another tour, another number of weeks without kenny. this one was on the longer, worse side though. after a year of being the best bout machine's significant other, sunshine was all too used to it at this point, but not used to it at all at the same time, if that made any sense, she's seemed to give up all hope on making things make sense at this point.
not being besides kenny when she went to sleep and woke up became more and more of a frequent happening as his fame grew and she's proud of him, she's happy for him and she will always support him and his wrestling, but it never gets any easier for either of them.
since the time her and kenny has been together, he's been her muse for the new novel she was working on and now that he's been gone for god knows how long (she actually does know, down to the hour but he, or anybody else for that matter, didn't need to know that) her inspiration bar was dwindling down by the minute, yet the deadline for chapter fourteen was only getting closer and closer. she has only gotten started on chapter ten. this once-upon-a-time hobby of hers was proving to be more of a difficult task than what she had originally expected.
a glass of red wine was filled to the brim in her hand as she stared at the empty document on her laptop for about an hour now, her other hand roughly pulling at her hair with a few strings of profanities out of her mouth, the ponytail coming lose, a few strands coming to her face and obscured her view: another thing that didn't help with her annoyance.
rewriting and erasing another line she just couldn't get right, sunshine grew frustrated and emotional, gulping down half the wine glass' contents. she slammed the laptop shut, tucking it under her arm and marched to the bedroom, red wine still in her hand.
sunshine plopped the expensive glass on the bedside table as gently as she could given her frustrated state, turned on the smart tv there and sifted through all the material available until she finally saw what it was that she sought, new japan world. surely watching kenny's latest match will inspire her enough to be able to help her finish this chapter, surely.
her plan backfired and not even half the match in, she was met with tears and blurry eyes as she watched her boyfriend complete against tomohiro ishii. maybe she missed him more than what she originally thought.
every part of her longed for him.
his touch: the way his hands felt when he was kneading her flesh, the way his hands felt when he cupped her cheek, the way his body warmed hers when he would hug her.
his presence: his intoxicating aura when they were in the same room, the way that even if they have been together for such a long time, he still gave her butterflies when he would stare into her eyes, the way kenny could light up her entire day just by seeing him smile at her.
his sound: his raspy voice when he greeted her a good morning when they woke up in the same bed, his belly laugh when she told him a joke (that she honestly didn't was that good but hey if kenny liked it, she wasn't complaining), his yelling and cursing at the monitor when the video game he was playing didn't go his way.
anything. she would settle for anything right now, but she knew she wouldn't be able to get that until after a few more days.
she could feel her chest be engulfed by the passionate fire of longing as she huffed out another sob. reaching for the remote, she paused the match trying to keep her composure together, furiously wiping at her eyes as the tears continued to flow down. the void in her heart felt tight, like she was being suffocated and it ached even more. she could feel its rawness slashing through her chest and ripping at the bloodied edges, she pulled her knees to her chest to try and keep herself together, desperate to not let fragments of her get away because fragments of her, are also fragments of kenny.
after (more than) a few minutes of moping, sunshine sat up on the bed, leaning back on the headrest and gulped down the rest of the red wine, slouched and with sad eyes, before pulling her laptop to her lap and furiously writing away.
was the emotional pain watching the match brought on worth it to gain inspiration to write? she wasn't really sure but she's sure not gonna waste the boost of creativity and inspiration.
after hours of writing while crying, countless wine refills, and typing and retyping the dialogue to get it just right, she's finally made it to the oh-so desired chapter fourteen but it was also safe to say that sunshine was completely and utterly emotionally and mentally exhausted, nevertheless, she was glad to be able to get some emotions out of her system. she really wasn't a fan of the person she turned into when she bottles all her negative emotions up.
slightly more content than how she was during the beginning of the day, sunshine set her laptop beside her, shutting it down and then adjusting her position to a more comfortable one and facing the windows before falling asleep.
given her tired state, it did not take a long time for sleep to overcome her and in sunshine's dreams, her and kenny were together in short bursts of memories she was most fond of, the ones that seemed so near yet never within her reach.
looking at the view from the tokyo dome hotel on the first time kenny brought her to japan, thinking he was still doing press conferences when he suddenly walked up behind her, suit jacket freshly discarded and wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his head in the crook of her shoulder. "i wouldn't be here today without your support. i love you, sunshine. thank you." she wordlessly buried her hand into his hair as he let out a contented sigh, pressing a kiss so gentle on her shoulder blade that she could barely made it out.
her laying on kenny's chest when they both couldn't sleep so they just decided to talk about whatever the night and early morning brings on. seeing the color yellow reminds him of her. he's been reading her work since her very first published poetry book. he thinks if writing didn't work out for her, she has potential in the music field. "i don't know, sunshine. i meet new people everyday but you still remain to be the most interesting one of them all."
kenny staring at her intently while she works on her books or anything else. eyes soft and the corner of his lips upturned. sunshine catching him but he doesn't look away. instead he makes eye contact, blue eyes meeting desirablly welcoming brown ones and his smile gets bigger. "sometimes i just want to get a peek into your mind, sunshine. i wanna see what's going on up there." she was glad that he couldn't. ninety nine percent of the things that takes up space in her mind is him, he lived rent free.
