A Deal
The king snatched up the child and went back up the stairs running. What had he done? He had murdered the love of my life because he was afraid of how others would look at me, that’s what he’d done.
"Oh, dear, sweet Avery, what have I done?"
She just babbled at him with such pure innocence. He had to keep her, he just had to. She was too innocent for this world and the harshness of it.
On his way up, he was trying to come up with a plan, but had the misfortune of running into the Queen.
"Oh, my dear, what is that you hold in your hands?"
"It's umm.. a potato."
Avery decided to betray her father and let out a little cough.
"A potato that coughs?"
"No, my dear, this is going to sound bad, but do not react till I finish."
"Okay…”
"It's a child, bu-"
"A WHAT?!"
"It's not mine. I found the poor thing alone in the dungeons without a mother. I just felt horrible, I had to take her"
"Interesting, she has your eyes."
"Ah yes, but artic blue is the most common of eye types.”
"Really? I've only met two people with that color of eyes - you and her.”
"I admit that she is mine blood, I apologize. I was drunk one night and... well she appeared. I didn't quite believe it myself, but I can't deny she shares my eyes and what I hope to be my ebony black hair."
"So we're keeping her?"
"I assumed so... are we not?"
"I guess we have to, it would be cruel to leave a child alone.”
"Thank you, my love. But can you swear to me you will not tell anybody, not even the serving staff?"
"Yes, my love I swear."
"Good because the penalty would be your execution."
He saw the queen tense up.
"Of... course."
