Chapter 15
Tori bursts in before I've finished opening the door, throwing her arms around me and babbling something about never letting me out of her sight again.
I let her crush me and try not to think about the fact the fact that so much has changed in the last twenty-four hours. Last time I saw her feels like a million years ago now.
When she steps back, she lets out a gasp of horror, her hand flying to her mouth. After a second she lowers it shakily, "Did he do this?"
I shake my head wryly and touch my bruised face, "Believe it or not, this was the first arsehole I pissed off."
"You are going to be the death of me." Tori sighs, yanking me into another tight embrace.
She sees something over my shoulder and releases me. "You must be Logan. Thank you for looking after my friend."
Logan's warm chuckle has me spinning as she clears the few paces across the room and he shakes her hand. "Nice to meet you, and she doesn't really need much looking after. I've found Gemma to be a pretty capable woman."
I roll my eyes and feel a warmth in my chest as I move to join them. "Thanks for the vote of confidence."
Tori looks back over her shoulder, "Is this-" She waggles her eyebrows and I try not to laugh.
"Yes, and no, we are not talking about it!" I warn.
"Care to explain?" Logan asks after a moment of us sending each other significant looks.
"Nope." We say in unison and then giggle.
He frowns, folding his large arms across his chest in a way that makes his muscle bulge. How does a giant tattooed biker in my living room feel weirdly normal after all this?
"So is anyone going to explain what happened with Gray?" Tori asks, looking back and forth between us.
My smile drops and the glow I get from being in their company fades instantly. Of course it always comes back to him.
"He called me." I say, ignoring the two sets of eyes on me, "Said he was watching me from the window." My eyes scan the window in question, too afraid to get close to it.
A growl rumbles in Logan's throat and I see a flash of the darkness he's trying to hide in Tori's presence. I shoot him what I hope is a reassuring smile as Tori taps her foot, impatiently waiting for the rest of the story.
"He said he was going to hurt Logan, so I went running down there to...I don't even know what I was hoping to do." I sigh.
"No offence honey, but Mr Logan looks perfectly capable of taking care of himself and you? You look like you got in a fight with a wall and the wall won." Tori points out unhelpfully.
"I'm a self-defence instructor Titch." I correct.
"Oh yeah? And which class covers stopping moving vehicles?" She asks in an overly innocent tone.
"I had to do something." I retort.
Her face softens. She's been my best friend since we were little and is well aware of my protective instincts.
"He's a nutcase Gem. A nutcase who has hurt you before, and we both know would happily do it again." Her voice is gentle, but firm. "So what happened?"
"He mounted the pavement, gunning for me. Gemma managed to shout a warning so I could jump clear, but he got my bike." Logan says and there's an undercurrent of danger in his furious tone.
I don't know if Tori hears it, or just senses it, but she takes a small step back, bumping against my arm.
"That's yours out front?" She asks.
He nods sharply and she sucks in a breath. "I don't care what Zak says, you're moving in with us." She says, not taking her eyes off Logan who she has apparently just noticed is a little intimidating.
"That's sweet of you, but-"
"No buts! It is not safe with him out there." There's a stubborn edge to her that I normally love, but right now I'm finding a little annoying.
"What? So I just bring all the danger to your front door?" I snap back, "I'm sure Zak would love that."
"I don't care what he thinks, you could have died Gemma. Do you know how scary it is being your friend and not knowing if getting a call is just for a catch up, or because you've got in a fight, or your crazy ex is after you." Her voice is rising in pitch until it's almost a scream. I force myself to swallow hard as it hits me how much this affects her too.
She takes a deep breath and shakes her head, "I supported you when you decided not to press charges, I supported you when you started your weekends thrill-seeking. I will always be here for you, but your choices don't only affect you."
Tears sparkle on her lower lashes and she blinks them away.
Logan clears his throat and I suddenly remember he's still here, "I don't know if it helps," He says gruffly, "But you could stay with the club, Gemma."
My mouth falls open as I look at the man who was acting like he couldn't wait to be rid of me not that long ago.
"No offence mister talk, dark and dangerous, but Gemma has had more than enough murderous dicks in her life and I'm pretty sure she doesn't need to add some bad boy bikers to her list." Tori means well, but Logan immediately stiffens at the murderous comment.
"Tori, that was fucking rude." I snap, "And thanks a lot to both of you, but as a grown woman, I am actually perfectly capable of taking care of myself and making my own choices."
Two sets of eyes focus in on me and I fight the urge to fidget.
"Well, love," Logan asks, "make a choice. What do you want to do then?"
"Firstly, I want to take a god damn shower." I say and his lip quirks into an amused smile, "Second, I want to find out who the hell gave Gray my flyer because they stole my safe feeling."
They're processing that tit bit when my phone starts to ring and I answer it quickly, "Yes?"
"Errr Crow, dude, where did all your testosterone go? You sound like some whingy chick." The dark voice chuckles.
"It's for you." I say holding out the phone to Logan, "Some absolute twat of a guy who doesn't know how to talk to a woman."
As my patience has run out, so has the filter between my mouth and brain.
Logan's brows shoot up, "I hope to fuck that's not Pops or I may have to take back the offer to crash at ours." He laughs.
