Dakota woke up with a start and for a few minutes she stared back into a white oblivion before her eyes re-adjusted with the lighting around her. Realization dawned upon her that something had happened and that she was in terrible danger.
She looked around the small white room and noticed she was lying down on a small white bed that was in the middle of the room she was in. Her heart pounded in her chest when she didn't recognize anything. She lifted her head to take a look at her clothing and noticed how she was dressed, someone had changed her clothing when she was unconscious and immediately she felt sick to her stomach about being exposed to a total stranger. Her gaze wondered over her skin until it landed on a tube that was pierced in her arm and taped in place. The room around her was very clinical looking, vaguely familiar medical equipment was pushed neatly around the room, and not a single thing was out of place.
Wherever she was, these people had a mad case of OCD.
She didn't have a clue of how long she had been laying in the room unconscious for, and the thought alone made her even more sick. She could of been laying there for weeks, days, or maybe even a couple hours.
Upon closer exception, her stomach churned when she noticed how clean she was. Her skin was clear of any sweat, grime, or blood, and yet she felt as fifthly as she imaged the unknown hands that crawled over her skin, removing her previous clothing. It had brought back unwanted memories that she had pushed far back in her mind, hoping that it would never resurface and she would of forgotten it long ago.
Dakota reached down and removed the Iv from her arm with a tug, blood splattered from the tiny needle and then she pushed her feet over the bed and onto the floor. When her bare feet touched the ground, it took a minute to get used to the chill, but slowly she pulled herself out of the tiny bed and advanced forwards the door.
She looked out the window and noticed that there was an empty room directly across from her. Her eyes began frantically searching the room for another living being and her heart beat increased as she began to panic. "Let me out!" She screamed and started to bang on the door with her fists.
She had no idea how long she had stood there, screaming at the top of her lungs, and kicking, hitting the door for anyone to notice her. She had stopped when her voice began to crackle and then she stuck to pacing back and forth. It was only then until she heard the sound of the door clicking indicating that someone was trying to get inside. Her head shot up at the sound and she instantly backed away from the door, fear bubbling into her being. She had no clue who was on the other side of the door, but whoever it was she wasn't going to let them hurt her. Her head shot to the side where her eyes landed on a metal pole that was supplying her IV with saline solution. She grabbed the pole and the bags fell to the floor.
"Dakota Kane, you have been cleared from quarantine," Someone, either a man or a woman, approached in a blue body suit, as if she was some infected animal with a disease. She swung the rod out of panic, which knocked out whoever was in front of her.
But with her luck, two other's dressed in the same suit came running in. She swung again and this time the person ducked but the other one got hit on the side of the head. She struggled as one of them grabbed the medal pole. "Sedate her, she's clearly overwhelmed."
"The hell you will!" Dakota growled out and snatched her arm out of the person's grasp and brought her elbow back into the throat of the man in the suit. The sudden outburst brought herself some time to duck out of the way from an on-coming needle that was going right for her neck. She used her foot to kick the back of the knee of the other person. The third one, who she had knocked out earlier, came to their senses and went to restrain her.
Instead, Dakota swung the needle that she had grabbed and swung it directly into the person's neck, not caring how it went in. She made a run for it, running out of the room. But she had no idea where she was, so when she had picked a random direction, she hoped she was going the right way and not leading herself in more trouble. There were multiple white rooms that were identical to her own, and that's when she came across the Blonde.
"Clarke?" Dakota yelled after her, and she turned around with a girl in her hold, holding a shard of glass to her neck.
Clarke had a look of panic written on her face until she recognized who had called her name, she immediately calmed down. "Dakota.." Clarke breathed.
"What's going on? Where are we?"
"I don't know, but I'm going to find out. Monty's here."
Dakota's jaw dropped. "Monty's here? Oh my god.. he's alive?"
"He was when I saw him, then she appeared." Clarke nudged the dark-haired girl again as they began walking. Dakota mind started filling with hopes that, possibly.. Bellamy and Finn were here too.
"Clarke, you're bleeding." The girl sobbed as Clarke pushed her down a corridor.
"How do you know my name?" Clarke asked angrily.
"It was on your chart."
"How do they know my name?"
"I don't know! Please don't hurt me!"
"Do exactly what we say." Clarke demanded. When the girl reached into the strange blue suit she was wearing, Dakota's eyes narrowed down and she forcefully grabbed her wrist, restraining her from whatever she was grabbing.
"Key card." The girl breathed as she looked up at the older girl with horror in her eyes. "I just need my key card."
Clarke took control again as the door opened. "Which level?"
Dakota watched as the girl pressed the level 5 button. "Who are your people?" Clarke asked. The girl said nothing, only her terrified cries filled the silence. "Answer me! How many of us are here? Where are they? Say something!"
