Chapter 1
Mukuro walked the streets of Milan as he headed back to his apartment, which was near one of his favorite pasticcerie. Even though it was his favorite he hardly ever had time to stop in and get a pastry. Usually, he was always away for work, shooting a movie for months to years depending on what part he had. However, he now had time since the premiere of his newest movie was in Milan, his hometown. He listened to music as he walked enjoying the cooler spring temperatures. As he passed by the pasticceria, the door opened causing the wonderful aroma of the baking goods to drift out onto the busy street. That was enough to convince Mukruo to walk into the pasticceria for a croissant and a small package of macarons. The pasticceria was busy like it was whenever he passed by the clear glass doors. Mukuro smiled to himself as he looked through the different varieties of baked goods. There was a line and he would respect that, besides he didn’t mind basking in the wonderful aroma that filled the shop.
When it was his turn, rather than a blond Frenchman at the register a black-haired half Japanese man stood there. The man was rather abrupt, more so than the blond. Mukuro placed his order. The man got the requested items without so much of a word. When the man returned to the register Mukuro had the correct amount to pay for the items. With the exchange done Mukuro left slightly weirded out by the lack of talking. Mukuro shook his head lightly as he walked up the stairs to his apartment.
“Well, that was different…” Mukuro mumbled, closing the door behind him. He walked over to the bar to set down the bag.
“Brother?” a small voice questioned. Mukuro looked up to see his younger sister standing against the corner to the hallway to the bedrooms.
“Nagi? What are you doing out of bed?” he questioned, walking over to her. Nagi was leaning against the wall when Mukuro got to her.
She looked up at him. “I heard the door close, I thought it was G.”
“He didn’t tell you I was coming back today?” He questioned. Nagi lightly shook her head before she started to cough. Mukuro scooped her up and took her to her room laying her on her bed. “Rest Nagi, I’ll go get you your medication.”
Nagi nodded snuggling under the thick quilt. Mukuro smiles gently before he goes to get the medication from the medicine cabinet. He sighed to himself, Nagi had been sick for nearly six years now and she wasn’t getting better. She was actually getting worse. Mukuro wasn’t sure what to do, he may be a famous actor but without support from his elder brother, there was no way he could get the right treatment for Nagi. Yet at the same time, he would rather bite his tongue then ask for his help. He had kicked them out of the family estate after all. Mukuro looked in the mirror, his heterochromia eyes stared back at him. He glared at his reflection, his right eye, like his siblings, was different than the left eye. His was red unlike the spade pupil his elder brother had, or the right eye being missing like Nagi had. He hated his eye because it was one of the only things that linked him with his elder brother.
His angry thoughts were interrupted by Nagi’s coughing growing worse. Mukuro grabbed the correct dose of the medication and refilled the bottle of water he had grabbed from the bedroom before going to his sister’s side. He nearly dropped the bottle when he saw the blood coming from Nagi’s mouth. He hurried over to her and gently sat her up leaning against the pillows. Nagi looked at Mukuro weakly.
“Brother…” she mumbled. He looked worried as he cleaned the blood off her mouth with a nearby rag.
“Shh, it’s okay Nagi,” Mukuro said gently. Nagi nodded a bit as she started coughing into her hand again pulling away from Mukuro’s concerned touch. Mukuro reached for his phone and called for an ambulance. He’s had enough of the crappy doctor his brother pays. Mukuro went to unlock the front door so the paramedics could just walk in. Nagi’s condition had grown worse in just the short time he’s been home and it scared him. He didn’t want to lose his sister.
When the paramedics got there they pushed Mukuro out of the way so they could get Nagi out of the apartment. Mukuro answered questions when he was asked. He couldn’t go with them and told Nagi he would meet her at the hospital. He left the apartment shortly after the ambulance hurrying to the hospital. At the hospital, Mukuro wasn’t allowed to see his sister so he ended up pacing in the waiting room.
A couple of hours passed and Mukuro was growing anxious wanting to know if his sister was alright. He’d been trying to distract himself by reading the script of the next movie he would be working on. He was getting pretty good at one sentence. He groaned to himself and closed the pdf file. He’s read the same sentence for the past two hours. A nurse walked out and over to Mukuro the obvious look of a professional. Mukuro stood respecting the professional manner she was displaying.
“Are you Signor Spade?” The nurse asked looking up at him. Mukuro didn’t think he’d have to go by that old name.
“Yes, but I no longer go by that name,” Mukuro replied. The nurse looked skeptical but nodded lightly.
“Then please follow me,” she said. He quietly followed her back to the room Nagi was resting quarantined from the rest of the hospital. He wasn’t allowed to go to her side which only caused his worry to grow.
“What’s wrong?” Mukuro asked, looking at the nurse.
The nurse sighed and looked up at him once again. “She has tuberculosis. It’s in the last stages.”
Mukuro’s breath hitched in shock. Then it dawned on him, his brother, that crappy doctor. This was all their fault, the doctor had told them it was bronchitis. He had to retain his anger for now. “Is there anything you can do?”
“We’ll do everything we can but I don’t want to get your hopes up,” the nurse said sadly. Mukuro nodded mutely, understanding. “Also we need to test you for it, I’ll need to take a blood sample.”
“Alright,” Mukuro nodded, allowing the nurse to do what she needed to do.
