Chapter 46: A Dark World

(O.D.D.- I added some SOMA music.  It's pretty peaceful to listen to. ( ^ω^ ))

"So, Simon....are you really a robot?"

Cry gazed curiously at the diving suit in front of him.

They were in the game-world of SOMA.

Red eyes flickered on and off for a split second, causing Cry to think that the other just 'blinked'.

"Well....it's kind of hard to explain...."

Simon lifted a metallic hand to rub the back of his helmet.

"It may sound strange to you, but I had a brain scan a few hundred years ago. I found out that my brain scan was used for a new special project to help save humanity....or something."

Simon waved his hand carelessly before sighing, a breath that sounded like grating metal.

"Catherine told me what happened--the world's flooded and there are maniac robot-beasts that are trying to keep real humans alive with machines."

Raven tilted her head--almost childishly--with curiosity.

"Who's Catherine?"

"I'm Catherine."

The disembodied voice came from the top corner of the room, where the group of humans found a small speaker. The female voice spoke up once more.

"Hello to you all of you newcomers. My name is Catherine. I'm in a case similar to Simon, but....my brain scan has been moved to an Omnitool, which Simon takes around with him to the different bases."

Simon nodded in confirmation.

Cry hummed thoughtfully before cringing mentally.

'Aw sh**....we're gonna run into those WAU monster dudes or something...I never liked them...'

The brunet shuddered at the memory of getting killed by one of them multiple times.

Suddenly, the entire place shook violently, causing the group to stumble slightly.

The lights flickered for a while before....

....Turning off completely.

The room was plunged into darkness, causing Mark and Pewds to yelp in shock.

Mark chuckled hysterically.

"Hohohohohoho~noooooooooooo!"

Simon's red 'eyes' darted around the room.

"Catherine!  Do you think you can turn the lights back on?"

"I'll see what I can....no.  Sorry, nothing's working."

Cry sighed and snapped the fingers of his left hand.

Blue sparks of electricity lit up the room they were in.

Pewds collapsed comically on the ground while putting a hand to his chest for dramatization.

"Oh thank God, Cry.  Thanks bro!"

Cry gave a thumbs up and grinned beneath his mask.

Simon looked at Cry; his surprise was shown through his voice.

"You....how did you do that...?"

Cry waved his hands around as Felix got back up onto his feet.

"Maaaa~giiiii~c~!"

Simon seemed unimpressed, but he questioned no further.

BANG, clang, clang, clatter....

Another tremor shook the area.

Russ narrowed his gaze as he glanced around the area.

"Guys....what was that?"

Scott threw his hands up into the air as he also darted his gaze around.

"How the f*** should I know!?"

Cry summoned his Okami sword, causing Simon to yelp in surprise.

"Woah, what the he**!?"

Cry waved his hand carelessly, pouting childishly beneath his mask.

"Don't worry, dude. I'll explain later--I just gotta do stuff with it right now."

The brunet shouldered the blade as he turned his gaze to one of the halls leading out of the room, activating Dark Vision with his Outsider mark.

He saw....two things approaching: a large, floating orb and.....two humans...?

"--I'd say this place 'ought to be labeled as 'freaky as f***in' 'e**' or something.  What do you think, Sam, Ms.?"

"Well...I've seen worse...."

The humans of the current group perked up at the voices.

And Cry........if he had a dog tail......it would've wagged. His Okami sword disappeared as he deactivated Dark Vision.

Two figures entered the room as Cry lit up more blue orbs of electricity.

"CHEYENNE!"

A certain brunette with blonde-dyed bangs widened her eyes with surprise when Cry ran up to her.

"CRY!?"

Cry didn't mind when her glasses dug into his chest; he held her tightly to himself.

"Cheyenne!  Babe!"

"Mmph!?  Mhrmm wrm wah hrm hrumph hm!?"

Cry peered down at her with curious, confused eyes.

"Laddie, I think you're suffocating 'er!"

The brunet looked to the side and blinked.

"Jack?"

A brunet with green-dyed hair waved, a wide grin present on his face as he tipped his hat towards Cry.

"Top of the mornin' to ya' laddie!"

~~

"So......"

Russ had his fingers laced together while he pointed both of his index fingers at Jack and Cheyenne.  His brown eyes shifted to the floating, green eye behind Jacksepticeye.

"How the he** did you guys end up here--same thing as the others?  And what's up with the floating eyeball?"

Chey sighed softly.

