nods before they got to prepare the dinner.
*********
Crystal walks in the room as she seeks warmth in Connor's arms, he frowns as he hugs her to his and waits for her to calm down.
"I did not know" she whispers making Connor sighs as he kisses on her forehead.
"Know what?"
"Red, baby Red, Dante had a sister, she was killed. She had red hair too, he...why did he never said anything all these years I was there, she is so, so frustrating at times. If it was not for Chris, no one, none of us had known" she cries and Connor rubs her back.
"Not all of us deal with pain same way, baby"
"When he saw Chris, he was just so happy for us. He thought that if his sister was alive, maybe she would have been mated and have had a son too or a daughter and...and..."
"Okay, that's enough, it's okay" he hushes her as she cries and Connor checks on Chris sleeping next door, sending waves of calmness to his sleep would not be disturbed.
"No wonder he has been obsessed with red hair, when I lost mine, he had been so sad and even cried"
"Maybe that is why he wants red-haired kids" Crystal giggles.
"Who would have thought Red hair was Dante's reason of sadness?" Connor sighs.
"Now, it also is the color of his happiness and hope" Crystal points making him nod.
"Hope, we all need that" Connor agrees as they stay in each other's arms.
********
Note: Hope this explains the obsession of Dante and Red hair.
