14. 'this freaking sucks'

A/n:
Very tired rn, so if you see any mistake, ignore it and live on.

WHO EVEN IS HE ANYWAY? Why is he so close to her and why is she laughing so much. God, this freaking sucks. I swear, I'd rather get blinded with forks than to see them talk for another 5 minutes.

I roll my eyes as I headed to the mini bar,
grabbing a glass of wine and pouring it on a cup, I look over to Lennon and the guy she was with, then quickly poured the liquid down my throat, not wanting to see them talking. I drink a couple more glasses before I felt someone grab my shoulders, making me put down the wine, "Watcha doing there, buddy?" Jacob whispers on my ear. I push his face away from my shoulder and turn around to him.

"Why were you looking at my sister?" He chuckled, walking up to be next to me. I quickly turned to him, realizing he caught me looking at Lennon, "I wasn't. I just noticed her with that dude and was curious." I murmured before drinking more wine.

Jacob placed his arm around me before looking over at Lennon and the guy she was talking to. "Oh shit, why is she with a boy?" He asked? I think. "Probably wants a summer fling." I responded, chugging down another glass, feeling my throat burning. I hope that's not what she wants.

I want her to be happy, of course, but seeing him with someone else sucks, specially when I'm present.

"Don't say that, dude, it almost sounded like you wanted to cry." He laughed, looking over to his sister. I turned to him, "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, worried I made it too obvious.

"Look, dude, I'm your best friend,"

He is, but there's also Lennon.

"And as your best friend, it is my job to know everything of everything about you, and you're still...clearly not over her."

I turn to him and blinked, "I never even liked her." I stuttered. Jake chuckled and clapped his hand on my back, "Sure, buddy, sure."

"I swear!" I shouted, only so Jake could hear. "Besides, she's not interested in me, she's made that very clear."

Jake's eyes widened. "How!?" He shouted. "She's been so bubbly with you, it's getting gross." He rolled his eyes, getting protective over his sister.

"You're the one who's always mean to her, maybe that's why she thought you didn't like her so now she went with someone else." Jake said.

That made....some sense.

I looked from him then to Lennon who was laughing with the guy. "Whatever, she's already in love with that....attractive and....nice looking man." I murmured, once again, chugging down the drink.

"Why do you even care? You still like her, don't you, lover boy?" He said, trying to go back to making me admit my feelings.

I opened my mouth to say something but shut it. "I don't know, I mean, we're friends." I looked at him, "and things have been kind of flirty lately, plus, we' ve had some moments—"

"Ugh. Stop talking about her like that and just say you still like her, man."

"I don't like her." I stated. Jake tilted his head with an obvious look, "Fine. I still like her, and I thought about asking her out this summer, but Nicole came and then this dude."

"Look, bro, I'm not good with relationships because I've only ever been in one, loved her, miss her, but if you want to be with her, you have to let her know you're an option. Like, right now, go to her and convince her to hang out with you."

"You give awful advices." I said.

"Whatever, I think you know what you've got to do, good luck, man." He said, walking away, signaling that Lennon was walking towers us.

All of a sudden, I felt like I couldn't talk, I don't know why. I don't like her. I don't know why I said that, she's just a friend, an attractive, funny, bubbly, nice, kind, beautiful friend.

Fuck. I thought. Maybe I am in love with her, nope, too much. Why does she make me so nervous? She's not even talking to me yet.

What was going to be my first move? Talk to her like a normal person? No. Bump into her on accident.

"What do you want?" She said, sounding over it. Is she annoyed?

"Who was that?" I said, looking behind Lennon with lost eyes. She followed my gaze to see the guy who was now talking to an old lady with a kind smile, god, he looks like a nice person, maybe it's a good thing he and Lennon met.

She got quiet for a quick second. "Uhh, that's...none of your business, you nousy little bitch." She paused before continuing walking. I placed a hand on her stomach to stop her from walking, which obviously did.

"But, why were you, like, talking to him?" I asked with more of a nervous tone, stop sounding so obvious. Lennon furrowed her eyebrows and chuckled, "Why are you so interested in what I do? Obsessed much?" She joked.

Kind of, yeah. "Definitely not." I said so quickly that it made me shut up as soon as I said it. The brunette eyed me, looking me up and down, my whole body language was saying something totally different, I was hoping she wouldn't notice.

"Okay...we'll, I'm going to go now." She smiles at me, that smile gets me every-time. She walked away from me. I felt a smile grow on my face before it fading away as quickly as it came out. "Wait, where are you going?" I asked.

"To a coffee shop." She simply said, not stopping my tracks. I followed behind like a lost puppy and exclaimed, "With who!?" My voice sounding higher than usual. That never happens with anyone but her.

"With a friend. Who else would I be going with?"

"With that guy?" I pointed towards the still—good looking man who was looking to us right when we did. He smiled at Lennon and waved, she waved back and smiled to herself, ugh, I hate this shit. I just watched their interaction and rolled my eyes. "You literally just met him." I stated.

You're just jealous. I'm not.

"So? That's how people become friends, Conrad. Basic knowledge, Jesus". She muttered the last part, rolling her eyes at me. Okay, so she sounded mad.

She stopped my tracks once she realized i was not going to stop following her . "Why do you keep following me?" She asked, getting angrier.

Maybe I should leave her alone, she deserves someone like that guy, he looks nice and kind, while I'm here...treating her like shit.

"Why aren't you hanging out with us?" My voice saddened.

"Fun fact; I don't talk to people unless they talk to me first! You should know that by now!" She sarcastically smiled. I scrunched my face, "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"It means, that throughout this whole event you haven't tried to talk to me or even acknowledge me, and now, you talked to me first and boom, conversation started, but now I ended it because I want a coffee and I want to have new friends other than you and....Steven and....Jeremiah and.... That's kind of it, it's hard to make friends, you know?" She said as final words before heading out, walking to somewhere else.

Friend. She thinks of me as a friend, great.

A few minutes passed and the only thing I saw was her leaving with the guy who she considers her new friend, my eyes saddened at the fact that she's going out with him and not with me. I rolled my eyes and was about to go for another drink before Laurel called for me.
