swinging in the backyard
pull up in your fast car whistling my name
open up a beer
and you say, "get over here," and play a video game
i'm in his favorite sun dress
watching me get undressed, take that body downtown
i say, "you da bestest"
lean in for a big kiss, put his favorite perfume on
"go play your video game"
it's you, it's you, it's all for you
everything i do
i tell you all the time
heaven is a place on earth with you
tell me all the things you want to do
i heard that you like the bad girls, honey, is that true?
it's better than i ever even knew
they say that the world was built for two
only worth living if somebody is loving you
and baby, now you do
singing in the old bars
swinging with the old stars
living for the fame
kissing in the blue dark
playing pool and wild darts
video games
he holds me in his big arms
drunk and i am seeing stars
this is all i think of
watching all our friends fall
in and out of old paul's
this is my idea of fun
playing video games
it's you, it's you, it's all for you
everything i do
i tell you all the time
heaven is a place on earth with you
tell me all the things you want to do
i heard that you like the bad girls, honey, is that true?
it's better than i ever even knew
they say that the world was built for two
only worth living if somebody is loving you
baby now you do (now you do)
it's you, it's you, it's all for you
everything i do
i tell you all the time
heaven is a place on earth with you
tell me all the things you want to do
i heard that you like the bad girls, honey, is that true?
it's better than i ever even knew
they say that the world was built for two
only worth living if somebody is loving you
baby, now you do
(now you do, now you do, now you do)
now you do
(now you do, now you do, now you do)
she looked at herself in the mirror, adjusting the little stray strands of her black hair away from her face for the fifth time within the last five minutes, then tugging on the sleeves of her denim jacket and the hem of her favorite dress which was gifted by the person she was going out with tonight for her sixteenth birthday last year.
it was light shade of pink ending right above her knees. a tad bit loose at the chest area, tight around the waist and flowed with her every move, seemingly lightweight. white and lighter pink flowers littered it, along with red strawberries. it fit her so perfectly and everyone who saw her in it became enamoured with the girl nick named baby.
next she grabbed his favorite perfume on her from her vanity. the heavy crystal-like glass bottle's edges reflected and sent dull beams of rainbow light all across her room. she spritzed some on her neck and pulse points, its familiar smell wafting throughout the room.
the fragrance of vanilla and roses and a hint of something that she couldn't quite put her finger on were dancing around her. muted to just the right amount where it was neither overwhelming nor underwhelming. she loved it, and he did as well.
her phone suddenly dinged, a text message coming though the smartphone.
she picked it up with cold and clammy hands before checking who sent her the message "i'm outside already. you almost ready?"
she didn't bother replying to the text from her boyfriend. instead, she grabbed her matching pink mini bag from her bed and shoved the phone in there along with her wallet and keys before basically flying down the staircase.
she took her heeled sandals from the shoe rack with shaky hands, fumbling with it to adjust the straps that was around her pale ankles but failing, the excitement pumping through her nerves getting the best of her.
with a frustrated huff, she let her arms fall to her sides before trying again, eyebrows furrowed and with laser focus, taking her time this time around.
a satisfied smile painted themselves on her pink glossy lips as she was able to do it, proudly standing up and heading to the door with her chin up.
she locked it as there was no else in the house, her parents and little brother having gone to an amusement park with her other family members to celebrate a birthday of an aunt whom she has never met before. as always, she was left out. this time the excuse was she had to go to school, even though her parents was able to excuse her brother from his grade three class.
not that she minded. at this point, she was already used to it and at least now she could hang out with kenny whenever and however long they both wanted to.