"Well....I was texting Cry--wanted to see if he wanted other games for me to bring to his game party." She adjusted her glasses. "And then....."

The brunette frowned and looked over at Cry.

"You texted back and said....'you want to play a game with me?'"

Cry grimaced beneath his mask slightly.

'.....Virus.....'

Chey continued.

"I said....'yea, sure', and then the screen of my phone had some poltergeist sh** going on....and then~I met Jack in this creepy as f*** place."

The brunette gestured towards Jack, who waved cheerfully.

"Jack, your turn."

"Oh!"

The brunet hummed thoughtfully and tapped his chin.

"Weeeeeeeee~ll.....I was stepping into your house, Cry--I found it funny that your door was unlocked--anyways, I let myself in.  No one was around, which I found creepy, but I continued on.  Your cat greeted me with a swipe to my ankles--no bleedin' though!  And then there was a weird blue-ish green-ish flash from your room.  I investigated, thinkin' that you moved the video game playin' to your room, but I....."

Jack frowned and rubbed the back of his head.

"I think some'in took a'hold of me hands and dragged me towards....your computer?"

Jack looked at Cry with helplessness in his eyes.

"I don' understand what's goin' on, Cry.  Fill me in, laddie?"

Cry pointed at the floating eye.

"First, explain....that."

Jack gasped and hugged the giant, green eye to himself and looked at Cry with accusing eyes.

"You don't speak like that around Sammy!  Sam is not a 'that'!  He's a he!"

Cry puffed his cheek out in amusement; Russ seemed to perk up.

"Oh, Cry. I almost forgot..."

A white blur darted out of Russ's pocket and attached itself to Cry's mask; the masked brunet flinched and reached up towards his face.

"Bwah!  What the--!?  Wait, Sup!?"

When Cry had Sup standing in his hands, raised to eye-level, he could see that the Sup Guy was.....crying!?

"Oh no, oh no, no, no, no, no!  Little buddy, don't cry.  Aw, c'mon!  Don't cry, please!?  Uaweh!?"

Sup bonked his head onto Cry's thumb before nuzzling it; his cries died to sniffles.  Russ quirked a small, amused smile to Cry.

"The li'l guy was worried about ya'.  He didn't know if you were coming back or not."

Cry sighed softly and tapped Sup on the head lightly with his left index finger as he held the Sup Guy with his right.

"I'm sorry buddy.  I didn't mean to scare you or anything."

Sup lightly bit onto Cry's thumb in--what was assumed to be--mild anger.  Cry didn't even flinch; it kinda...tickled instead.

Cry chuckled sheepishly.

"Sorry little guy.  Hopefully, it won't happen again."

The Sup Guy huffed and unlatched his tiny teeth from Cry's thumb.

Chey peered over Cry's shoulder and slowly smiled, a snicker emitted from her mouth.

"Is that...what I think it is?"

Sup seemed to brighten up at the sight of Chey and immediately hopped onto her free shoulder.

Raven giggled.

"Looks like the little guys is naturally attached to ya', Chey!"

Chey raised an eyebrow before looking over at Cry with amusement.

"It would seem so."

Cry blushed beneath his mask, rubbing the back of his neck.

The brunet coughed before turning his attention back to Jack.

"So...."

Jack sighed softly before responding.

"I met li'l Sammy in this place.  'e was just....here.  It wasn't like I summoned 'im with a magic circle or somethin'.

Cry nodded in understanding.

'Just like Sup....'

BANG!

The entire room shook, causing everyone to get on edge once more.

Snake activated Peeping Tom and shifted his stance to look over to the left of the group; his eyes darted around the dark hall that was there, wires laid haphazardly about the place.  The brunet pulled out a pistol from the holster that he didn't have when he was turned into a child.

"I-I wouldn't go in that direction."

Snake looked over at Simon, who was rubbing at his wrist nervously.

Red lights looked over at the tall brunet.

"I came from that way thirty minutes ago...running from a...WAU."

Snake raised an eyebrow and looked over at Cry, who made small gestures.

*Pretty much a demented robot.*

Snake sighed through his nose before crossing his arms and looking at Simon.

"Then which way do we go?"

"Ah, about that.  We were about to head down."

"Down?" Pewds echoed, a nervous smile on his lips. "I dunno about you lady, but I thought this place was creepy enough, and you want to go even deeper?  Heeeeeeeee** no."

Catherine gave a rough sigh.

"It is the only way.  Our mission is the ARK, the last hope of humanity."

