For some reason, I didn't leave the kingdom and I still didn't want to even when I noticed that the sky was getting darker and I could barely hear any sounds.
Back in ankor, it should be around six o'clock but I didn't bother going back.
I honestly preferred staying here. Like I would recommend it for anyone who needed instant, nonverbal therapy.
I was standing on a rock, gazing at the scenery.
Damn, night back at home was nothing compared to this.
Suddenly, a flicker of light not far away from where I stood caught my eye and I squinted.
Who in Horei was awake by this time?
Yes, these powerful magician's bedtime was six o'clock. Believe it or not.
Anyways, I jumped down from the rock and landed as silently as possible on the sandy ground.
And because I was Alexis, I decided to find out where the light was coming from.
I was a few feet away from it when I realized that the light was actually a ball of fire floating in the air.
I yelped and clamped my mouth shut with my hand when I stepped on someone by mistake.
I took a step back and tried to steady my breathing.
"Hey."
"Trevor what the hell?" I whispered and stood above him.
He was with his back to the ground and both of his hands where stretched outwards above him as he played with a ball of fire and a ball of water on either hand.
"I can't go back," he said absentmindedly and then made the two elements to touch, causing a hiss and a patch of steam to billow out.
I sat beside him.
"Still finding it hard to believe that there's a water spirit."
He chuckled.
"Me too."
Then he made the two elements to disappear and sat up.
"I think it's really cool. But then, why?"
I smiled.
"Why...me? Like I don't want my fire spirit anymore. Why in the world am I receiving another one?"
"Because...you are the chosen one," I said in an old spooky magician's voice and Trevor burst out laughing.
"Shh!"
"It's alright," he said and tried to catch his breath. "these magicians sleep like their dead."
My brows peaked in amusement.
I watched him intently and tried to savour the moment. He was actually smiling.
But it was short lived.
His face fell in a second and he looked away form me.
I looked straight ahead and realized that we were actually close to the river where I saw him earlier today.
This was where we fought.
"Why are you here?" he asked and flicked his hand slightly, causing a tiny flame to dance around his fingers.
I watched intently, completely fascinated until the light went out and I snapped my head up at him.
He raised his brows at me in confusion.
"You're not the only person who likes to escape ankor you know."
"No, I mean, why are you here. With me?"
"Oh."
I sighed.
"I thought Chang said none of you guys should be around me anymore."
"As much as I want to stop Auda, I also want to reason sensibly you know."
"Hmm?"
"Like, none of us actually stopped to think...why would Trevor do this?"
He was mute.
"Just like no one wants to understand that every bad thing someone has ever done, the reason why villains are what they are is because they've been treated unfairly before. Or... they were just trying to be safe. Everyone cares about themselves, don't they?"
No answer.
"Trevor, lemme be the one to ask. Why'd you do it?"
There was a long pause before he let out a huge sigh.
"We all know Auda got my mom and your parents."
I nodded.
"Okay so one afternoon, I was just chilling in my basketball court and suddenly he's in my head. Next thing he tells me to tell him what our plans to stop him are. At first I'm like are you crazy? But next thing, he shows me my mom and tells me he's going to hurt her if I don't tell him. I hesitate...and then she just starts screaming..."
"...and you had to tell him," I finished.
"And get this. The deal was that after I told him, he'll let our parents go. So, a few days ago I had a kind of... vision. And I could see the throne room of the king of Shu. The king and Auda were talking and Auda shocked me by saying that he wasn't going to let our parents go because he couldn't trust us. And he knows that we're going to form a new plan to destroy him so he was just keeping them just incas–"
"That bastard!"
"I know. I made y'all lose trust in me so I could at least get out parents back but at the end it's lose-lose sich for me."
"Man, I feel so bad right now."
"No need."
"You know, I get how it feels."
"What do you mean?"
"This... situation right now. Everyone hating on you for something you did without knowing why you actually did it."
I saw him smile.
"What?"
"Okay villain, tell me. What happened?"
I chuckled at the guy but starting talking anyway.
"I'll say this as vaguely as I can."
He rolled his eyes and nodded for me to proceed.
"I'm dyslectic. You know that. So when I was in school, I was bullied because of it. Before you ask how, well I never told anyone cause I was ashamed of it and whenever I was called out to read something...it was like torture. Everyone just thought I was dumb and kept teasing me.
"As I grew, it became even more frustrating because I didn't bother to do anything to help myself. And I kept getting angrier at the situation. So I was indirectly mad at everyone.
"So, as it was, there was this stupid science fair project some kid made and it was really important to the school because the school doesn't usually go for competitions like that. So for some reason, the school thought they where gonna win cause of it and at the moment, it was the most important thing for them."
I took a deep breath and went on.
"One day, when we wer idle during class, some kid was teasing me again and I was ticked off but I didn't react so he left me alone. Suddenly, I heard my sister screaming and realized that she was being bullied by the same guy and then I lost it. I attacked the guy.
"And for some stupid reason, the science project was on the teacher's table and just bless karma, I pushed the guy onto the table."
"Damn."
"So yh, everyone just hated me, the kids, the teachers, the principal. It was like humans just detested me because they didn't just understand..."
"Wow, that was so vague and not so vague at the same time."
I laughed.
"What I'm trying to say is...I get you. I'm still gonna be talking to you, just, not when Chang or the sprits are around."
Trevor hit my on my houlder lightly.
"I appreciate man."
"No problem," I mummured as thoughts of me kicking Trevor off the team jumped into my mind.
I wasn't being a real friend. I had to tell him.
I glanced at him nervously.
"What?"
----
Hmm isn't it strange how Lucy and Alexis have something in common with their background...
