CHAPTER FIVE TELL ME EVERYTHING

BETH AND LIZ HAD BEEN TEXTING ALL NIGHT, which also meant she had secured an invite to the girl's party and was given the option to bring Kaelyn which she was absolutely going to take advantage of. Her co-dependancy would be the death of her, but Kaelyn hadn't made any complaints yet. They showed up fifteen minutes late to Spanish thanks to their conversation in the bathroom about Kaelyn's fight with her brother and her newly realized crush on Peter Parker. It was strange to think about how fast Kaelyn's life moved when Beth wasn't paying attention. So much had happened in the past two days and Beth was only finding out about it now. She knew she was important to Kaelyn, but sometimes she just felt like she was slipping away. And now thanks to Kaelyn, they were having a girls night in instead of going to her crush's party. She knew it was worth it, Kaelyn mattered to her more than Liz did, but it still stung.

Sorry, I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it. She texted Liz underneath her desk in Spanish class, absolutely dreading the response. When her phone went a couple minutes without buzzing, she added, Kaelyn needs me tonight. She hoped it would be explanation enough so that the girl wouldn't hate her for ditching the party. Besides, it wasn't like Liz needed Beth around to have fun. She had plenty of cool senior friends to hang around with. Beth probably meant nothing to her anyway.

After a moment, her phone buzzed with a text from Liz, No worries, I hope everything's okay :). Of course she would add something as cute as a little smiley face. God, Beth was so whipped. She really needed to get ahold of herself before she started getting too deep into her fantasies where she wouldn't be able to tell them apart from reality.

She sighed as she forced herself to pay attention in class. It was so much more boring now that her and Kaelyn had been moved away from each other since they talked so much. Running a hand through her dark hair, she twisted the locks between her fingers as her hands ached for something to do besides text Liz. The girl probably thought she was some weird stalker after texting her all night. Ugh, why was she acting so stupid?

Why are you freaking? I can see you pulling your hair out, a text from Kaelyn came through and the girl looked up to meet the redhead's concerned eyes. Before she could respond, another text came through, Is it about what I told you in the bathroom? Are you mad at me or something?

As soon as she saw the question, she started typing as quickly as she could, No, no, I'm not mad at you!! I've been texting Liz and I had to tell her I couldn't come to the party, no big deal

I'm sorry for pulling you away from her, you can go if you want, I can handle one night by myself, Kaelyn texted back almost immediately as if she had been waiting eagerly for the dark-haired girl's response.

Beth scoffed, typing immediately, I promise, it's fine. There'll be other parties, I'm sure. You're more important than some silly crush. I know you'd do the same for me if it was the other way around.

I would, the first text came through within seconds, Thank you, Beth, this really means a lot.

Before she could respond, the teacher cleared his throat, "Something you would like to share with the class, Beth and Kaelyn? It seems a new seating chart won't stop you. Don't let me catch you again or those phones are mine until lunch."

"Si, Senor," Beth muttered with a forced smile as she placed her phone back in her pocket. The teacher went back to the lesson at hand, but the girl was still having trouble paying attention. She found her eyes drifting over to Peter Parker, who had his eyes glued on Kaelyn. Beth thought the redhead had to be a fool to think Peter didn't like her back. The boy looked at her like she hung the moon and the stars. All Beth wanted was for someone to look at her like that. Was that really too much to ask?

After class, Kaelyn joined Beth in the hallway, nudging her arm gently with her elbow, "You've been deep in thought, what's up?"

Beth shrugged, "Peter totally likes you, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I just wish someone liked me like that."

"Someone will one day," Kaelyn assured, smiling at her best friend as she slung her arm around her shoulders, "If not, then we'll just marry each other, right?"

The dark-haired girl scoffed, "Yeah, what was it? If we're both still single by twenty-five?"

"Yup," she confirmed with a grin, "I'm totally down still. Ugh, I would be such a good wife, I just know it."

This comment made the girl laugh as Beth shook her head, "Yeah, right. Who's gonna do all the cooking? It's not gonna be you."

"Hey! I have more value than being your personal chef," the girl argued, but Beth knew she was just skirting around the fact that she couldn't cook to save her life. "Besides, you've always been culinarily gifted."

"Is culinarily even a word?"

"Fuck if I know," Kaelyn scoffed as the two girls burst into a fit of laughter. It was at that moment that Liz Allan walked by and waved to Beth and Kaelyn. Beth waved back with a smile, but since they had a class to get to there really wasn't much room for conversation. "Oh, yeah, by the way, when did that happen?"

Beth shrugged, her cheeks turning a light pink, "Uh, last night. We were texting until like... two."

"And when were you gonna tell me this?" Kaelyn guffawed, her face covered in mock offense. "You were just sitting on that one?"

"You were having a crisis!" Beth exclaimed in her defense, "Besides, you literally stayed at Peter's apartment so you've made much more progress in the crush department than I have. I didn't think it was all that noteworthy."

Despite her brushing it off, it felt kind of nice to have the attention on her. Beth wondered if she was selfish for thinking that, but part of her didn't really care. She was just glad she got to talk about Liz and if that was weird or selfish, then so be it. She deserved to have her moments where she got to just gush.

Kaelyn broke her out of her train of thought as she demanded, "Oh, my God, tell me everything!"

So, Beth did.

this chapter is so SHORT I'm sorry i promise there'll be plot soon I'm working up to it, but we're almost to liz's party which, if you've read busted, is where some shit goes down and I'm excited to write it from beth's POV so it'll be fun!!
