it has been a long day for you. not only have you been busy, it is a pay-per-view day after all, so everyone was busy, but it also seemed like today, whatever can go wrong will go wrong.

for one, you got stuck in traffic which then lead to you missing your flight, and if there was something you hated, it's being late -- that was something you two had in common. now because of this, you also landed in chicago very late.

thankfully, you were already quite close friends with the bucks so the moment where you texted them that you might not make it in time for the beginning  of the pay-per-view could have gone more awkward.

and if you weren't late then, the taxi driver driving you to the hotel got lost as well. you spent forty minutes circling the area for the hotel when it should have just been twenty.

the day has barely started, but you were already spent, both physically and mentally.

much to your gratitude, you didn't encounter any loss of direction or traffic when you were being driven to the arena, and you were even more thankful to the fact that even if you had arrived late, the women's casino battle royale that you were set to participate in has not started yet. you wouldn't know what to do with yourself if you didn't make it. you weren't doing so well in the division lately, your win-loss record looking unimpressive and non intimidating, you've lost your last five matches in under fifteen minutes. you looked at this battle royale as redemption, to prove that you were truly as elite as the other women in the aew locker room.

though the pay-per-view has already started, there was still a few more matches before yours begun so this meant that you had a pretty sufficient amount of time to prepare.

even if it proved to be challenging, you didn't let the irritating events that transpired earlier negatively affect your mindset. instead, you used it as fuel to help your fire rage on. you stretched and mentally prepared yourself as usual, making sure that you were not only in good physical shape, but also in absolutely the best headspace to win the battle royale, get the chance to have a match with britt baker, and ultimately win the aew women's championship.

much like the other women that night, you didn't engage in a lot of conversation. you were just focused on winning that match, and winning that match only. it didn't matter that you asked adam to be there, but he said he was too busy that he couldn't. nevermind that. win or lose, he would probably invite you to facetime, where he would either celebrate with you, or comfort you while you stuffed your face with ice cream in defeat.

and it seemed that the latter was going to be the one that will happen because you didn't win.

figuratively, it's because ruby soho had too much momentum behind her, basically having the crowd in the palm of her hands, but in a literal sense, you had too much momentum behind you. when she was staggered and only holding on the ropes after you delivered a picture perfect panama sunrise, you ran at her with all that you had, arm outstretched as you were planning to clothesline her out of the ring, she ducked, pulling the top rope down with her. you couldn't stop yourself or even slow down and you tumbled out of the ring, hitting your head on the apron while you're at it.

rick knox seeing this quickly rushed over to you to see if you were okay, and in a way, you were, but in another way, you weren't. this was supposed to be your night. you spent so much effort and energy to better yourself so when you got the opportunity to prove yourself, you'd be able to do it, yet when the opportunity presented itself in the form of your match tonight, you just couldn't capitalize on it and everything felt like it went down the drain.

despite losing, you were able to put on showstopping spots throughout the match. you were for sure going to be on the highlight reel many times. you were able to prove that you deserved the title of all elite, but you weren't able to prove that you deserved the title of aew's women's champion. that left a bad taste in your mouth.

the people in front of you cheering your name and clapping while ruby's song played in the background is a bittersweet melody to hear.

you stumbled backstage to resounding claps from your peers, but really, you just wanted to soak adam's t-shirt with salty tears and watch a movie. nevertheless, you smiled at them and shook their hands, offering a hug to your closest friends. they knew how much this meant to you.

you took your time showering and changing. you saw no need to do it quickly. ruby was most likely getting interviewed about her win and that really wasn't something you wanted to hear. you didn't want to hear the words you planned on saying if you won coming out of her mouth.

the locker room was now filled with many women once you came out. one of them being the red-headed runaway herself. when she spotted you, she speed-walked over with a smile and offered a hand for you to shake. you returned the smile - although not as wide as hers - and shook her hand graciously. "congratulations." she thanked you, saying that you put on one heck of a fight and she'd love to face you again someday. you bit your tongue, fighting the urge to tell her that it didn't matter. it didn't matter how big of a fight you put up, or how strong and tough you were because you still lost. you didn't want to be rude though, and it's not like you have a personal problem with her so you just nodded and thanked her.

