getting Goldie

DAY 5, 7: 23 AM

This time, you bumped into Lucifer. "Good morning, Rubina." You didn't see him at the breakfast table, so this is your first time seeing him today. "You've become quite the celebrity here, haven't you?" You nodded. Solomon said the same thing yesterday. You shook him out of your mind. He's clogging up your brain space, after all.

"Good morning, sir," You replied politely. He frowned. "Was that Solomon I saw you talking with yesterday?"

"He was there when it happened?" Chara said, her hands sassily placed on her hips. "Why didn't he help then?"

"Yes, he handed me my D.D.D. when it fell," You explained, seeing no point in describing how you felt and ignoring Chara's statement.

"Since you're both humans, it's fine if you associate with him, but know that he is  untrustable."  Lucifer quickly recapped what Solomon himself told me. "He's the type of man who will try to subjugate even a powerful, greater demon if he gets the chance."

You recalled Levi's instruction and wondered if you had another way of getting information without forcing Mammon into a pact. There doesn't seem like it, you thought and rolled with what you got.  "What is it, Rubina? Is there something you want to ask me?"

"Nice! He's giving you an opening!" Chara encouraged. "Shoot!"

"I'd like to know about Mammon."

His eyes widened in surprise. "Mammon? Well, he is the one assigned to look after you, so it's only natural." He coughed. "Mammon is my brother, so I'll try to be sparing in my criticism."

"He's pure scum." You groveled at his words to his sibling. "The scummiest sort of scum. Pure, unfiltered, disgusting scum to the doubt that I'm embarrassed to call him a fellow demon, much less my brother. Any particular reason why you asked?"

"What's the one thing that is most important to Mammon?" You questioned, crossing your fingers behind your back.

"Smooth, Rubina! High-five!" She lowered her arm to your thighs so you could tap her hand without looking suspicious. "Good job!"

"That would have to be money. There are no limits to how much he spends, so to impose those limits, there's a certain form of money that I've frozen in his case..." He smiled mischievously, something you haven't seen.

Of course, the bell decides to ring. Right at this moment. Lucifer said goodbye and goes gracefully.

"Frozen...?" Chara uttered his words. " 'Certain form of money that I've frozen...' " You left her to puzzle over his words as you walked to your first class of the day.

* After school (BEDROOM; 5: 32 PM) *

You pushed your bangs out of your eyes as you stared out of the window, the constant-night sky and thousands of stars stared back, unobstructed by roofs, unlike home.

As you absentmindedly stare at the sky, a question struck through your head.

Mhmm... There are 7 brothers, but I've only seen 6 so far...

Lucifer, the eldest...

Mammon, the second oldest...

Leviathan, the third oldest...

Satan, the fourth oldest...

Asmodeus, the fifth oldest...

and Beelzebub, the sixth oldest...

Where's the seventh oldest?

You compelled this thought onto Chara and she agreed that it was odd. "I wonder where the seventh oldest is. It's been a week, and we haven't seen him. Ooh!" She gasped, and her ruby eyes lit up. "Try searching for him on Devilgram! There's an app called that, right?"

You grabbed your D.D.D. and pulled up the app, searching for the most popular hashtags, which were the brothers you lived with. Searching through each of them, you noticed an account named Belphie occurring often in the brothers' post.

So you clicked the account, and a man with bluish-grey hair with white strands on the ends, long bangs that cover his right eye, and violet to pink gradient eyes filled your screen. His recent post, which was him sleeping on a cow-patterned pillow was crammed with comments of 'safe travels' and 'good luck', as well as racial comments about the human realm.

"Huh... but I get the feeling that Belphie isn't his real name." Chara declared, eyes fixed on his profile. "Let's ask Beel. His and Belphie's account seems to tag each other a lot." You agreed towards her suggestion, but for now, you put the case to rest.

You opened your windows, letting the cool breeze in, and spent an hour demon-watching, commenting on them with Chara.

There were high school girls, talking brazenly about nonsensical things, boys arguing about game logistics, and so on. You could've sworn you saw Mammon too, rushing like the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

* (IN BED, 10: 47 P.M) *

My phone lights up, receiving a text from Levi.

