Cover Blown!
No pictures. Nothing on Google. Nothing of Facebook, instagram, twitter.
This guy was a complete ghost.
It had been a week since Mason had joined the school and a week since I had tried to find some dirt on him. I had come up with nothing yet. Nothing.
And that was what motivated me to find out more about this guy. No one is as hard to search about as this guy so there was DEFINITELY something wrong.
Coming to school.... The past week was terrible. Turns out Chase liked to befriend new students in general because now Mason sat with us during lunch too. It wasn't helpful that he was with me in chemistry too.
"Say, Katherine," Mason asked me on the lunch table. "Why did you shift states?" He had a smirk on his face as if he already knew the answer to that question. I, however, decided to turn the spotlight on him.
"Meh. Mom and I needed a change of scenery. But enough about me, what about you? Why did you decide to shift?"
"Just searching for something that was lost," he said nonchalantly with a shrug. If anything his vague answer only unnerved me more. The others had confused expressions too because then he decided to clarify, "I'm just philosophical that way, guys," he said with a chuckle. "I'm searching for my 'calling'."
"That was one of the lamest things I've heard today," said Noah from beside me.
I grinned at him at that. That was why I liked him the most than the people on this table. Just a few days but he still knows me enough to know that I don't particularly like Mason.
"Enough about that nonsense," said Sam. "I've heard you've come from New York, buddy. Any girls you know there that you can hook me up with? Since, you know, Samantha and I are shifting there in about a week."
"You guys are?" I asked with wide eyes. I had no clue about this.
"You have been sitting with these people for a week, Kat," said Chase with amusement. "Hell, even Britt and I have with you. And we know too."
"Hurt, Katherine," said Samantha feigning disappointment. I looked at her sheepishly at that.
"Who have you been thinking about, Katy? Someone we know?" Britt said, waggling her eyebrows.
"Me, obviously," Chase said. "I saw her checking me out that day in the gym too."
"I was not!" I exclaimed, my cheeks burning up in embarrassment.
"The blush on your face says otherwise," Pearl said with a knowing smile.
I decided to ignore their comments and listen in on the conversation happening on the other side of the table.
"So, Mason," I heard Kristine say as she practically moved from her chair and went and sat on his lap. "You free today?" she said in what I assumed was a sultry voice.
"I am, actually," he said with a smirk and put an arm around her waist. "Want to do something together?"
Ew. I mean, I wasn't necessarily a big fan of Kristine considering she was not exactly that welcoming to me and I have heard her give a few snide remarks about me but going out with Mason is a whole new level of low. Why would anyone want to do that? I mean, the guy was the definition of shady.
"I'll have to talk to Kristine about that guy," Noah whispered to me. "I'm not really a big fan. I don't want her to get her heart broken."
"I think so too," I said as I turned to see Mason looking towards me and give me a wink when Kristine turned to talk to Derek.
"This guy is definitely trouble."
***
"So, Katherine, I heard you punched Jonathan the other day."
It was Chemistry period and fate had decided to torture me since Mason took the seat right next to me. I did what I do best, ignore the problem until it goes away. The only problem was that the problem, Mason in my case, still wasn't going away.
"I also heard that you tackled Noah on your first day here and held a knife to his neck."
How the hell did he know that?
"Oh, did you know that Candice banged her nose into one of the lockers on purpose just so that she could share her precious boyfriend's pain. I personally find it a bit fishy that she would do something like that to her own face on purpose considering that she LOVES the way she looks..... without a broken nose, that is.
Weird that she would do something like that for Jonathan, no? Its almost magical," he whispered into my ears.
Don't kill him. You aren't allowed to kill fellow students.
"Enough about Candice though. Lets talk about you," he continued. He wasn't doing any work himself but wasn't letting me do anything with these talks of his too.
He put his elbow on his table and rested his chin on his palm and stared at me.
"I never really pegged you for a girl whose name started with 'K', though, you know," he said, smirk intact.
Control. DO NOT remove your knife. I repeat, DO NOT.
Mason then leaned in towards me and quietly said, "You always seem like an 'I' girl to me."
Yeah okay that's enough. I quickly removed my pocket knife and rammed it between his fingers since his other palm was lying on the table.
I didn't have to look to know that I didn't hurt him. I trusted myself enough to know that I wouldn't hurt him.
What annoyed me more was that he didn't even blink, almost as if he was expecting such a reaction from me. Thankfully we were on the last bench of the room, right in the corner, so nobody heard us.
"Listen here, Mason Parker," I said with clenched teeth. "You might have the whole school fooled here, but not me. I see right through all of your double meaning jabs towards me so do us both a favour and just get to the point where you tell me about who you actually are, how do you know about the mystical world, and what do you want from me."
"Right to the point. I knew I would come to like you," he whispered with a smirk.
"Meet me at the Lincoln Field Park today at 5. We'll talk there. I have a feeling that we'll be able to come to a compromise and help each other out. Oh, and come alone. I don't want your warlock/warewolf possé to come with you."
Before I could ask him about how he knew about all of this, the bell rang. Students filed out of the room immediately and just as I was about to do the same Mason removed the knife from in between his fingers and jammed it in between mine on the table. Just like me, he was confident about his weapon too. I didn't even get a scratch.
Mason then leaned in really close so that our noses were touching and I could feel his hot breath.
"I'll see you when I see you, Isabella Crawford."
And in the blink of an eye, he was out the class.
Oh dear.