She hummed thoughtfully.

"And....I don't think we have enough special suits to bring you all down with us.  Why are even here in the first place?  Humans are........hard to come by these days...."

While the LNC and the rest glanced at each other, making 'I dunno' noises, Chey finally spoke up.

"I don't know what the he**'s going on either, but I'd say we shouldn't stay here any longer."

She pointed over to the hall that Snake was previously going to investigate; her mouth was set in a grim line.

Eerie blue lights--not Cry's--drifted towards them.

The sound of creaking metal accompanied the lights as they drew closer.

When the...being came into the light of Cry's magic, the group took a few steps back.

The....robot took lumbering steps towards them. Some sort of sea-anemone was wrapped around the metal arms and legs--like vines.

A WAU.

And boy......that pice of sh** was huge....

Suddenly, the WAU crotched down slightly, preparing to pounce.

With a metallic screech, in darted past Snake and lunged at Cry.

The brunet widened his eyes beneath his mask and darted to the side and charged up his left arm--much to the surprise of Chey and Jack.

Cry slammed his left palm into the WAU's side, causing it to shriek and tumble to the side. The brunet summoned his Okami sword and darted towards the WAU.

The robot regained its footing and screeched at Cry, sharp, metal limbs reaching oht towards him.

Cry, in a blur of red and gold, slashed through the sharp arms as in they were butter.

The brunet jumped into the air, blade raised over his head as he charged it up with electricity and wind.

Cry brought it down and sliced through the WAU.

Two halves of metal fell apart and hit the ground with a 'clang'.

Cry looked over his shoulder at the two halves, making sure they weren't moving anymore before letting his Okami sword disappear.

Russ clapped his hands slowly, lifting an eyebrow.

"Showing off for your girlfriend, Trooper?"

Cry flailed his arms, huffing.

"No! I'm just....defending the group!"

Pewds pointed at Cry, snickering.

"You totally are, man."

Cry glowered slightly at the blonde beneath his mask.

"Shut up, Pie."

Felix merely grinned.

Cry sighed before looking at Chey, who had yet another amused smile on her lips as the brunet approached.

The brunette tiptoed and placed a kiss on Cry's mask.

"My hero."

Cry was lucky for the dim lighting and his mask.

His face....

....Was flushed pure red.

"Hahahahaha--ohmygosh--I, uh, heh--hehehehehahahah~!"

Cry rubbed the back of his head nervously; Ken nudged Mark, a wide smirk on his face, muttering to the ravenet.

"He's totally smitten with her."

Cry whipped his head around and jabbed a finger at Ken.

"I heard that!"

"And does it look like I care~?"

Cry made a frustrated noise that sounded like 'hermafugah'.

Simon would've sweatdropped if he were a human, but he merely sighed to catch everyone's attention.

"Back to the problem at hand.....we don't have enough suits for everyone."

Pewds suddenly made a noise of triumph.

"I can make a magic water bubble!"

It sounded ridiculous....but Cry and the others understood--except Jack and Chey.

"Make a what?"

With that, all of the events had to be explained to the two humans and the floating eyeball.

~~

"This seems a bit dangerous...."

Nevertheless, Pewds was giggling excitedly as he focused his Undertow powers to make bubbles to surround his friends.

Cry placed his hands on the bubble surrounding him, feeling cool water whisper underneath his fingertips.

He glanced at the others.

Raven was bouncing around in hers.

Snake pokes at his bubble.

Jund yawns with boredom, looking at his bubble with lazy eyes.

Red merely had her arms crossed, watching a few fish dart past her bubble.

Cheyenne was smiling with wonder at the sea around her.

Jack, Ken and Mark--although they were in separate bubbles--had similar looks of fear on their faces, creeped out by the murky, black water surrounding them.

Cry looked at the elevator that Simon was currently boarding; the diving suit cast a look towards the group; the brunet smiled and waved at the other.

"We'll be fine, Simon, Cath. Worry more about yourself."

Catherine sighed softly, now plugged into the elevator's system.

"Alright. Simon, strap up. It's gonna be long ride."

Simon did as he was told, fidgeting slightly once he was seated.

Meanwhile, the humans peered over the ginormous cliff edge before them.

Inky blackness was just a couple of meters below them.

Raven gazed down in wonder.

"Wow...."

Scott kept his gaze on the Abyss as he directed his words to Snake.

"Having second thoughts, a**hole?"

Snake raised an eyebrow as he also kept his gaze on the Abyss.

