"Sometimes my heart feels chained in poison ivy -- I think loving someone who doesn't care enough about you is toxic," he said with sadness dripping heavily from his lowered voice.
"What's wrong?"- She took the empty spot next to him, smoothening the folds of her skirt.
"I... I fell for someone too hard and way too soon; I regret it all now."
"Love is too beautiful to be regretted. I know what it must feel like to know that the warm, loving breaths on the back of your neck are now just puffs of smoke; residing in ashes of the past. I know what it feels like to lose someone who became a piece of you; it's like forgetting who you used to be and begin that journey of self-discovery once again," she sighed.
"I don't want to go through that journey again- it was beautiful but, I don't want to start over again. I am breathlessly in love and I don't know what to do."
"Sometimes we find a person who has nectar pulsing through their veins and stars set in their fingertips as their lips spill the droplets of heaven and their legs grace the earth with their celestial glory- yes, they are precious but, when you think you see an ocean in someone's eyes, it might not be as beautiful as you think it is; you might be seeing it because they want you to drown and choke on your own watery love. Our unprotected hearts are fragile; we must fall in love carefully."
"I can't get her out of my mind—she is one of the stars that kiss me goodnight, she is the wind rattling my windows and reminding me how strong love is, she is the swirl of cappuccino in my morning coffee which helps me get through the day no matter how hard everything is, she is the dreamy mist coating my sleep; she is my everything. I would never be able to move on. I am going to miss her, the sweetness in her kisses, her affectionate touches, the way she plays with her hair and tangles them in her fingers in nervousness and the mindless conversations we used to have between fits of laughter; I want her back so bad."
"Please try not to think about her for a minute; think about what you want and why her traces on your soul and her presence in your life are no longer what you need. You are in love with who she used to be; she is no longer the same person and the sooner you accept it, the sooner you will get better. I can feel what you feel too, believe me. The sound of your heart shattering in a million pieces of heartache is echoing through my ears too but, guess what? You will soon discover how to put your heart back together in a way that it can never be broken so mercilessly," the sorrowful look in his eyes mirrored in hers too as she reached across the oak-wood table to hold his hand in an attempt to comfort him.
"How will I ever forget her delicate fingers tracing my tattooed chest? How will I ever get rid of everything she gave me to remember? I can't even imagine a world without her; let alone moving on."
"You are heartbroken and wounded; you are vulnerable to the pain of the real world but, you will recover soon to be a stronger person. Trust me. Take baby steps- I know you could never forget someone who has given you so much to remember in just a couple of days. Give it time and take care of yourself. Slowly, her memories will just be a silhouette, fading into a blurry past and won't resemble a monster of regrets waiting to jump at you; I know you will be okay."
"Really? I can't believe that I will ever feel okay but, the glint of hope surrounding your irises tells me that there's always a light, even in the darkest nights. I really want to believe your words."
"Today, your bed might be full of tissues and the bedsheets might reek of loneliness but, one day they would be scented with confidence and positivity."
"I can't thank you enough," he got up to embrace her and for once, he felt like his life wasn't a mess.
