Travis sucked in a large breath as he stood outside the local dollar store. He walked in to find Lilac working the register. He would've walked right over, but he saw some little knick knack that he so needed, so he picked it up and made his way over. "What the heck are you doing here?" Lilac whispered. "I just walked in," he lied. "Liar." "Hey, can we talk?" Lilac thought, then turned to the teenage boy mopping the floor. "Robbie! I'm taking my break now. Cover for me!" The kid, Robbie, panicked, and as a result of that, he dropped his bucket on the floor. "Do you think he'll be able to handle the place?" "He'll be perfectly fine," Lilac said, acting like it was no big deal and she did it all the time. "What did you want to talk about?" "You kind of ran off." "Yeah, because I had work, dumbass." "I know, you said that, but, I can't help but feel like I did something wrong." Her eyes darted to the side. "You didn't," she said. Then, the next bit was so quiet Travis was sure he hadn't heard her at all, "I did." "What?" "I did, you mother-fucker, ok!" Travis took a step back, afraid of this new side of Lilac. "What did you do?" He said breathlessly after a moment. "I fell for you," she said sadly. She turned around to walk away, but Travis grabbed her hand and pulled her to face him. "Wow, deja vu," she breathed. "Why was that a mistake?" Travis asked, slightly hurt. "Look, Travis, I really like you, and you're one of the sweetest guys I've ever met, but I just can't be with you. Ok?" "Why? Are you dating somebody else?" She laughed. "No. And that's exactly why I can't be with you." With that, she walked off.
