the recipe sitting on the kitchen counter was read and re-read by you a couple of times, partially because of the man beside you. kenny was practically a child hyped up on sugar, bouncing on his heels and complaining about how long it took you to make sure that all your ingredients were complete. you reminded him that the more time he distracts you, the more time you guys won't get to baking - the thing that he's so excited about - and that did the trick. he has now gotten a lot quieter and let you focus on making sure you had everything needed for the recipe, although you can still see the impatient tapping of his foot from the corner of your eye.

after you were done checking everything out, you clapped your hands - after all, you were excited for this too - and announced that you had all the things you needed and could finally get to baking and the food item that you and kenny agreed to bake were cute little halloween themed cake pops, ones with little monster faces.

while you asked kenny to preheat the oven, you grabbed all the ingredients that you needed for the first step, those being pudding mix, cake mix, eggs, water, and oil, then put them all into a big mixing bowl.

when kenny turned around from the oven to see you cracking an egg, and all the dry ingredients already in the bowl, he pouted and sluggishly walked over to you, wrapping his big arms around your frame and leaning some of his body weight into you. "you got started without me, baby?" he mumbled into your neck, placing kisses where his lips met your skin.

you smiled at your boyfriend's cuddliness, snuggling back at him. "there's still a lot of steps you can help me with, ken." you hummed out, reaching behind you and running your hand through his curls, then offering a few small pats for comfort.

"yeah, but mixing it in and everything is the best part." the pout prominent on his pink lips only deepened as he turned you around in his arms so you were facing each other. you stood on your tippy toes to kiss the jut right off of his lips. "i haven't even mixed it in yet, you big baby." you said, lips not separated from his just yet. he only let out a tiny mmm in response. he pulled you aside so you were still within the cage that is his arms, but were no longer blocking the mixing bowl. "i guess you're right." he grabbed the electric mixer that sat on the counter before turning it on to begin incorporating everything in.

you enjoyed and basked in the comfortable silence that being with him brought, the only sound in the room was his quiet humming that resembled the tune of a song you couldn't quite put your finger on, but you cherished the memory all the same. every now and then, his body pressed into yours would move from left to right and you would follow his movements, swaying with him to the song he made up as you barely made out the sound of birds chirping outside, and water flowing from a river near your shared home.

when you noticed that kenny was done with his mixing duty, the batter now looking homogeneous, you wriggled your way out of his grip and grabbed the nonstick spray and sheet cake pan to coat it so that once you bake the cake in it, there wouldn't be any problems getting it out.

kenny calling out your name made you look up at him. "this already looks good, right?" he asked for confirmation, slightly tilting the bowl to your side so you'd be able to give your opinion based on the look of the mixture. you clicked your tongue, nodding. "yeah, that already looks good. we don't want to over mix it, so that should be enough." you said as you waved him off.

he glanced at you, and when you returned it, you noticed that while he had white cake mix all over his red shirt, he still had his hands on his hips and a bright smile on his face. "okay, what's the next step?"

"we gotta transfer that-" you pointed to the contents of the bowl in front of him, "-here." you gestured to the now-oiled up tin in your hand.

you held the pan around the sides in order to keep it steady while he poured in the mix which already smelled delightful and tempting. the only thing that kept you from running a finger through it and getting a taste is the fact that there's raw eggs in it well, that and kenny catching your wrist anytime it wanders over to the sweet-smelling bowl.

after that, you lightly dropped the pan onto the smooth marble counter a couple of times just to get rid of the air bubbles in the mixture before setting it into the oven to bake for thirty five minutes.

while you waited, you decided to be a bit productive and started to put some of the dirty dishes you've used into the sink and wash them, but as you were doing so, you suddenly felt something wet and cold graze your shoulder. it turns out, you were so preoccupied with your washing that you didn't even notice kenny sneaking up behind you and cracking an egg on your shoulder.

you stared up at him in disbelief, your mouth wide open. the whole time, a shit-eating grin was plastered on his face. he shrugged at you, "sorry babe, just thought that you were so hot i could cook an egg on you but," he glanced at the egg, now dripping down your shirt, leaving a trail of yellow yolk and an unpleasant smell behind. "i was wrong, apparently. guess you're not that hot after all." the grin he was flashing at you widened.

"you're an asshole." you grumbled before turning around and walking out of the kitchen to grab a change of clothes. as you were climbing up the flight of stairs, you heard kenny say "i'll rinse the rest of these dishes! love you!" from the room you were just in.

now clad in a clean, pleasant-smelling, non egg stained shirt, you came downstairs to see kenny leaned against the sink, and much like he promised, washing the dishes.

you walked over to the oven to check how much time was left on the timer and once you realized there was still quite a bit of time left - fifteen minutes, to be exact - you silently walked to where your boyfriend was and wrapped your arms around his frame, leaning the side of your head on his back.

the feeling of him melting into your embrace made you smile. you wordlessly started to sway from side to side, swaying him with you.