her staring at kenny when he was asleep and she wasn't able to do so. she wasn't as bold as him and she couldn't let herself get caught. tracing his features with her eyes, as if he was leaving tomorrow (and a lot of the time he did, wrestler duty calls) occasionally doing it with her fingertip. loving the way he smiled in his sleep at her touch. she doesn't know if he knows that it's her touching him, but she had a feeling in her gut that he, subconsciously, did. who knows, maybe he was pretending to sleep to get her to touch him like that. sunshine would love that.
how his body feels next to her in their bed, radiating warmth. big, muscular arms around her. it was strong and well-built but also soft and comfortable for sunshine to melt and snuggle further in to. sunshine has never felt more safe and secure knowing she was with kenny. it wasn't a matter of "kenny can protect me if bad guys come", but more so, "i can brave all storms that are heading my way as long as i have kenny by my side" and that was more important to sunshine than anything.
she remembered in vivid detail how his full lips felt when he did that, and how her heart fluttered every single time. the way he would start at the middle of her back, trailing up with kisses, the top of her back, the lower part of the back of her neck, pressing a longer kiss on the back of her neck before making its way to the side of her neck, going up until he reached her cheek. how she would turn her head to the side so he'll be able to reach her lips and smile through their kiss.
she remembered it clearly, so clearly that, unlike her other memories. she could actually feel his arms around her, pulling her body against his, making sure that there was no space between them.
without warning, her eyes fluttered open and she immediately squinted them as they felt puffy and uncomfortable.
this was before she was pulled back into reality, looking down at her waist and seeing a familiar looking arm wrapped around it. at this, her eyes grew wide, the fact that they felt weird entirely forgotten, she turned around in kenny's arms before practically tackling him into a hug with the full force of her body weight.
sunshine crushed him into her, as if using his body in order to fill up the void in her chest that opened up earlier. she knew that the void wasn't physically possible, yet she definitely felt it earlier, but not anymore.
not that her kenny was there.
kenny reciprocated the hug, crushing her into him just as tight. usually he would be more careful as to not accidentally hurt her, with the way that she buried every inch of herself in the dips of his muscular chest though, he knew she needed the bone-crushing hug after the soul-crushing time they've been apart.
when they pulled away, sunshine's hand went to kenny's cheek and he leaned into her touch, closing his eyes. "i thought you still had a week and four days to spend in there?" she queried him. a week, four days and twenty hours, to be exact.
kenny raised an eyebrow at her, jokingly asking "do you want me to go back?"
"no!" was sunshine's response, spoken not a second after kenny uttered those words and hand gripping at his face slightly as if to make him not be able to get away.
he chuckled, gently murmuring "just kidding, sunshine" with a pet of her hair. he knew just how to comfort her.
he took the moment of silence to fully take in her appearance. hair messy from sleep and marks on her arms and legs caused by the disheveled sheets. he liked what he saw, it was something he missed dearly, seeing her in the moments where she had just woken up. he wished that someday, this would always be the first view he would see when he opened his eyes in the morning, not the generic hotel paintings he saw on a day-to-day basis. something he didn't like though, was her puffy, red eyes, frowning slightly.
sunshine quickly saw this change in his expression, "is there something on my face?"
"you've been crying, sunshine?"
she bit her lip looking away, before his hand led her wandering cheek so she can look him in the eyes. "what's been bothering you?"
sunshine tried to think of another thing to say to kenny, not wanting him to feel bad because his absence was the reason for her shed tears. she forgot though, that kenny knew her like the back of his hand.
"tell me the truth. i wanna know what's been bothering my sunshine."
the way he looked at her with those eyes and the way my sunshine rolled off of his tongue should have been illegal. how could she refuse? how could she lie? she's convinced that he could get anything he wanted and get away with anything if he pulled those eyes at everyone. she thought it was downright unfair of him, to be honest.
"was just missing you" she chewed on her lip, studying his face for any reaction and it was immediate. the lively blue of his eyes that she loved so much getting dull and a frown on his lips. "you were crying because of me?"
sunshine thought of a better way to say it, "not you kenny.. just... how much i've been missing you." she said keeping her voice light and adding "please don't beat yourself up over it."
kenny just sighed at that. "it doesn't get any easier, doesn't it?" he trailed off making her nod agreeing with him. "it really doesn't."
he was silent for a moment before speaking again. "am i really worth it, sunshine?"
sunshine hated the self doubt that was laced in his voice and the way it shook. "of course you are kenny. i'd move heaven and earth for you, a little distance isn't going to get in our way."
he sucked in a breath. "that's the point though, it's not just 'a little distance'"
"okay then, no amount of distance, no matter how big or small is going to get in our way." she corrected herself but kenny still wasn't budging.
"do you still love me the same? if this continues for more years, would you still love me the same?"
"i wouldn't, kenny-"
kenny shut his eyes tightly feeling his heart clench at her words and tears build up in his eyes but he knew the truth. if it came down to sunshine or wrestling, he would choose sunshine.
"-i wouldn't love you the same because everyday, whether we're together or apart, my love for you grows stronger. if you continue touring like this for ten more years, i would still love you. twenty years, i would still love you. thirty years, i would still love you. you will always have me." she finished making kenny chuckle.
"you almost broke my heart there, sunshine." he lowly said, still not looking at her.
when he met her eyes, he now had a smile on. "how about forty years?" he jokingly asked as sunshine bursted out into a fit of giggles.
"i don't think you grasp how much of a fool i am for you."