"baby" he still said her name softly, with such warmth and love and it made her heart skip a beat. they have been together for roughly two years now but their desire for each other, each other's company and attention was unceasing.
he was leaning on his car with his arms crossed on his chest before she ran to him full speed. now it was around her, strong arms pulling her close to him so she was flush again him, no space between them and her arms were around his neck, crushing herself to his front. face buried deep between the junction that connected his shoulders to his neck.
her hands absentmindedly wandered to the back of his head, playing with the unruly blonde curls that rested there making him sigh contentedly while she breathed in his scent.
his perfume and clean smelling body wash and faint traces of a fruity sports drink, a blue raspberry one, to be exact all meshing wonderfully together to form a smell that was so distinctly him. he smelled like home to her, to put it simply.
they finally pulled away, loving and passionate eyes looking deeply into each other's and smiles on their faces.
kenny's hand wandered to hers, clutching it in his. they were way bigger than her dainty hands and complete opposites. his were big and calloused from the sports that he played, nails short. hers was small and soft and radiating warmth that kenny never got sick of. pink painted nails a tad bit long, just to the length that she liked it.
he raised it up and she spun under their arms, the skirt of her dress forming a circle around her, a small breeze forming as she moved before he pulled her back to him and kissed her temple.
"missed you" she muttered with utter sincerity, having not seen him for a week now. him having to visit his grandmother throughout the said week, a family man, he is.
he agreed, pressing a hum against the top of her head as he buried himself into her hair with a smile. "missed you too baby"
with that they walked to the other side of his car, he opened up the door for her and she climbed in adjusting her dress once she was seated and put her seat belt on.
he went in shortly after her, one hand on the steering wheel and one enclosed around hers, slowly rubbing invincible circles on it before pressing a kiss to her knuckles making her flush red and driving off.
"so how was your grandmother?" she said, voice tender and curious while she was looking at him.
her eyes traced the way the haphazard-looking curls of his blonde hair framed his face so perfectly, the perfect shade of blue of his eyes, the straight and strong slope of his nose and the flawless cupid's bow of his lips, a light shade of pink morphing into white as he caught it between his teeth when he bit it glancing at her for a second when he answered.
"she's well, lovely as ever" he nodded before continuing "she-she misses you, first thing she said when she saw me was asking where you were. i'm starting to think that they like you more than they like me." he chuckled, shaking his head knowing full well how much his family loved her.
she met them a few days after their first year anniversary and baby being well, baby, she was nervous as ever. worried that they wouldn't approve of her and making her and kenny split but all that worry was all for nothing, they soon found out. they loved her almost as much as kenny did. they thought they were a perfect match and they liked the idea of kenny being with such a nice and kind girl like her for the rest of their lives.
she snorted at what kenny said, mimicking his actions and shaking her head at his words as well. "that's nonsense kenny, and you know it. i see the way your family looks at you, the way your sister looks at you. they absolutely adore you, kenny."
he pressed his lips together, intently staring at the dark road only lit by the car's headlights. "and do you?"
she quirked an eyebrow at him. "do i what?"
his hand clutched hers a tiny bit tighter. "adore me?"
a smooth pickup line if it came from someone else but from kenny, someone who was so self-assured in everything else that he did but the slightest bit insecure about their relationship, thinking that baby was way too good for him, she knew she had to say just the right words.
her eyes smiled as she stared at him, kenny who tried his best to not meet her eyes and focusing on the road he was so familiar with he could drive across with his eyes closed trying to find the right words to say and he could tell the way the gears were turning in her head in the way the corner of her eyes crinkled and slight creases in her forehead formed.
"adore.. doesn't even begin to describe the way i feel for you, kenny"
he smiled at that, a small content one stretching against his face and he visibly relaxed. a sigh of relief escaping his lips and color seeping into his hand again after he was gripping the steering wheel so tight his knuckles turned white.
baby leaned back into her seat, looking at the foliage around them through the window. "so are you planning to tell me where we're going or are you just gonna sit all cute and quiet like that?"
pink pigmentation slowly rushed to kenny's neck up to his face at the subtle compliment, clearly flustered. he cleared his throat, "some place i came across while on that trip last week. you'll love it, baby, i promise."
they stayed quiet after that, swimming in comfortable silence and simply being with each other after seven days of only having phone calls and facetimes be the only method of communication between them, being with together in the same room was something they took for granted on some days, for sure.
they were just basking in the ambiance, letting the melody of some lana del rey song faintly playing on the radio be the only sound in the car, so low in the background that they could barely hear it.
