Chapter Six
The next day, I finally started working, which I was excited about. I loved my job and I was finally able to do it where I had always wanted. I woke up early and did my hair. I was going to a boutique called Aida, and I had to catch the tube to get there.
I decided to wear light wash jeans, with a cream blazer, along with my sneakers. I grabbed my purse and headed to the station.
I barely made it on time for my train, but luckily I could walk fast if I needed to.
When I got to the boutique a nice young girl, about my age, let me in. They weren't open on Mondays, so today would be good to just film a lot around the store. When I walked in I could already see many things that I thought were cute.
"Hi," the girl said in a sweet accent, "my name's Charlie."
I smiled at her, "Hi Charlie, I'm Daphne."
She was pretty. She was a little bit shorter than me and had red hair that fell to her shoulders. She was fair and had freckles all around her face. She also had a good sense of fashion. She was wearing a cute, blue skirt that fell to her knees, with a white sweater.
"I love your accent," she said, which was weird for me because I hadn't heard someone tell me anything other than "oh you're American".
"Thank you," I laughed, placing my bag down on the counter, "I love yours as well."
"My boss will be here soon, but in the meantime we can just hang out." She said going to sit on the green couch that sat at the front of the store.
"Cool," I said, following her to sit down.
She smiled, "So how do you like London so far?"
I folded my hands together, "It's amazing, I have dreamed of living here all my life, so it really is a dream come true."
"That is great, surprisingly I love it here too, even though I've lived here all my life."
"Yeah, since I moved in two weeks ago, I did all of my touristy stuff last week so I could get it out of my system."
She laughed, "Don't worry I still have a lot of fun doing the tourist attractions every once in a while."
I really liked her so far, she was definitely easy to talk to.
"Have you made any friends yet?" She asked.
"Well," I started, "I know my neighbor, but I wouldn't consider them a friend, but I have met this very lovely old man who runs a music shop." After that came out of my mouth I realized how sad that sounded.
"Well, now you have one." She smiled pointing at herself.
"We should go out tonight, I would say you haven't really seen the London nightlife yet."
"I have not," I smiled, "I haven't found anyone to do it with yet."
She squealed, "Perfect, here," she grabbed her phone, "put your number in and I'll text you when and where to meet me."
I grabbed her phone and put my number in, "I'm so excited."
"Me too!"
We spent the next couple of minutes chit-chatting about work and life, then her boss finally came in. She was an older woman, probably in her fifties, but she was hot. I'm not kidding, she was in better shape than me and she had a full blazer set on, and her hair was tied back in a low bun.
"Hello, you must be Daphne," she said shaking my hand.
"Yes, that is me, and you must be Amelia."
She smiled, "Yes, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too."
She looked over at Charlie on the couch, "So it seems you have already been acquainted with Charlie."
Charlie stood up from the couch, "Yes, we had a chance to talk."
"Splendid, so how about we get started on some ideas, yes?" Amelia said walking behind the counter and grabbing a piece of pen and paper.
"Oh, um yes," I grabbed my phone from my bag, "I have all my plans in my notes."
"Well, then let's get to it then." She smiled and then started to ask me questions about my social media and how many posts I would do and for how much. Once we got through with all the business stuff, she let me have free rein of the store and start getting some things to post for social media. I picked out some things from the clothing racks to put on and film videos with. Charlie was a major help and filmed everything for me. I had a blast with her.
"So is this all you do?" She asked as I was changing into a red mini dress, that I honestly loved. It was low cut in the front and the back and was tight around my waist but flared out at the bottom.
"Um, yeah, I'm looking for a job for the time being until I find a job in a higher-up place," I said pulling my hair from underneath the dress.
"O my gosh, you should totally work here for the time being, Amelia has been looking for someone else to work with me."
It could honestly be fun, I really haven't been doing much here besides walking around and being in my apartment. Having a job with Charlie could number one, make me a friend, and number two, become more in tune with the city.
"I would love to!" I said as I walked out of the fitting room.
Charlie's jaw dropped, "You look hot."
I hid my face behind my hands, "Stop."
