( ★ ) Cousins, Massachusetts was the town that hundreds of people traveled to every year. It was right on the beach and allowed those in the area to still enjoy the sand and water while not having to travel hundreds of thousands miles. The town was best known for its debutante ball every year, girls and boys dressing up to show their elegance and maturity. The ball was normally organized by the country club with a board of members helping as well, some of them being susannah fisher, jennifer bardot, and brittany wright.

The town was also known for those that lived there and the houses they had along the beach. While hundreds of people actually lived in cousins year round, hundreds of people had summer houses there. The Bardot family was one of those families, along with the fisher family. Susannah and Jennifer had grown up together, along with their friend, Laurel. Along the way, they found more friends and eventually had kids that all became friends. It was the perfect story they wanted. Although, nothing was perfect in their friend group or their kids friend group.

That summer would be one of the last, if not the last, summers where everyone was together. It was either everyone was going off to college or they just didn't have time those following summers, and while it pains them, they were prepared to make that summer the best summer they've ever had. If only things ever went according to plan when it came to cousins.

( ★ ) Alana Bardot hated moving. She has moved multiple times in her life, from New York to Boston and now back to New York. All because a car accident ripped everything away from her. She went to cousins with a large friend group, a potential future in volleyball and swimming, and a loving and caring boyfriend. She left cousins with only a few friends, her future dream being ended, and no boyfriend. She still had her family and the conklins, plus Jeremiah and Susannah. But she still felt alone. Without the one thing that held her together throughout her entire life, she was nothing. She felt like she couldn't live without him.

Eventually, she moved on though. A year is long time to process and Alana finally came to the realization soon after moving to new York that Conrad Fisher wasn't worth her time. She already had to deal with her dad at home, she couldn't handle worrying about whether or not she would get back with Conrad. Alana held onto hope for the first few months but eventually realized that it wasn't worth it. She could be with someone else and actually be happy, not stuck up on a boy that broke and hurt her like no one else ever could.

Alana didn't think returning to cousins would be so difficult for her. All she had to do was survive that summer and then she probably wouldn't see him again for a very long time. But when your in the presence of Conrad fisher, it's hard to forget about him and how impactful he was on your life. Especially when he was the only one who truly understood her.

( ★ ) Conrad fisher wasn't sure what was going through his mind when he broke up with Alana Bardot. He knew he had a traumatic brain injury but that shouldn't have caused him to hurt the one girl he loved more than anything else in the world. The minute he sent the text, he wanted to take it all back. He wanted to tell her that she wasn't a mistake, that getting in a relationship with her wasn't a mistake. He wanted to reassure her that he didn't view her as just a friend and didn't think of her as a sister. He wanted to make sure she knew that he loved her. But he ruined it. Like he did with all of the things he gets close to.

Conrad waited weeks, even months, before he reached out to her again. He tried to send her a message that april, needing to talk to her. He had just found out probably the worst news of his entire life, and it didn't help that he found something else out along with that. But it had been too late. By the time he texted her, Alana had already blocked him and gotten with someone else. Someone who actually paid attention to her and thought that she was the only girl to ever exist. And the only reason Conrad found out was because of a blonde haired boy that lived just across the hall from Alana.

This was what caused Conrad to move on. He spent months regretting the words he said to her that night but now, he didn't even care. He went around and started picking up bad habits. Not just because of the breakup, but because of the bad news that he had found out just moments before he found out about Alana. He buried his feelings deep down and hid them with his habits, not wanting to hurt anyone else. But by the time he returned to cousins, he was already falling in love with his ex. He was falling in love with the one girl who truly understood him and his pain.

( ★ ) Alana and Conrad had loved each other from day one. They started dating during eighth grade and dated through high school, that was until the summer before their senior year. As always, love never lasts when Conrad fisher and Alana Bardot are involved. They broke up and went their separate ways, Alana going back to New York and Conrad going to Boston. They didn't speak or see each other for a whole year, which was the longest time they had gone without speaking in their entire life.

The two teens felt like they were truly alone the entire year leading up to the return to cousins. Maybe that's why Alana was so different when she returned. Maybe that's why Conrad was so closed off a reserved when he returned. The only thing they did know though, was that they wouldn't make it through that cruel summer without each other. And that was the only thing giving them hope.
