Chapter 23.
"Why do you think Trevor or Stacy didn't tell you about them being mates?" I asked as we walked up to the door.
"I don't know but right now isn't the time to discuss this." He said as he placed a gentle kiss on Rosalina's face.
He knocked on the door and a minute later a woman opened the door.
"Victoria?" I asked.
Victoria was two years older than me, when we were younger Victoria and I would occasionally play around with the boys. She got older and began hanging around kids around her age. After that we just stopped talking. She had golden blonde hair, emerald green eyes and freckles that spread across her nose. She was always the type of shy person and hung out with people she was comfortable with.
"Hi Alpha Xavier, hi Felicity, hello there little baby." She smiled at us.
"Hello Victoria, nice to see you again. Is Trevor home? We would like to make sure he is fine before we head out." Xavier asked.
Victoria sighed and looked at us with sadness. "He hasn't left the house yet. Ever since the death of Stacy he has been locked up in this house sulking and depressed."
"May we come in and speak with him?" I asked quietly.
She smiled at us and invited us inside of her home. It seemed like a normal two story home. We entered the living room and noticed a blonde haired man staring up at the wall with vodka in one hand and the other holding a picture. His eyes were blood shot and his clothes were dingy and smelly as if he hasn't showered in a while.
I remember Trevor from when we were little, I didn't want my first time seeing him in a long time to be like this.
"Trevor we have guests." Victoria said kindly.
"I don't want their fucking sympathy! Tell them to go!" He slurred.
Xavier growled loudly not appreciating the disrespect placed upon him and his family. Trevor's head whipped around as he slightly cursed to himself and placed the vodka bottle on the coffee table. He got up from the couch, nearly falling backwards and bowed.
"Alpha what a lovely surprise to be in your presence." His voice was deep and laced with sarcasm.
I looked up at Xavier nervously because he had a bad temper and didn't deal with disrespect very well. He seemed calm, almost as if he was expecting this.
"Anaïs could you excuse us for a moment?" Xavier said as he stepped toward Trevor.
I nodded and was about to walk out of the door until Victoria called my name.
I grabbed Rosy from Xavier and followed Victoria into the kitchen.
She sat down at the kitchen table and looked up at me shyly, almost as if she didn't know what to say.
"I would ask you how is life but I heard it hasn't been the greatest." She said quietly.
"As far as?"
"Well you know ever since those two years ago and then going into a new pack and being abused and stuff." She said as she shifted uncomfortably.
I narrowed my eyes. "How do you know this?"
"Stacy would come visit Trevor all the time and spill everything, you, Xavier, being Luna, her emotions and she wasn't secret about it. She was even a little bossy but Trevor loved her."
"How long have they known about each other being mates?" I questioned.
"For about a few months now." She lowered her head towards me as if not wanting anyone else to hear. "I'm honestly scared of Trevor now, he's been saying crazy suicidal things and talking about hurting the Alpha. I know he wouldn't do such thing but I'm scared." She said in fear.
I felt sorry for Victoria, she was a sweet and quiet girl but didn't like getting into dangerous situations or drama. She liked to be to herself.
"Please make sure you keep an eye on him, we don't want him to do anything dangerous." I said calmly.
She nodded her head and looked past my shoulder. I turned around to see Xavier standing in the doorway with his eyes closed and breathing heavily.
I walked up to him and placed my hand on his cheek, instantly he began to calm down.
"Baby what's wrong?" I asked concerned.
He looked down at me and shook his head.
"I don't want to talk about it right now." He growled.
I turned to Victoria and smiled.
"Thank you for allowing us to visit, maybe you should come by the pack house sometime so we could hang out like we used to when we were kids." I suggested.
Her face immediately lit up and she nodded her head.
"That sounds like fun, I'll take you up on that Anaïs." She said cheerfully.
She led us out of the home and out the house, waving as we walked toward the car.
"What did you and Trevor talk about?" I asked cautiously.
Xavier was strangely quiet during our walk. Usually he would grab Rosy from me but this time he didn't.
"He hates me." He said sternly.
Honestly that wasn't a surprise to me, she didn't tell anyone about finding her mate because she wanted to be with Xavier. I know Trevor must have been crazy jealous.
"That's not a surprise."
"No but he started talking about Daniel and how I failed as a brother." He growled menacingly.
I looked up in surprise and hurt. That was very low of Trevor. Xavier never asked for Stacy to fall for him just like I never asked for Daniel to be killed.
Xavier stopped me abruptly and looked at me with an emotion I wasn't used to in his eyes.
Jealousy.
"It's bad enough that I only get to hear small things that go through your mind but the fact that Daniel is running through your mind makes me on edge." His jaw tightened.
"You can't ignore that fact that Daniel was my first love, he's the one I always truly loved." I snapped.
I was surprised at my words, I made it seem like I didn't love Xavier at all.
"He cheats on you and lies about you being his mate. I defend you, leave myself with emotional and physical scars and even took deadly lashes. I know where your heart rests." He growled as he walked away from me.
I quickly caught up to him and placed a free hand on his shoulder.
"You're playing the victim here when you aren't the victim. You rejected me and left me to shift-"
"I'm not having this discussion with you right now." His voice was laced with annoyance and hurt.
"But you don't understand-"
"I UNDERSTAND WHAT I DID WAS FUCKED! I FELL INTO A DEEP DEPRESSION AFTER DANIEL DIED, I LOST MY TWIN AND MY BEST FRIEND AND MATE, I REJECTED YOU AND I WAS FORCED TO MARK SOMEONE WHO DIDN'T BELONG TO ME AND I HURT YOU SO MUCH!"
Rosalina began crying in my arms as she unintentionally stuffed her face into my arm.
"Xavier I-"
"I understand that you've been through a lot and it's because of me and I'm sorry. But if you really don't think I'm trying or that you'll never truly love me then why didn't you accept my rejection? " He sighed loudly and grabbed Rosalina from me to calm her down.
He rocked her in his arms and I watched as she slowly began to calm down.
"Xavier you don't-"
"I don't want to talk about this anymore, even in death I always come second to Daniel." He said walking towards the car.
I stayed silent as we walked toward the car. I noticed Xavier putting Rosalina inside of a car seat so I got into the back seat with her. When he finished buckling her in, he got into driver side and started the engine.
I held Rosy's little hand as she began falling asleep.
"You might not be able to understand Grandpa Ryder because of his italian accent. Just tell me if you can't understand." I heard Xavier say.
I nodded and looked at Rosy. I never actually met any of Xavier's family. Rosy and Ryder were from Italy and occasionally visited here. Xavier's dad was a pure blood Italian but decided to move to America because of his mate. Xavier's mother was from Brazil but her entire pack migrated to America because of a threat in Brazil.
I looked out the window at the passing cars as we drove into the city. Passing shopping malls, diners, apartments until we finally stopped at a restaurant called Big Red.
I unbuckled Rosalina's sleeping figure and picked her up as I got out the car. Xavier and I walked into the restaurant and were greeted by the hostess.
"Hello, do you have reservations?" She asked as she smiled at us sweetly.
"We will joining the party of the Astor's." Xavier said.
She nodded her head and beckoned us to follow her. It was a nice establishment. It wasn't too fancy but well established. As we walked toward a table with two older looking couple, the woman looked up with a giant smile on her face. She had short light brown hair and brown eyes. She didn't seem that old but was obviously older than Xavier and I.
"Il mio ragazzo!" She said as she got up and hugged Xavier.
"Ciao Nonna, Ciao Nonno." He looked over at the older man who had a stern look on his face.
Rosalina woke up and began screaming loudly which caused all attention to turn to me.