You showed Chara the text. "Get moving then!"

The carpet warmed your cold feet (for you came without any slippers) as you passed the halls filled with paintings, some of the demon brothers, some of demons and succubus' you've never seen before.

The kitchen looked old-fashioned. Lanterns hung from the walls and ceilings, a big stove with an open fire and an arch sat on one side of the wall, with two small doors under it for the logs.  Shelves made of wood are placed on the opposite sides, and a long table lit up with candles in the middle. The uneven stone floors are warm, transitioning perfectly from carpet to stone.

Another room, separated with an arch (there are a lot of arches, you noticed) housed the pots and pans and a string dangling above drying some rags.

As you entered, you could hear someone chewing on something. You balled your hands into fists and approached said person slowly.

The ghost or whatever started talking. "Ah, perfect timing."

A mop of orange hair in a blue, white, and orange jacket combo and a black shirt with triangles appear. It's Beelzebub if you didn't make yourself clear. "Do you have any food on you? Because there's not nearly enough in the fridge."

You shook your head. "No, I've finished all my candy. That's why I'm here; to see if there's any food in the fridge." You lied, hoping he doesn't see past it.

Beelzebub smiled kindly. "I've finished all the food in the fridge. I'm pretty sure Lucifer is hiding a poisoned apple in the desk of his study..." He waved goodbye and escaped.

"Bottomless pit..." Chara commented as he left. She gasped, then sighed sadly. "Oh! We didn't ask about Belphie! Another time, then."

"psst...hey!" There's another voice whispering, and this time, you couldn't find anyone. "Is that you, God...?" You whispered jokingly. The ghost let out an annoyed sigh.

"No! Get over here!" You headed towards the noise, which came from under the table.

"Levi..?" The bulk didn't say a word. "What are you doing hiding there?" You asked, lending a hand. He took it and stood up.

Yellow headphones and a white and black long-sleeved jacket boi came out from his hiding place. "I can't have Beel finding me with you, duh!"

"Is being with a human that insulting? Sorry, who asked for help, us or you?" You covered your mouth, snickering at Chara's comment.

"But he did say frozen, right?" You sighed deeply.

"For the 100th time Levi, yes! Yes, he did say it was frozen. Yes." You nodded furiously.

He seemed to sense your impatience and hurried on. "That means it can only be in here."

"In the freezer...?"

Levi ignores me, already searching. "Look, it's the ice cream from a century ago that Satan hid from Beel." How long can demon food last?

"There's something else behind the ice," You proclaimed, noticing a big block of ice with something frozen in it.

Levi reached into the freezer and there's Mammon's credit card, literally embedded in ice.

"Does Lucifer like dad jokes? If you look at it from that way, I can see where the joke comes in. It's something Sans would do." Chara theorized. You churned this newfound theory for a second, then agreed silently. She sighed desperately. "To relate a calm guy like that to Sans... not that Sans isn't cool, but..." You understood her point.

As you contemplated whether Lucifer enjoyed dad jokes, Levi struggled to take the iceblock out. "It's so heavy! And big, too! Two minutes on auto should do the trick."

"Isn't the card going to demagnetize, then?" Chara questioned, staring at the Avatar of Envy. You decided not to relay the question, instead choosing to stay root in place.

Then, a new figure strode in, wearing a black undershirt and a leather jacket, with the collar sticking out.

"Call it me being dumb, but is this just a trend? An undershirt, then a jacket? Why does everyone in this house wear a jacket, or outerwear, even when it's hot- which it ALWAYS  is? Why are all the jackets multicolored? Is this fashion in the Devildom?" Chara clicked her tongue, analyzing. You began to notice too. Is it?

"What's with all the racket, you two? HEY, wait a minute! In the microwave..." Mammon pointed towards the microwave, azure oculars gleaming. "It's Goldie, my credit card! My baby! The one thing more important than life itself...!"

"Get it outta there before it demagnetizes!" Mammon desperately ran to the microwave. Levi quickly took it out.