soon enough, he was done so he turned around and wrapped his - thankfully dry - arms around you as well. your arms now moved to loop around his neck, and his were looped around your waist, pulling you closer. he rested his head on the top of yours, but not before he pressed a tender kiss there. "see? maybe me cracking an egg on you was a blessing in disguise. if i didn't do that, then you wouldn't have went upstairs and we wouldn't be dancing like an old married couple right now." you could practically hear the amused smile in his voice. you didn't know if that was because you knew him so well, or because he was just so giddy and happy about what he did.

much to his displeasure, you only deadpanned as you stared up at him. "kenny i smell like raw eggs."

he smirked leaning down so his mouth was right by your ear. you could feel his warm breath tickling your sensitive neck. "we could always fix that, baby. we can take a nice little bath after this..." he trailed off. his hands were roaming your arms, tracing circles and imaginary pictures into your skin. "what'd you say?"

the intimate moment you were sharing was busted the moment the timer went off and started to ring its familiar chime. the sudden noise made the two of you jump and you to step away from him.

you cleared your throat, straightening out the wrinkles on your shirt. "as appealing as that sounds, kenneth. i believe that earlier, you said i wasn't hot. i wouldn't want to inconvenience you with us showering together." you winked at him, walking over to where the cake was baking, putting on your potholders, and taking the hot baked good out of the oven and onto the counter.

you dashed over to the kitchen table just a room away to grab a single toothpick, then you poked the cake with the toothpick to see if it was ready. much to your delight, once you pulled it away, it came out clean. the cake was perfectly cooked.

you looked away from the clean toothpick just in time to see kenny setting the recipe book down on the table and glancing at you. "we're just supposed to wait for it to cool down now." he said as he walked over to you, wrapping his arms around you like how it was before you were interrupted.

"i never said you weren't hot, babe. i just said you weren't hot enough to cook an egg on," he started to kiss up your neck, but you pushed him away. "i haven't taken a bath yet after you cracked the egg on me so you probably shouldn't do that, unless you wanna get salmonella." you teasingly smiled at him, breaking out of his grip to sit on the counter in front of the one he was currently leaning on.

he shook his head at himself, mumbling "i knew i should have just threw flour at you or something."

it made you laugh at him. you cocked your head as you left him with a suggestion, "better luck next time, lover boy."

he crossed the gap separating you two in one big stride. "oh you bet, sweetheart. lover boy doesn't make the same mistake twice. fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you." he smirked before gently cradling your face in his hands and pressing a kiss on your lips. he's no getting salmonella from this kiss.

him nibbling on your lower lip made you gasp, much to his delight, but as soon as he tried to slip his tongue in your mouth, you pushed him away and jumped off of the counter. "we've been waiting long enough. i think the cake has cooled down now."

you washed your hands, then patted them off with a towel, throwing kenny an amused smirk when you caught him staring at you with a blank, dumbfounded stare.

then you walked over to where the cake was. you briskly put a hand over it, just to get a feel of the temperature, if it was already somewhat cool to the touch. and it was.

before you could even utter a single word, you felt yourself getting pushed to the side, and it made you stumble over your own two feet. kenny snuck up beside you. the man had nudged you hard with his hip, a breadknife in his hand. "fuck around and find out, babe. i'm doing the next step." he grumbled, cutting the cake in half. one half of the baked good was stored in an airtight container for future use, and the other one remained in the pan to be crumbled into bits by the man you called your boyfriend.

while he was busy with that step, you already started with the next one which was making the frosting that would hold the crumbled cake bits together when they were formed into balls. you grabbed all the ingredients that the recipe called for, putting them into a mixing bowl and carefully incorporating everything until they were well combined.

by the time you were done, the cake was already completely crumbled. there were no longer any big chunks that remained. kenny was sat in front of you, phone in hand as he was reading funny tweets in his mentions to you -- they were mostly hate tweets, but at this point, he's gotten pretty numb to it and just finds them funny, and you do too, as long as they don't cross the line.

"hand me the pan, yeah?" you interrupted him with a soft voice, pointing to the tin across from you that held the cake crumbs. kenny obliged as he finished off reading another tweet that had him clutching his stomach and wiping tears out of his eyes in laughter.

"if anything, i'm just glad they're being more creative. the haruka and blow up doll match is overused." he shrugged making you let out a giggle. "you're such an inspiration, kenny. everyday you inspire these people who have no lives to think outside of the box when insulting you." you stopped pouring the frosting into the cake for a second while you sarcastically put a hand over your chest in faux admiration.

