Chapter Thirty-Three

-???'s POV-

The plan had been simple. Kill them, kill their counterpart, and get out of the server for good. That was the plan. The thing was, that plan wouldn't work anymore. Why? Well, because there were more and more counterparts appearing. Too many. It wasn't normal, nor containable. So the plan couldn't work, and the plan was scrapped. That plan, at least. The new plan was to kill just the counterparts, and see what happened. They hadn't gotten anyone, but they were getting closer to capturing one. Subject 70453: "Nurse Joy". They had named her 70453 scientifically, but she responded to/ was called Nurse Joy, so they had to include it. Ah, technicalities, always getting in the way. It was annoying, to say the least. But, there wasn't any way to destroy said technicalities, so living with it was the only option (sadly).

They weren't happy that they hadn't caught a single counterpart, but their near capture of Subject 70453 was bringing them early elation of sorts. Said elation seemed to be effecting their probability of success, but they didn't appear to care. They wanted to enjoy their minor victory first anyways. Oh, what was that? Someone just claimed that they caught Subject 70453. Their face was that of someone who was way too pleased with their shoddy handiwork of a lie, but nonetheless, fellow indulgent staff seemed to believe them. The staff congratulated them, asking to be shown the impressive capture. And so, the nurse was brought in. Heads turned to stare at the struggling figure in black and red as she was brought forth in handcuffs, and nobody said anything for a while. Then, a wave of slightly appalled clapping broke loose. That was one counterpart down, lots more to go.

-Wels' POV-

I was just sitting there, watching Jevin with a sigh. He had literally been better than amazing mere hours ago, and now he was passed out on my bed, freezing to the touch. And to think, I had almost forgotten about him with the whole Xisuma thing. Wow. But whatever... I just hoped he would wake up soon. He was kinda my best friend and I was worried, so the sooner he woke up, the less worried I would be. The less worried I was, the better I could help him if and when he woke up, anyways. He seemed tense though... his back was arched, his shoulders were squared, his chest looked tight... It wasn't just physically, though, but physically was most noticeable, so... yeah. I reached out an arm tentatively, placing it on his. He instantly shivered, but then clung to my arm like it was a raft that was saving him from being stranded on an island forever. And then he didn't let go.

So now I was stuck with an adorable but very slimy- well, slime- clinging to my arm. Great. Just then, something happened. It was so quick that I wasn't sure what had happened, but I think Jevin just grabbed my arm firmly, pulled me onto the bed- my bed, remind you-, and started cuddling me. That, or I had very clumsily and subconsciously managed to find my way into the death trap that was Jevin's cuddles. I assumed the latter. Either way, I was stuck. Not just because I felt like moving would somehow cause me to get sniped, but also because Jevin was so slimy that I was pretty much attached to him. Goddamn it. Now I couldn't do anything. If a murderer came in right now, I'd be screwed. I wasn't sure if Jevin could take a bullet asleep either- awake, it would just get stuck in his gooey form, but asleep, could he still control that? I assumed not.

Taking a deep breath, I decided that maybe I was just being paranoid. I mean, it wasn't like anyone would- or could, for that matter- really shoot people on the server, unless of course they had a bow, aiming skills, and a murderous intent. But an actual gun? No, there was no such thing. People on this server considered themself lucky that they didn't own guns, either. I mean, something so lethal, so powerful? "Not good". "Too OP". That's what the others said, at least. And I wanted to agree, really. But a gun- assuming it wasn't being used for murder- was pretty cool in theory. I mean, a slim piece of metal that could kill in mere minutes? Pretty cool, I think. Anyways- back to the matter at hand. Jevin. Now that I was stuck with him, I realized just how snuggly and cute he was... I mean, uh- what? No, I didn't say he was cute- Uh- Wels, signing off!

-Doc's POV (because I just realized it's been ten-something chapters since I even mentioned the man with the hot German accent)-

It was strange. I was here again. I could still remember what had happened, too, though nobody else seemed to. All of what had occurred before Mumbo pressed the button. So I was in the testing lab before it happened, huh? Okay. Who had been here again? For some reason, I feared them... maybe they were a cat hybrid or something. Cats did scare me quite often in game, after all. I guess it was because I was a creeper, and they looked... intimidating. I heard footsteps, and tensed. Who was coming? Should I do something? What? I thought about it as the steps came closer, deciding I would have my sword ready just in case. I checked my inventory... but I didn't have it. What the fuck..? I checked all my pockets, everything, but nothing.

Just then, the person who had been the source of the footsteps came into view. With a semi-intimidating glare, armor, and a sword, they looked like someone I wouldn't like to mess with with my current gear- aka nothing, apparently. They stared at me expectantly, and I felt like I was forgetting something. Scoffing, they flicked a lever on some sort of remote, which opened the door next to me. I hadn't even noticed there was a door until they opened it, honestly. They retrieved something from the room behind the door, and then looked back at me with that same expectant look. It turned angry when I didn't get whatever I was supposed to, and I felt a hard shock run through my body. It didn't hurt as much as being killed, but it left me shaking a bit afterwards, and definitely feeling pained. It was like lightning... Still, I made no noise. I didn't really want to learn what happened when I spoke out of order (and that was a first to me too, don't worry).

The person gestured for me to follow them, which I quickly did, staying as silent as I could. They seemed not to like the silence, however, and spoke in a voice lower and with a more gravelly tone than Xisuma's, but definitely to a similar likeness. "Come on, give me a dialysis or something. How has the initial capture testing gone?" I blinked. Capture testing? Wait... wasn't that- "Good, good..." I spoke quietly as I remembered, sighing. "It's been a bit bland because the first few haven't reacted that much." He nodded, seemingly bored but content with that answer. "Then I trust its been going well on the actual fusion, right? I mean, if the tests went well, then the fusions must have worked out fine, right?" It was more like a demand than a question, and he would only react well to hearing that the testing did go well; he wasn't asking if it was. I think most of the testing was composed of his fairly idiotic ideas, so that's why he was so sure it had to be going fine- better, even.

I don't know what he took my silence as- probably a yes- but he didn't have time to shock me if he thought otherwise; we had arrived at a room, and there was enough distracting sounds (ex: growling and fighting) to throw any train of thought off it's tracks. He entered, looking unamused by the noise, and gestured for me to follow. I did. Inside, there was a humanoid that looked extremely satanic, and it glared over at us. Lucky us- more for me, I didn't care much for the other guy- it was chained up against the wall. That didn't stop it from trying to slice at us with a sharp-clawed hand. I dodged back, but the other guy walked forwards, indifferent. He injected something into the- I don't know, creature? Yeah, he injected something into the creature's arm. At least, it looked like an arm. It probably was. It strained for a minute more, before it's struggling stopped. It seemed to fuse down, down into the form of a different animal. The guy left after, and I figured better than to stay.

"That was just a test on an enderman with the product before we use it on the fusions. You knew that much, though. Now, we've gotta get another fusion. One isn't that impressive." (Quick author's note: I can't remember who EX took at the beginning of the story, and I can't find it in the earlier chapters, so I'm going to say that this next part, if not accurate with the past events, was different because of the reset.) "We have Grian, but I want to get False. If we can get her, then we'll have the hardest out of the way." I looked at him, and I wasn't sure if he was joking or not. He wanted to go after a woman that could literally stab his guts out in three seconds just to get the hardest out of the way? Seriously? I mean, if he died, I could just set the fusions free and run, but I didn't want to deal with an angry False if she decided to think I was willingly working with him. But, I wouldn't say that. I could probably take her anyways... And so I agreed to what I would later regret: "Alright, let's do it."