"Not at all."

Pewds was bouncing on the balls of his feet, a wide grin on his face.

"Hehehehe! Yolo, yolo, yolo!"

Chey looked over at Cry, who was standing next to her, jabbing a thumb at Felix.

"Hey, I think your friend is broken."

Cry laughed and waved his hand dismissively.

"He gets like that when sh**s about to go down. How are you holdin' up?"

Chey merely shrugged her shoulders, smiling softly at Cry.

"Honestly, things aren't too bad bad for me. And hey, sh** is certainly going down--I'm pretty hyped. Are you?"

Cry grinned underneath his mask and gave her a two-fingered salute.

"As hyped as I'll ever be."

Russ and Red looked down at the Abyss; the brunet spoke up first.

"Ya' think you could set up some fireballs down there?"

Red sighed softly.

"Fire needs oxygen, Russ. And I wouldn't want to trouble Felix anymore."

"A'ight."

"I can light up everyone's bubbles with electricity!"

Russ glanced over to his left to see Cry.

With a snap of the brunet's fingers, everyone had a single orb of electric blue light in their bubble.

Russ lazily saluted the other.

"Thanks buddy."

Catherine's voice suddenly called out to them.

"We're heading down. The elevator's pretty fast, so try to keep up."

Cry merely waved over at Simon as an acknowledgement.

There was a sound of grinding, squeaking metal before the elevator started to move downwards--slowly at first, but it soon gained speed and rushed downwards.

Cry stood in the middle of the line up of his friends; he glanced both ways as he, smiling beneath his mask.

"Ready guys?"

Scott shrugged.

"Sure."

Russ yawned slightly.

"Whatever."

Red pushed her glasses up.

"Abyss here we come."

Raven grinned widely as she placed her hands onto her hips.

"Let's get this sh** done."

Mark laughed nervously.

"I think I might need a new change of pants after this. Code brown everyone!"

Jack hugged Sam to his chest.

"Let's go! Sammy, give me strength!"

Ken scratched his beard.

"Welp, it's not like I've got anything better to do."

Pewds puffed out his cheeks and crouched down slightly to peer into the Abyss.

"Alright bros. Here we go. You ready, you ready, bros!?"

Cry looked at Chey, who was at his right; Sup was on her left shoulder.

Chey merely smiled at Cry.

"Shall we?"

Cry nodded, making a mock gesture of tipping an imaginary hat towards Chey, pretending to be a gentleman.

"Let's--"

"YOOOOOOOOOOLOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Cry watched with slight bafflement as Pewds jumped first.

The blonde's laughter echoed off the walls of the Abyss as he went down.

Cry and the others watched Felix's light grow smaller by the second.

And then Felix said something else.

"I IMMEDIATELY REGRET MY DECISIOOOOOOOOOOOOON!"

Everyone snickered or laughed.

Cry took a leap.

"Everyone else....JUUUUUUUUUUUUMP!"

Everyone, while in their bubbles, followed Cry's action.

The group leapt into the Abyss.

On the way down, the group managed to catch up with Felix, who was crying comically.

"Why did I ju-ju-u-uuuuump!?"

Cry laughed brightly.

"Aw, c'mon Pie, that was awesome!"

Pewds huffed and crossed his arms, knees tucked to his chest.

"I thought you guys would jump at the same time--WHEN I SAID YOLO!"

Cry laughed even harder.

"Glad you're enjoying yourselves."

Catherine's dry comment came from the side of the group.

Everyone looked and saw that the elevator was going down at the same speed they were.

Simon hesitantly waved at them.

"Hey guys."

Cry waved back--a bit more exuberantly than the other--before spinning around in his bubble to look at the others.

"How's everyone doing!?"

Everyone had a variety of responses.

"I'm good!"

"Alright, I suppose."

"I'mma gonna be sick!"

"Oi, don't throw up, laddie!"

"Holly sh**, I thought I saw a ghost!"

"Hubababa!? Is that a lantern fish!? It's so freaky!"

Cry grinned.

'They're doing great.'

The group continued to go down.

Down into the Abyss.

~~

At some point Ken fell asleep in his bubble.

Scott started to play Doodle Jump on his phone.

Red and Russ simply watched the water around them.

Raven played jan-ken-pon with Snake, who was drifting across from her.

Jack was chatting idly with Pewds and Mark.

Cry simply watched the on goings in silence.

Chey noticed his and called to the other.

"Hey. You're being awfully silent, Cry."