"do you want to help me form them?" you asked him, an eyebrow raised and he grinned at you, nodding enthusiastically. "duh!"

it made you smile. "grab two tablespoons then. it'll help us make sure that everything's the same size and stuff."

he did what you asked, setting them both down on the counter right in front of you, then proceeded to waltz over to the vinyl record in the corner of the room and turn it on. the familiar melody of the first track on his favorite album made a smile grace your lips as you unconsciously moved your hips to the catchy beat.

the sight that kenny turned around to after he had finished washing his hands was one to behold for many reasons. he took a mental photo of you, dancing to his favorite song, hoping to cherish it for all the years to go by.

you formed the cake balls side by side without talking to each other, but somehow, some type of communication was still happening between the two of you. it consisted of hip nudges, longing stares, and quick pecks to the lips, probably the type of communication with him that you were the most fond of.

kenny had the last bit of frosting-cake mixture to form into a ball so you washed your hands before him, taking the tablespoon that you used with you to place it into the sink. you heard him ask what the next step is from where he was. "preparing the candy melts and putting in the sticks." you threw him a backwards glance over your shoulder.

you put a saucepan over the stove, setting it on low then started to pour a sufficient amount of candy melts out of the bag and into the pot. while you were doing this, you felt a pair of arms wrapping around your waist. you smiled up at kenny before slinking out of his grip which immediately made him frown. "last time you did that, i ended up with egg on my shoulder, kenneth." you gave his ass a pat as you walked over to where the utensils were kept and grabbing a wooden spoon which was what you used to stir the candies around until they were fully melted.

by this time, kenny has won you over again. his hands were gripping your waist and swaying you from side to side to the music that was still fluttering in the air. his chin was on your shoulder and he was softly singing the lyrics into your ear.

"babe," you reached up behind you to tangle your hand into his hair. his singing faltered at you calling for his attention and he pressed a kiss to your shoulder blade. "yeah?"

"grab the lollipop sticks from the table please? and the cake balls while you're at it?" the warmth momentarily left your body, but quickly came back, now with the things you've asked for on the spot beside the stove, exactly where you wanted them.

"need my help?" he hummed into your neck. you shook your head. "i think this is more of a one person job. especially if the other person has broad shoulders and takes up a lot of space and will probably just bump into me over and over." you laughed lightly as you began to dip the lollipop sticks into the melted candy and put them into the soft cake balls you and kenny have made.

"excuse me? hey! i'm jacked! do you not see people on twitter thirsting for me all of the time??" he playfully spluttered at your comment. "kenny, look babe, if anyone knows how jacked you are, it's me, but my point still stands." you tilted your head to the side at him, lips pursed, and both hands up in surrender. "you're lucky i love you." he was all he grumbled out in response.

when you were done, you turned to kenny who was behind you. "do you wanna cover any of them in sprinkles or crushed nuts or anything like that?"

he grinned, pushing off of the counter he was resting his body weight on. "absolutely not. i wanna decorate them all for halloween. they'll be like.. our monster children!"

"okay then!" you laughed at what he said, beckoning him over. "we have to cover all of these in this." you gestured to the cake pops, now inserted with sticks for you to hold on to, then to the remaining melted candy. "this is like.. the base coating for when decorate, i guess."

you moved the saucepan and tray of cake pops so you can put them onto the block of craft foam you had without bumping hands and making everything messier than it's supposed to be.

some of the cake pops were a tad bit more lopsided than the others but you liked to think that it gave them character. besides, it's for halloween. they're supposed to be spooky and unpolished. not to be cliche, but in every sense of the word, they were perfectly imperfect.

it took a bit of a long time for them to dry, once you were done coating them all, so you figured that while you wait, you could set up all of the ingredients you were gonna use for decorating such as icing in little tubes that made it easier for you to draw with, mini marshmallows and chocolate chips, sprinkles, and other sweet, sugary foods that was sure to not be in kenny's diet plan, but hey, it was halloween. this time though, you didn't set all of this up on the counter. you set it up on the dining table so you could sit down and really take your time as you decorated your monster children as kenny so charmingly referred to them as.

during your time decorating, kenny's favorite vinyl record was no longer playing. it was replaced by your phone playing timely halloween music. it set up the mood for what you two were doing and made your creativity for all things spooky flow.

to say that kenny was more preoccupied by this activity than you would be an understatement, so while he was distracted, you went off to seek your revenge from him cracking an egg on your favorite shirt earlier.

you slinked off to the kitchen and peered at the saucepan on the stove. as you've expected, the melted candy has set and became a lot thicker than it's consistancy earlier. you quickly but quietly spooned it from the pan into a piping bag before tiptoeing back to where kenny sat.

from what you saw, it's not like noticed your absence. or at least he wasn't bothered by it, he didn't think anything of it.

he didn't know what was about to come for him.

truthfully, you didn't know how you managed to pull it off, but you did. you were able to pour some of the liquid candy melts onto his shoulder without him noticing. you didn't know how he didn't feel it, but regardless, you weren't complaining.

with a victorious smirk, you left the room to dispose of the piping bag before settling back into your chair next to his and began to decorate as you did, pretending that nothing happened.

all of a sudden, he - gently - grabbed the back of your head and smooshed it all over his candy covered shoulder, completely coating your face with the sticky, sweet ingredient. you were left with a candy-covered face and a mouth that is agape.

"c'mon babe, did you really think i didn't notice you pouring icing on my shoulder?" he grinned, running a finger on your face and putting it inside his mouth, tasting the delicious confectionery as well as his victory.