"I'm serious," she said spinning me around, "you have to wear that out tonight."
"No, I couldn't," I said.
"Please, I will literally buy it with my employee discount."
I did really like the dress, "Fine, I will let you use your employee discount, but I am paying you back."
She smiled, "Fine with me!"
I left the boutique a little bit later to go home and get ready for my night out with Charlie. I was really excited to make my first friend here. I had been a little lonely. It's hard moving to a place where you know no one. The only friend I had made was Mailon and I couldn't really talk about girl problems with him, and Kit, well he was Kit. He could care less about what I do. His grandpa is just paying him extra to do the lessons.
When I got home I slipped into the dress from earlier. I truly did feel amazing in that dress. My hair had already been curled so all I had to do was touch up my makeup and slip on my heels. I could hear Kit playing the piano in his apartment. I didn't mind during the day, and he had stopped playing at night since I asked him to, which I did appreciate. I wish I could be musically talented like that. I don't think the lessons will be enough to make me good. Charlie texted me the address to a pub that was a quick walk from my house, so I decided just to walk.
When I got there Charlie was standing outside. She was wearing a back leather skirt with a sparkly top, "Daphne, you look amazing babe," she said as she came up to hug me.
"Thank you, and you," I broke the hug to look at her, "look at you."
"You ready to have some fun," she said with a smirk.
"Always."
We got inside and it was packed, who would have thought a pub would be this crowded on a Monday night? Charlie said it was because a lot of tourists come here, and as she calls it "fast hook-ups". When we made it to the bar she ordered a martini and I ordered tequila. We cheered and then we both took sips. I chugged mine.
"Bloody hell, you can down tequila."
I laughed, "I might be able to down it, but I am the biggest lightweight."
I ordered another one and shot it down. Two in and I was already feeling buzzed. We were sitting at the bar and Charlie looked up.
"Very hot men, three o'clock." She pointed behind me. When I looked up I saw two, obviously American, guys eyeing both Charlie and me. They were very hot, they had that typical American football guy look. Charlie waved at them and they came over.
"Hello, Ladies," the one on the left with dirty-blond hair said, he had a deep voice, "Can we buy you all some drinks?"
Charlie nodded, "Another martini please."
"Tequila."
Both boys' eyebrows rose, "American too." The one on the right with lighter blond hair said.
"Yep, just moved here a couple of weeks ago."
"Cool," the one on the right said, while the guy on the left ordered the drinks.
"Where from?"
"Virginia."
"Awesome, we are up from Ohio, that guy," he pointed to the dirty blond, "That's my friend, we are visiting for the week.
The dirty-blond smiled and put his hand out, "I'm Jackson," he patted the light blond's shoulder, "this is Elijah."
I shook both their hands, "Daphne, and this is Charlie."
Charlie smiled and started talking more to Elijah.
Jackson smiled at me, the bartender placed down my drink and picked it and handed it to me, "For the very pretty Daphne."
I blushed and took the drink from him. I took smaller sips this time and talked to him.
"So, how do you like London," he asked smiling down at me.
I smiled, making eye contact with the bartender to fill my drink, "it is amazing, I'm like Mary Poppins."
He laughed and moved closer, "Mary Poppins, huh."
A let out a shuddered breath, "Yeah, everything feels magical."
I could smell the whiskey on his breath as he got closer to me. Everything felt very hot. Too hot. Then I was suddenly realizing where I was. In a very crowded bar, very drunk, and about to kiss a guy. Our lips were almost touching when I turned to look for Charlie. I caught sight of her making out with Elijah by the door of the pub, so I knew she was gone.
"You okay?" Jackson asked, handing me my drink.
I quickly shot it down and stood off from my stool.
"I am really sorry, but I need to get home, I have work," I started to walk away, "Um, I hope you find another girl, but you know I really think she should just not be me. You need to get the full London experience, you know a British girl, not an American.
He looked at me confused, but thankfully he didn't try to follow, he just waved and I waved back. When I got outside the pub the air was cold on my legs. I also remembered how drunk I was and it was darker than it was the last time I was out here. I am pretty sure I need to go right... or left...or straight. I got my phone out to go to google maps, but instead, I ended up on my contacts. I had somehow landed on Kit's number and somehow had hit the call button.