The said brunet sighed and blinked.

"......I'm just....wondering how everyone's gonna get out? If we'll be fine...?"

Chey frowned.

"Cry, this isn't like you."

Cry looked at the stern gaze sent his way with wide eyes.

"Er, what?"

Chey's frown quirked up into a small, fond smile.

"Cry, you always try to look on the bright side of things; you do your best to stay optimistic. And you try your d**n hardest to get a happy ending. I love you for a lot of reasons Cry, and perhaps this is one of them."

Chey watched with amusement as Cry's ears flushed red.

"...Thanks, babe."

Cry smiled beneath his mask.

'Gotta love my buddies.'

Suddenly, something darted in the corner of Cry's eyes; he spun slightly in his bubble and narrowed his gaze.

'What th--?'

Some sort of mutated hand slapped itself against Cry's bubble; the brunet widened his eyes in alarm. Chey was the first to notice and shouted, gaining everyone's attention; Ken woke up instantly.

"Cry!"

The brunet narrowed his gaze at the demonic face before him.

'This f***er....'

Johan Ross, one of the humans that was 'saved' by the WAUs, turned into some sort of......Cry didn't know what the he** he became, but Johan looked a lot more worse in real life and up close.

Johan, ghastly face pressed to Cry's bubble, grinned maniacally; the two tuned out the other people that were yelling frantically at them.

"My, my...." His gruff, glitchy voice seemed to echo in Cry's head. "You certainly look exactly like the one who had recently approached me."

Cry narrowed his gaze, opening his mouth to say something, but Johan beat him to it.

"I have a message Cry--from him to you."

The brunet stilled as the WAU-infected man widened his grin.

"'Time is running short. You better be ready for the FINAL BATTLE'."

Cry was silent--no reaction.

Slowly, the fingers of Cry's right hand formed a fist--wisps of wind swirled around his balled hand.

Blue eyes glinted beneath his mask.

"Tell him I said...." He murmured so the others couldn't hear. "'Where is the 'he** yeah, I wanna do this' option'."

Cry sent a punch at Johan, who simply detached himself from the bubble before the small twister of wind could land a hit on him.

Johan chuckled darkly.

"I'll send him the message then."

Johan suddenly darted over to the Abyss elevator and approached Simon, laughing maniacally at the diving suit, who seemed to be clutching his head in pain.

"Wh-Who the he** are y--!?"

"Greetings! You're heading down to the Abyss? Just brilliant! I shall...prepare for your arrival, hahahaha!"

With that, Johan threw himself down into the Abyss.

Everyone was silent for a moment.

....

Ken closed his gaping mouth.

"What the f*** just happened?"

Pewds looked at the Abyss below we apprehension.

"Bros, what do we do? A sh**ty demon robot is down there, planning all his evil little plans while going 'hehehehahahehehaha'."

Russ pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Dude. Since when did evil bad guys laugh like that?"

Felix grinned widely and spun in his bubble.

"SINCE NOW, SONNY!"

The blonde then proceeded to dab in front of the bespectacled brunet, who deadpanned the other before flipping the bird at him.

Cry sighed softly.

"Guys, guys! Calm down, we just need t--"

"Simon!? Simon Jarrett, wake up! SIMON!?"

Cry turned his gaze over to the elevator; the red lights in Simon's eyes were gone.

If Cry remembered correctly....

"Cath, he'll be fine! He's just....sleeping..."

Catherine sounded incredulous in her response.

"'Sleeping'!? He's a--......you know what. Never mind. You just better hope he...wakes up later........."

Catherine's tone grew somber.

"....I don't want to be alone again."

Cry softened his gaze beneath his mask at that.

"Don't worry, Cath. He's going to be alright."

~~

Cry and the others finally made it to the floor of the Abyss.

The masked brunet could definitely feel the change of pressure as he walked across the floor to get to the elevator.

"Hey, Cath. How's Simon?"

Her voice came out shaky and unsure.

"U-Um...I'm about to see if I can wake him up. Give me a sec--SIMON, GET UP!"

After a few bated breaths, red lights flickered to life.

"--ugh. What? Catherine, what happ--....Cry?"

Cry waved.

"Mornin'--or, er, good night? Can't tell time here. Anyways, time to get up Simon."

The diving suit unbuckled himself from his seat.

"We're....here?"

Cry nodded.

"Yep."

The brunet gestured to the darkness surrounding them.

"Welcome to the Abyss, buddy."