after that, you got out of the locker room. you didn't have the energy to deal with small talk or your friends saying you'll get it next time. you did know that they meant no harm when they said that, but it didn't make the sting hurt less.

wrestlers and other backstage personnel were huddled around the monitors all around the backstage area, but luckily, you found one where there wasn't any people around so you stuck around there, trying to enjoy the rest of the pay-per-view in peace. the night may not have worked out for you, but it was still a night to remember for many reasons and to many people.

over time, your sour mood lifted, but not to the point of willingly wanting to socialize with anyone another than your boyfriend so you stayed in your corner, occasionally leaving to go to the comfort room, or to pick something up from catering. your friends all gave you sympathetic smiles when they passed you by and your frustration has calmed down to the point where you can flash genuine smiles back at them.

finally, it was time for the main event. kenny omega vs christian cage. the wrestling fan in you was excited for the match. you clapped your hands when kenny came out and unconsciously sat at the edge of the crate you were sitting on once the bell rung.

the match, as everyone has expected, was amazing. these were two great athletes who you thought probably needed more effort to execute a bad match than to execute a good one. there were many near falls and spots that had you slapping the space next to you and making sounds of shock and disbelief when at last, kenny hit the one winged angel from the top rope and it was all she wrote. no one kicks out of the one winged angel -- unless you went by the name kota ibushi, that is.

a few minutes later, chaos was unleashed in the ring. you couldn't help but mutter what the- when kenny said something you couldn't quite pick up and a new, but still familiar song rang through the arena's speakers.

you know it's all about tha boom! adam cole baybay

you couldn't help but stand up, eyes as wide as saucers and a hand over your mouth when your boyfriend made an appearance, strutting down the ramp as if he wasn't the new guy in the company. in a flash, tay conti as well as anna jay, two friend of yours was beside you looking equally as shocked. "did he tell you?" "did you have any idea about this?"

you could just barely shake your head at their words, too stunned to do anything. "he told me he was busy. i asked him to come here to support me but he was busy."

the wrestling fan in you marked out in full force when bryan danielson came out to even the odds against the elite, and before you could process anything, you were waving goodbye to your friends and sprinting down to the gorilla position.

your timing was perfect. the elite, jurassic express, and bryan danielson just went through the curtains when you reached your destination allowing you to jump into your boyfriend's arms smoothly, without having to stop. his arms instinctively went around you, but he struggled to stabilize your momentum as you knocked into him. kenny and nick had to catch him and offer a boost before he tumbled backwards.

"eager, are we?" he grinned at you, making the already prominent apples of his cheeks pop out even more.

"missed you," you murmured as he set you down on the floor, tenderly and softly caging your face in his large hands to press a kiss onto your awaiting, puckered lips. as he did this, you continued leaning into his embrace and pressing yourself into his warmth, not leaving an ounce of space between you two -- after the day you've had, that was the last thing you wanted. his hand trailed from your cheeks, down your sides, to your stomach where his magnetic blue eyes were drawn to a bruise you sustained because of the match you were in earlier that was exposed because your shirt had ridden up. his finger lightly traced over the purple shadow before they were finally around your waist.

your head was against his chest listening to his rapid heartbeat. now that you were firmly on the ground and his arms surrounded your frame, you noticed that he was shaking as well. his debut clearly affected him as much as it affected the crowd, as much as it affected you.

you pressed a tender kiss to his chest and smiled fondly up at him, your hands reaching up to run through his mildly wet hair when all of a sudden, you grabbed a handful of it and tugged with a bit of force -- not too much where it hurt him, but enough for him to know it wasn't a friendly gesture.

"i thought you weren't going to make it cause you're busy?" you questioned him, eyes narrowed and accusing.

adam could only stutter out responses as his buddies snickered from behind you.
