"Poor boy..."
My son lay on the ground, helpless and weak. He had tears streaming down his face and he was seriously injured.
I fought back my own tears.
If I wanted the power that I craved, I had to forget about my family and my loved ones. If I showed any sympathy, Auda would mistake it as reluctance to follow him.
Although, I was barely in control of myself anymore. I allowed the spirit to take over me and almost every action I made was Auda's doing.
I could only now sit back and watch as everything I loved and cared about suffered. Just because of my thirst for power...
"Enough!" Auda screeched as I felt the familiar pang of pain pierce through my skull.
The image I was allowed to see vanished.
I gritted my teeth and tried to refrain myself for screaming. I dug my nails into my palms and tried to steady my shallow breaths.
"Please..."
The knot of pain loosened and I sighed.
"Do not think about what you cannot control! You have to focus on one thing and forget about everything else, you understand?"
I nodded.
"Splendid."
"But what have you done with her?"
If Auda had a face his eyebrows must've heightened.
"My...my wife."
"Oh, she is safe. Don't you bother. Though, she is not alone..."
"What do you mean?"
"She is not the only captive..."
In my head, an image suddenly appeared.
In a dungeon with walls formed from dark red rocks, four people were chained to the ground.
They all sat beside each other, whispering among themselves.
They were all adults, two men and women.
One man looked rather young and the other looked middle aged. The two women looked similar in age and when one of them looked up and around her prison, my breath hitched.
My wife, the love of my life and the mother to my dear children was bound on her hands and legs with a repulsive looking black material.
She looked frightened and unkempt and she had streaks of tears running down her cheeks.
The tears threatened to escape.
"I said she is safe, now let's focus on more important things."
I blinked rapidly and swallowed as he began to state his plan.
"I cannot get past their borders," he began and then chuckled. "...but I can get into their heads."
He let out a loud cackle.
"We shall arrive soon," he began, "but the exact time is not known as we are not ready yet. There are things that must be done first..."
He caused me to stand up from my seat and walk over to a table.
We were alone in an evil throne room.
I learnt it was for the king of the kingdom, the kingdom of death. The walls were as red as the ones in the dungeon and it's surface was rough and as sharp as a blade's edge. The king's throne stood menacingly at the corner, empty but still radiating evil.
On the surface of the table in my front, a magic scroll was opened and different scenes played on it one after the other.
I was willed to put my hands outwards and touch the scroll when it got to a particular point.
As my palm touched the paper the transition of scenes stopped.
I saw my son lying on his bed, peacefully asleep.
My brows creased as I felt the spirit in me radiate a sudden emotion of elation.
"Trevor Green...this boy is a very special one," Auda spoke and there was no hint of humour in his voice. He actually spoke like he respected him very much.
"I hope you are aware that your son inhabits the spirit of fire in him."
I was truly surprised.
"My son? How–"
"Your daughter even! I must say, your children are really special. A spirit of Reina doesn't just choose anyone anyhow."
"Tanya...?"
"The spirit of light! Probably my favourite. Even if she's the youngest, she's the fiercest!"
I laughed at the absurdity.
"But the point here is not to commend those pesky spirits of Reina. Although, I must say that with the help of that diviner of Horei, Xi Chang, they did a really good job defending themselves against that monster I sent for them here."
"They've been here?"
Auda chuckled.
"I led one of them here and he foolishly arrived. My plan was to lead him to that captured creature and end them so the spirits can be released and then I capture them..."
I probably looked lost because he sighed within me.
"I will tell you the plan on how to capture the spirits later."
"Now, let me tell you the first steps. I can only possess the mind of another person who has a spirit of Reina in them if you focus and do that with me."
"Why do we need to possess someone's mind?"
He chuckled for the millionth time.
"I love this. If only my plan would work."
He sighed and then continued. "The spirits of Reina know that I'm arriving soon. All the diviners of Horei can feel my aura. They have probably planned their method of capturing and drawing in my spirit. I can't let that happen."
"What are your plans to stop that then?"
"The only way stop their plans is to know that plan..."
My lips stretched slowly upward. "I like where this is going."
"Yes, I love it as well. We need to get into their heads one by one, threaten them to give us information or their loved ones suffer...and I do not joke when I say this."
"Who do we start with first?" I asked, suddenly eager to do this.
"Why, your son Trevor!"
My face fell, "How do we do it? What do we use to threaten him?"
Auda grunted.
"Are you this dense? Why else did we capture his mother?"
I nodded in understanding.
"Would she be alright?"
"Oh, of course!...if your son agrees to the plan."
The tears welled up in my eyes once more and I tried my hardest to hold them back.
Remember what you're doing this for Joseph. Don't think or feel. Just follow the plan.
I heard a sound behind me and I turned around quickly to see a figure reclining on the king's throne.
"Steven!" Auda said from within me.
The man couldn't hear him so I repeated the call.
He turned to me quickly and as soon as his eyes caught mine, he smiled. "Well, Auda. What do we have here? This is a nice surprise!"
"Welcome," I voiced out for Auda. "Listen to the plan. I'm positive you will love it!"
