02 - Thelma? Louise

CHAPTER TWO THELMA? LOUISE

THERE REALLY WAS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT LIZ ALLAN. She was kind, gentle, all sorts of things. Beth sighed as she walked past a graffitied locker, her mind stuck on the senior she couldn't stop thinking about. As if the universe was reading her mind, she walked past the very senior. Her heart stopped just for the moment as the girl smiled at her and waved. Beth could officially die happy, she thinks. The world slowed down for a moment and Beth could have sworn the choir kids were practicing a little too loudly and there was a breeze in the hallway blowing Liz's dark hair dramatically, but it was probably just all in her head.

A voice snapped her out of her trance, a fellow classmate of hers named Claudia got her attention, "Oh, hey, Beth!"

Before she could even think about it, the words of an obsessive crush left her mouth. "Hey, was that Liz talking to you guys? What was that about?"

The blonde girl shrugged, "Just talking about how she doesn't believe all the shit Flash is spreading. Please tell me you don't either?"

"I don't!" she exclaimed immediately, although she wasn't really good friends with Miles Hemming, Beth knew he wasn't a stalker. God, there was too much happening at Midtown High. Beth really was starting to remember her conversation with Kaelyn about personalities and side characters. She felt like a sidekick in her own life and apparently, she was one in everyone else's life, too. She turned to the dark-haired boy with a sympathetic look, "Trust me, big dyke here, I don't care who's kissing who! And for the record, Kae doesn't believe it either. Can't speak for the rest of our grade, but... well, yeah. Anyway, speak of the devil, I should probably go find her. See ya in math, Claudia. Bye, Miles!"

With that, she took off down the hallway with a deep breath. Her and Kaelyn had plans to study before class and Beth was super, duper late. However, she had more important news to share with her best friend than Algebra because Liz Allan had waved to her. That had never happened before. Like ever.

She threw down her books on the table her redheaded best friend was sitting at and judging by the looks she received from the other students, she had done so a little too loudly. However, she didn't care as she huffed and took her seat.

"Dude, you're late. If you're gonna be late at least bring me coffee," Kaelyn sighed, staring at the homework in front of her.

"Giving your homework a death glare isn't going to make it solve itself," Beth observed, pulling her thermos with what was left of that morning's coffee and handing it over to the redhead. "There. Coffee. Now, I have news."

"What happened? Is it more bullshit about Flash and that kid?"

Beth rolled her eyes, "No and why is everybody talking about that? Ugh, I'm tired of not being the only Asian gay kid at this school any more that was like my only personality trait."

"We've talked about this," Kaelyn sighed, "You need to work on your self-confidence, dude."

"You have enough for both of us."

"Thelma?"

"Louise," Beth finished with a small laugh, "You're so lame, can we just do math? I'm like sort of average at that."

Kaelyn shrugged, pushing her red hair behind her shoulders so it was out of her way as she stared down at the paper. "Better than me. This shit is so stupid."

"You just need a better tutor," the girl scoffed, pulling the piece of paper over to her side of the paper so she could see the problem. Her nose scrunched up as soon as she realized what it was. "Ugh, dude, I cannot help you with this. You need like someone who is paid to know this shit."

The girl rolled her eyes, taking the paper back and putting it back in her binder. "I'll just cheat later. You never told me your news."

"I think Liz Allan knows who I am," Beth exclaimed. She had almost forgotten how excited she was, but the feeling came flooding back as soon as the words left her mouth. "She looked right at me, made eye contact and all that shit, and waved! I know it's super stupid, but I have literal butterflies right now. Butterflies, Kaelyn."

She laughed, crossing her arms, "I'm so happy for you. Hey, I mean, you gotta start somewhere, right? Ugh, I cannot remember the last time I had a crush on a boy."

"Dude, the entire JV football team is utterly in love with you," Beth scoffed, "You're telling me you don't have a thing for any of those second-string beefcakes?"

Kaelyn shrugged. "Not really, I've never liked athletic guys, you know that. Besides, everyone knows Caden is like overprotective as shit when it comes to boys. I need to bring home someone scrawny so Caden knows he could beat him up if he wanted to. There's just no boys like that that are like my type. I mean, Miles is cute in a little scrawny way, but he's gay so, that's definitely not happening."

Beth chuckled softly, biting her lips gently as she thought about Kaelyn and boys. Beth had been so love-obsessed for as long as she could remember, but her best friend never had that problem. If a boy fell into her lap, Kaelyn might take it. She never chased, never yearned. That was almost exclusively a Beth thing. Just once she wanted Kaelyn to feel the way about someone that Beth felt about Liz. It was exciting, to be young and in love. Well, considering her and Liz had never really spoken it was probably more along the lines of adoration, but she could worry about that later. She still had so much time to figure everything out, but part of her really wanted to figure things out with Liz. She was pretty sure that wasn't gonna happen, but a girl could dream.

"I don't know, I think if anyone at Midtown could turn him it would totally be you," Beth joked in the best deadpan she could manage as she twirled a pencil against her thumb nonchalantly, but soon she caved in and began laughing at her own joke. However, she was met with an eyeroll from Kaelyn which only made her laugh more, "Kidding, kidding. Anyway, I bet you'll fall in love with a nice little scrawny nerd who will treat you right. It's what you deserve."

"I bet you'll find a way to make Liz Allan fall in love with you," Kaelyn retorted with a smile that actually seemed genuine, "It's what you deserve."

"Fuck all the way off," Beth shook her head as the two girls burst into a fit of giggles.

However, there was one person who did not think they were funny which happened to be the librarian who was glaring daggers at the two girls as they continued laughing. Their joy was interrupted when the woman exclaimed, "You two! Take it to the hallway!"

The two girls snickered as they gathered their things, accepting the fact that they got kicked out. Rightfully so, they were too loud for their own good. Beth was lucky that even through trifles with boys and girls respectively, she always had Kaelyn. Without a doubt, they always had each other.

why do i end every chapter like it's the ending narration of a cheesy teen movie i hate myself i need to learn how to end things anyway here's a lil snippet of beth and kaelyn as well as a scene from Maniac bc i keep forgetting these all take place in the same universe
