Learning to Relax

Lyra

I dodged another attack of fireballs by jumping to the left. I looked around me quickly, realizing none of my Fairy Tail friends were around to help me. Which left me with this annoying dude.

He seemed normal enough. Brown hair, spiked up. Blue eyes, brown jeans which were torn and a blue pocket shirt. He wore no shoes. And he can fire magic. He was nowhere close to Nastu's magic level, but he could still hurt me.

I held my right arm where he had attacked me. It burned like poison and I felt like just cutting out the spot instead of letting it heal. But I knew I couldn't do that.

"Do you even know magic, redhead?" The fire magic dude taunted. "You're not even putting up a fight."

I clenched my jaw, knowing he was right. I was much too scared to even think about using my magic, so I've been playing dodge the magic fire balls until one of my friends find me.

He raised both his hands over his head, a fire ball forming between his hands. I got on the balls of my feet, ready to jump out of the way again. He threw his fire ball right at me.

I tried to jump this time to get out of the way, but suddenly the pain from last night came crashing back. I winced and toppled over, the fireball coming straight for me.

Okay, let's stop for a second. The readers are probably confused.

It was your idea to start off this way. Not mine.

Shh. Suspense catches their attention.

Can we just please get back to the story? From the beginning?

"Welcome to Clovertown." Lucy smiled at me, as we got off the train.

I smiled, looking around at the people, and how cute the town was. Every town would strike me as special because of the lack of technology. It was all done by magic and I loved it.

"Oh, this is where Natsu went up against Aragor right?" I asked, my eyes widening.

"Yes." Erza smiled at me, "on the railway."

"That's so cool!" I grinned, admiring Clovertown. I absolutely adored it here. I loved that the Fairy Tail world didn't have technology because it felt like I was back in the castle times. I absolutely loved it back then. It seemed cool to live in a place with no technology, not even light bulbs. Just your own two hands. And in this case, two hands and magic.

"What's so interesting about it? It's just like any other town." Nastu gave me a strange look, already heading towards the busiest place of the town.

"Well, where I come from, we have light bulbs, microwaves, ovens, that sort of thing. But here, everything is done by magic." I smiled at him, trying to explain. "Which is cool, 'cause less work that way. I bet a lot more gets done by magic too."

Happy stopped flying in the air and landed on Natsu's head. "Now that just sounds like being lazy."

"But she's right." Carla came to my defense. "A lot more does get done by magic. Imagine if we didn't have magic, like in Lyra's world. We wouldn't be able to build houses in the time that we can now."

Nastu nodded, "And we couldn't have the awesome battles!! I like magic better than none-magic."

Lucy giggled, "Nastu, I don't think that's a word."

He only gave her a grin. "It is now!"

Erza gave a quick nod, then got serious. "So, the biggest clue we have to finding these thieves is to ask the people who got things stolen from them. I think they might give us a clue about what who we're looking for."

I immediately went down to business. For some reason, I really wanted to impress Erza. I wanted to show her that I could control my magic and be what she thought of me. Strong. I knew it was a long shot, with my anxiety and all, but it was worth a try.

"Do we know anything about the Guild?" I asked, looking at her.

"No. I told you everything on the train. Just a guild is taking things." She explained to me, with something I didn't recognize in her eyes.

"Well, let's go talk to some people!" Nastu looked pumped to get started.

"Why don't we ask the people here and meet back here in an hour?" Wendy suggested. "I think an hour would be good, right?"

Carla nodded, "That's a good idea Wendy. We shouldn't meet here though. It's crowded."

Gray, who had been quiet for most of the ride here, pointed to a huge clock tower. "How about there?"

Lucy nodded, "Sounds good!"

Erza shrugged and split us up into teams. Happy and Nastu. Wendy and Carla. Erza and Lucy. That left me with Gray. I felt a little weird being with him, because he didn't talk as much as the rest. But he didn't make it seem like he hated me, so that was okay.

We talked to people here and there, but eventually turned up with nothing. An hour went by, and nothing had come up. It was as if these people just vanished into thin air with their stolen valuables. One minute there, the next gone.

As we walked back to the clock tower, Gray finally started up conversation. He glanced at me a little, looking a little judgmental. I gave him my best Erza-glare, trying to get him to stop.

He gave me a small smile. "Hey, I'm not judging you."

I crossed my arms, feeling weird for acting that way. "Sorry."

"You apologize a lot when things aren't your fault." He commented, tilting his head to the left slightly. I felt his dark eyes trying to figure me out.

"Sorry, I'm Canadian. I can't help it." When he gave me a weird look, I sighed. "Sorry, I forgot Canada is a my world term. No, I just feel like I've pissed you off or something. I'm trying to stay on your good side."

"You're afraid of judgment." Gray figured me out. I was a little shocked that he could see right through me, and I felt my heart stop. I forced myself to act natural, as if his words hadn't made me terrified of him.

I shrugged, "A little. Isn't everybody?"

"I wouldn't know. I don't really care what others think of me. And most of the Guild had a bad background. I assume you know mine. With the whole, what was it that you called it? Anime show?" Gray tried out the words on his tongue and couldn't help but smile. "Those are funny words."

I laughed, feeling at ease. "Yeah, they are. And I know about most of your backgrounds...sorry. That sounds weird when I actually think about it."

Gray shrugged, "It's okay. Even though you're from another world, I trust you."

"Why?" I asked, frowning at this. I wouldn't trust me. I don't trust me. How can he trust someone who just showed up and basically made them go on this trip?

Gray shrugged again, giving me a smile. "I'm not sure. I just feel like you don't belong here."
