PUSHING one of the smaller shopping carts through the store, Sim Jaeyun smiled cheekily as he led her through the many different aisles after successfully completing her shopping list — now wasting time looking around at what all there was to offer.
“The kids aisle?” Seonmi breathed out a laugh, eyes flickering around the selection of toys as he pushed the cart into the aisle, settling it aside against the shelves.
“Hey, hey, hey. It's not the kid's aisle. It's the toy aisle.” Jake corrected, clicking his tongue as Seonmi let out a laugh and shook her head.
“Mm, right, my bad.” She let out, tone of voice laced with sarcasm as she nodded her head in agreement. “Why are we over here?”
“To look, duh.” Jake replied snarkily, hands rolling up the sleeves of the thin jacket he had on, tilting his head.
A smile spread across her features as she nodded her head, eyes skimming lazily over the toy selection before landing on a Barbie set. “Hey, they have Barbies here.”
“We should get Barbie and Ken and be matching.” Jake suggested half-jokingly, as the girl peered over her shoulder to steal a quick glance at him.
“Honestly, I'm kinda down.” She said, as the boy paused and blinked, surprise taking place over his face as he stared at her.
“Wait, seriously?” He asked, a lopsided grin spread across his face. “I was just joking. But hey, I'm down.”
Seonmi chuckled, picking out a random Barbie and Ken doll and tossing it into her cart mindlessly, as he stood by and watched, a small laugh bubbling from his throat.
“Awe, our first couple items. How cute.” Jake pouted teasingly, earning a glare from the girl who snickered and shook her head hurriedly, shutting down his words.
“Oh, shut up.” She let out between giggles, biting her lip to suppress her smiles. “You can have matching things and still be friends.”
“You can, but that doesn't mean that's what we are. Aren't Barbie and Ken dating or something?” Jake asked, tilting his head off to the side.
“Haven't you watched the Barbie movie? The live action one — with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.” She quirked a brow, as Jake narrowed his eyes.
“Okay.. there's different Barbie movies. There's also life in the dream house.” The boy pointed out, his expression perking up as Seonmi hummed in response.
“Oh my god, wait, we're so Barbie and Ken life in the dreamhouse coded.” Jake laughed, leaning back against the shopping cart as Seonmi joined in quietly on his laughter.
“You're making me want to rewatch literally every Barbie movie and show to exist.” Seonmi stated, a groan falling past her lips as she folded her arms over her chest.
“So, let's do it! It will be so fun.” Jake exclaimed, looking for a new excuse to be able to hang out with her.
“I might take you up on that offer, not gonna lie.” Seonmi admitted, trailing off as his eyes brightened.
“It's a date?”
“We'll see.” Seonmi hummed out, reaching out and patting his shoulder lightly before she walked further down the aisle, looking at the options.
“I'm taking that as a win, I don't care.” Jake stated determinedly, pursing his lips as he followed closely behind her.
Seonmi huffed out a laugh at his words, keeping her eyes focused on the array of toys on the shelves before landing on a rubber bouncing ball.
She reached out, grabbing it out of the small basket it was in as she squeezed it between her two hands, testing its durability before bouncing it twice on the cold floors.
“Here, here, pass.” Jake called out quietly, hands held out his hands. Seonmi nodded, smiling as she bounced it on the floor once more before sending it his way to catch.
Soon enough, it turned into a mini game of passing, bouncing it on the floor and back up into each other's hands.
Seonmi caught the ball in her hands once again, before bouncing it two times on the floor before sending it back to the boy — right when an employee entered their aisle, a displeased look on his face.
“Do not play around with that here.” The employee warned, eyes flickering between Jake and Seonmi. “There is a lot of glass in this store. I do not need you two to break anything because of this.”
“But, this is how we test if we wanna buy it.” Jake spoke up after a moment, pressing his lips into a thin line as he stifled his laughter.
“I don't care. Either put it back where you found it or in your cart.” The employee stated firmly before leaving the aisle, as Seonmi released a small breath.
“That was awkward.” She commented, earning a nod in agreement from Jake as he tossed the purple colored ball back into the bin on the shelf.
“Very.” He added with a sigh, frowning dramatically. “I was having fun.” He complained half-jokingly, rolling his eyes.
“Hm, oh well.” Seonmi sighed out, moving on from the situation. “Look, they have marvel stuff here too.” She pointed out, catching his attention.
“Where?” He asked, feet carrying him closer to stand beside her as his gaze lingered on all of the plastic marvel toys.
“Spider-Man!” Seonmi gasped quietly, her voice filled with excitement as she pointed to the action figure hung up on a rectangular box. “I love Spider-Man.”
Jake smiled, only nodding in response as he took a step back, head turning to make sure there weren't others around. “Oh yeah, watch this.” Jake said, holding back a laugh as he lowered himself to the ground.
“I'm literally Spider-Man, if you look from a different angle.” He stated, laughing from the floor as Seonmi clasped a hand over her mouth, stifling laughter of her own out of fear of getting in trouble with the staff.
“What the hell, Jake? We're gonna get in trouble!” She whisper yelled with silent laughter, covering her eyes with her palm as said boy laughed in response, before soon enough — she pulled out her phone, snapping a quick photo and posting to her story.
“I’m literally Spider-Man. They can't stop me.” Jake joked, hoisting himself up from the ground with her help as she stuck a hand out for him to take.
“Shouldn't you be out stopping crime then?” Seonmi asked, as Jake shook his head, dusting himself off.
“The real crime would be passing up an opportunity to be anywhere near you.” Jake said, giving her a teasing smile as she scoffed and nudged him, a pink hue settled across her cheeks.
“You’re something else, Sim Jaeyun.”
“Hey, I did it! You're totally blushing right now.” Jake laughed, using his index finger to poke her cheek softly as she grumbled and swatted his hand away.
“Am not.” She countered, bickering with the boy, who only seemed to tease her in return.