after a few minutes of humming to the songs that played on the radio, the car halted in the parking lot of a building with lots of neon signs, very aesthetically pleasing with different colors and designs to giving off a very lively vibe and baby's eyes were drawn to the biggest one, front and center that read "skip's house of fun".
kenny got out of the car and jogged over to the other side to open the door for baby and he put his hand out for her to grab and she gets out.
she smiled at him before stepping out of the car and into the rocky flooring of the parking lot, still holding onto his hand.
the many neon lights that decorated the black painted building contrasted the dark landscape of winnipeg at seven pm and it made for quite a view and everyone with half a brain cell agreed.
plenty children as well as teenagers around their age would usually be there, having fun and taking pictures but tonight there was another amusement establishment that had just opened a number of nights before that was located a few minutes away, not very far so they were all there instead of their usual hangout spot so it was the perfect night for the introverted couple to have a date there as it was way less crowded than it would have been a month before.
they entered hand in hand and what greeted them made their smiles bigger as kenny's eyes drifted to baby's face to capture the moment and the sparkle in her pretty brown eyes, taking a mental picture of the sight.
there were more neon lights, enough to make it bright even without normal lights, a few employees were scattered, cleaning up and making sure that the building was in order in general but nothing too much.
there were a plentiful number of arcade and modernized carnival games, ranging from pacman to ice ball (baby's favorite) to dance dance revolution to ice hockey. obviously, every teenager's dream.
there were also different kinds of photo booths lined up at a darker sectioned area of the place and a dimly lit hallway to take pictures with prettier neon backgrounds. they could spot a green dinosaur and some writing in japanese from where they were.
finally, a food court on the right side of the "house of fun" serving a number of food items including caramel popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs and the likes.
baby was practically bouncing on her heels, resembling a child who has consumed too much sugar as she looked back up at kenny, her smile so big at he was getting worried that it might just rip through her face.
"where'd you wanna go first?" he asked as he let go of her hand so she could lead them to wherever she desired and as he expected, she went to the arcade part first, specifically, in front of the ice ball machines.
she crossed her arms over her chest, a confident smirk on her lips as she grinned at him. "bet you can't score more tickets than me" she challenged him.
kenny hunched over and laughed clutching his stomach dramatically. "okay baby, that's funny. challenge accepted!" he mockingly grinned at her as he (over)confidently strutted to the worker selling the tokens and bought a few.
they both put on their game faces as they were both very competitive individuals as they put the token in the slot and tried their best to win over the other.
after many sliding "ice balls" (as well as "accidental" hitting of each other's arm and bumping into one another conveniently when they're about to slide the ball) later, it was the moment of truth, tickets zooming out of the ticket slot seemingly in slow motion as they crossed their fingers that they've got the upper hand over the other but at the end, kenny's rope of tickets halted while baby's were still going.
she let out a yell of victory, pumping her fist in the air as she did so although she wasn't really surprised, it was her favorite game, after all.
"i told you so" she sang in a sing-song voice sticking her tongue out at kenny when her tickets finally stopped as well, enthusiastically ripping it out of the slot.
"i said it before and i'll say it again, i'm the master of the ice ball" she laughed as she stood on her tippy toes and booped kenny's nose making him playfully glare at her and trying to bite her finger.
"hmm, you never were a gracious loser weren't you mister track and field varsity" she tilted her head at him before continuing. "and since i'm such an amazing girlfriend, i'll let you choose the next game."
kenny's smirk grew at her words, his plan falling perfectly into place (because he knew that there he had no hope in winning ice ball if it was against his girlfriend). "you're too easy baby" he shook his head before turning his back towards her and heading to an arcade machine that baby could never in a million years beat him at, a game she watched him play while in his house hundreds and hundreds of times while she leaned her head on his shoulder, eyes wide in awe.
street fighter.
and at that moment baby knew she was in for an unforgettable night and she couldn't help but thank her family for leaving her alone so she would be able to spend this night with kenny.