"Hello?" A deep, British voice said.
"Hey, you." I said sluggishly walking in the direction I believed I came from.
"Are you all right Daffodil?" He said, his voice seeming concerned.
I snickered, "Are you all right Daffodil," I mimicked his British accent.
"Where are you?" He said in a demanding demeanor, I could hear movement from his phone.
I kept laughing, "I don't know, you'll have to find me," I said in a playful tone, still unable to stop laughing. I heard the sound of a door closing and walking.
I heard him mumble a curse, "Bloody hell Daphne where are you."
"A pub? Yeah I think a pub?"
"Do you know which one?" Another door shut.
"Um," I vibrated my lips together, "It started with a T, maybe?"
"Trumans?" He said in an urgent voice.
"Yes!" I laughed, "You got it, that's the one, you win."
"Okay stay put."
"Sir yes sir," I laughed and ended the phone call.
I sat on a bench in front of the pub and waited for Kit to get there. I was practically asleep when two arms stood me up, when I opened my eyes there was Kit standing in front of me with a worried look in his eyes.
"Are you all right?" He asked, looking me up and down.
I yawned, "I think so."
He let out a breath, "Okay, common let's get you home." He wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close to him, helping with my stability. I let my head fall into his chest. He smelt clean and he had a small hint of cologne that wasn't too strong.
"You smell nice," I whispered into his chest. I could feel his laugh in his chest, "Thank you Daffodil."
We kept walking and I could feel blisters forming on my heels.
I stopped walking, "Hold on." I went to unlace my heel.
Kit's eyes widened, "What are you doing?"
"I'm getting blisters."
He rubbed his hand across his face, "You can't just walk through the streets barefoot."
"Sure I can," I said taking my shoe off.
"Just stop it," Kit said turning his back to me, "hop on."
I laughed, "No way."
"Yes way, you are not walking barefoot, common."
"I'm too heavy."
Kit turned to face me, "Daffodil, you are nowhere near heavy, no common or I'll have to force you.
I bit my lip, "Fine."
"Thank you."
He turned around and bent his knees.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," I mumbled and then hopped on. His back felt sturdy and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
He started to jog, "Light as a feather."
"Kit-" I started laughing, "Stop."
He stopped and walked normally, "Really Daffodil I can't believe you thought you were heavy, I could probably carry three of you."
I laughed, as I saw our apartment building up ahead. As we got to the front of it, I started to feel nauseous.
"Kit," I said, starting to feel the consequences of the alcohol, "put me down or I am going to puke all over you."
He quickly put me down and I ran over to a trashcan that was by a bench. I almost didn't make it, but I successfully made it time to puke my guts out.
I felt a hand on my back, "Okay Daphne common let's get you inside."
I followed Kit in, "Where are your keys?"
"My purse," I pointed down, "wait where did my purse go?"
"God Daphne, ok just common," he led me to his door and unlocked it.
"Quick question," I asked, "where is your bathroom?"
He pointed to a door by his kitchen and I went there.
I started puking, and I felt a hand take back my hair and a hand on my back, rubbing small circles.
I sat up and sat against the wall. Kit was squatted down, "You okay?"
I smiled, "I'm fine."
He smiled back at me and started to get up, "Ok, I'll be right back." He left the bathroom and walked to his right. I sat there waiting for him. His bathroom was small but nice. He had a glass shower and a blue vanity that had cologne and his toothbrush on the counter. He came back with a blue t-shirt. "You change into this and I'll wait for you outside the door."
He handed me the shirt and left the bathroom. I looked down and realized I had vomited all over my dress. My new dress. I sat up and changed into the shirt. It was oversized, but not too oversized, it laid right at my mid-thigh and I was comforted by the scent of Kit that was on the shirt.
When I opened the door Kit was standing across the door, his eyes widened when he saw me. He coughed, "Ok, let's get you to bed."
He guided me to the right and to a door. His bedroom.