"Mammon, watch what you say... After all, we did find the card for you..." Levi grinned, happy that he finally has the upper hand.

Mammon looks surprised and stumped, and then quiets down.

Levi smiles cunningly. "Do you want your card back, Mammon?"

"YEAH- I mean, yes please, sir!" He begged.

"Then you've got to give me the Seraphina figure you won at the convenience store."

Mammon looked confused, "Sera what..? I don't remember winning anything!"

Levi shot back in disgust. "You are scum, leaving the Queen of High Elves there, muddled with your trash! Disgusting! It's offensive to her! You are scum and a waste of space, Mammon."

Mammon shrugged his shoulders. "Whatever, just find it in my room later, but give me back my credit card!"

Levi nods. "All right, but there's one more condition: I want you to make a pact with the human."

You quickly cut in. "I never agreed to that." Levi glared at you, then continued. "So, Mammon? How about it?"

Mammon nods immediately without hesitation. "Right, a pact, fine." You looked at him in surprise.

"Seriously? He isn't even going to think about it?" Chara scoffed.

"I'm more than happy to do whatever you..." He trailed off, realizing. "WHAT?! Why do you need ME to make a PACT?!"

"Think about it." Levi pointed a cyan-colored fingernail at Mammon. "If Rubina becomes your master, you'll have to obey her. She can order you to give me my money back, and since you can't refuse, you'll do that. Game over, I win!" Levi shot you a dirty look. "But she doesn't seem to want to co-operate."

You pipped up. "How about this? I'll pay you back, instead of Mammon." Chara swerved her head towards you faster then Sans could throw a pun.

"WHAT?" She, Levi, and Mammon shouted in surprise. Levi turned to Mammon. "You didn't force her?"

Mammon kissed his teeth. "Ya think I'm stoopin' as low as that?! Hell no, even I got pride, ya know!"

"It's a peaceful remedy. Mammon isn't chased by debt, and Levi gets his DVD- a win-win." You quietly justified, evading the racial comment about humans.

Levi shrugged, handing the card to Mammon. "Whatever, so long as I get my money back! By the way, he owes me..."

You listened to him, gulping at the amount. "Are you still up for it, human?" Levi smirked, sure you would give in.

Chara lit up. "Here it is! You can back out and-" You nodded determinedly, crushing her hopes.

Levi lost his smirk and huffed. "Huh... you're a strange one, human. Beats having to wait another 200 years, I guess. And if you don't get it back... I'll have you wait for 5 hours in the human realm with no shade in the hot sun for a collector's edition of Ruri-chan, alright?! I mean it!" He left, mumbling to himself.

You decided to head back, having nothing to do AND it being near curfew. You said good night to Mammon and left. You could feel a lecture coming the minute you began walking back.

"My dear, dear Rubina. What did I say about not giving yourself any trouble? You enjoy troubling yourself, don't you?" Chara sighed and waved her hand across your hair.  "At least we know how to get a job and some Grimm."

You arrived at your room, closed the door then slid onto the floor. "You're not mad?" You looked into her eyes.

She shook her head. "Nah. You were just trying to help. There's no harm in that. Besides, we might find someone to talk to, other than the demon brothers."

"Yeah!" You pumped your fist into the air. Imagining you getting more friends filled you with DETERMINATION. Chara laughed cheerily at your antics and soon, you're brushing your teeth.

* MAMMON *

'What was that?' He thought, fiddling with a Grimm absent-mindedly, flipping it through the air over and over. 'The human offered herself to help me?'

Him? The lowly Mammon? The scapegoat of the family? The failure of a demon? And it's only been the fifth day too.  'She probably has a trick up her sleeve.' Mamon convinced himself. 'Yeah, that's it. She's going force me into a pact after that.'

He knew that humans were in essence, greedy. For anything, from material things to the non-material- he's corrupted many using this logic. Despite the aforementioned trail of logic, a small part of his soul was touched by her actions. He puffed out his chest.

'Maybe I'll start callin' her from her name. What was it again, Rubina?' He could feel a smile tug on his lips. ' 'S a nice name.'

(LMAO HOPE Y'ALL ENJOYED)