The girl continued sobbing, looking between Clarke and Dakota.
Arrived, level 5
The elevator chimed as it opened and Clarke immediately forced her forward, stopping at the sound of chatter. There was a room full of well dressed people, taking among themselves, plates of food lining the tables.
One women seemed to notice the three girls as she stood up, horrified. "Containment breach! Containment breach!"
The brunette girl managed to escape from Clarke's grip as panic broke out in what they had assumed was a dinning hall. Dakota's ears heard the clicks of guns as a group of guards appeared, weapons trained on the two of them. Dakota shoved Clarke behind her with no hesitation. "Where the hell are we?" Clarke whispered from behind her.
***
Suddenly the door opened as Clarke and Dakota struggled against their restrains. Currently they were both tied down by their hands while they sat at the end of the beds
"Hello Clarke, Dakota." People came in from the door, and a dark-skinned women spoke up with confidence. "How is your arm?"
"Not much of a talker, is she?" The woman commented as Clarke refused to speak. "A skill picked up from the savages, no doubt. That's fine, Maya has something to say first anyway." The white haired man spoke confidently and kindly.
"You were the next two to be cleared through quarantine, another ten minutes and you would have-'
The man cleared his throat and Maya sighed. "I'm not pressing charges."
"Thank you Maya, you can get your treatment now." Dakota watched as the doctor sent Maya away to one of the beds, the girl casting a curious look one last time.
"Restraints aren't necessary."
"Yes, Mr. President." One of the guards stationed in the room unclipped both Clarke and Dakota's wrists.
"Dante Wallace." He held out his hand for Clarke to shake, and after casting a curious glance at his streaked hands, "Oil paint. Yes, that's right, you're an artist too."
"Who told you that?" Clarke questioned as she stood up, Dakota moving quickly to her side.
"Your people did. They also said you were their leader. Looks like you and I have a lot in common."
"Where's my watch?" Clarke asked.
"I'm sorry, but we can't let contaminated items inside Mount Weather, we couldn't risk it."
"How many of us did you capture?" Clarke asked.
"Forty-eight, including the two of you. But you've got it all wrong, you're not prisoners. We saved you."
"Well, in that case you won't mind if we leave." Dakota spoke up in a cold tone, untrusting of the man standing in front of her. "If there are forty-eight of us here, we still have people out there."
"The patrol brought in everyone they could find."
"What about the Ark?" Clarke questioned.
"We saw it. There were multiple crash sites over 100 square miles. If there were survivors we will bring them in too. You have my word."
"I want to see my people."
"Of course you do. I would too." A large case was wheeled over to the two girls. "Change, and meet me in the hall." The President spoke and turned around.
Dakota glanced over at Clarke. "I don't like this." She whispered over, looking back at the girl who was still on the bed.
"Neither do I, but we need to find our people." Clarke looked at her before picking up a high heel. Dakota watched with curious eyes and then looked back at Maya, while Clarke cracked the heel off the shoe.
****
Clarke and Dakota walked down a hallway until reaching an elevator. They both got inside but before the door closed, Dante somehow found out that Clarke had a heel stuffed in her sweater. He looked at Dakota and she smirked.
"I don't need a silly little heel to defend myself. My fists work just fine." She gave him a snarky reply before he took Clarke's heel and we went down to level 5.
The guards guided them to a room where figures were bunched together as one of the Mount Weather residents filled them in on their new home.
"You came from level three, which houses our medical facility-"
"Clarke!"
Dakota almost squealed at seeing the familiar face rushing through the crowd to get over to Clarke and her. He pulled Clarke into a hug until his eyes landed on Dakota.
"Dakota." Monty breathed and grabbed onto the older girl, pulling her into a hug.
"I thought you were dead.." Dakota looked at him with a smile as he pulled away from her.
Jasper was the one to come up to her next and pull her into a hug with a huge grin on his face. "Kota.. you two had me worried."
"Jasp.." She smiled as he pulled away.
"Finn and Bellamy?" Clarke asked, concerned. Dakota's head turned to look at Clarke and she felt her heart sink from the look on Jasper's face.
She bit down on her bottom lip and turned around so no one could see the tear that escaped her eye. But she didn't go unnoticed as Monty walked around Clarke and placed himself in front of Dakota. He frowned at her and put his hand under her chin, forcing her to look up at him with tears in her eyes.
"Clarke they... they didn't make it."
"We don't know that." Clarke denied, and Jasper nodded. "What about Raven."
More silence followed and that's when Dakota had noticed that she was completely alone in this mountain. Everyone that she had possibly cared about were gone and most likely dead.
"Welcome Clarke, and Dakota. If you have any questions, I'm Keenan." The girl who had been speaking earlier handed Clarke a folder. Monty had looked up when Dakota didn't bother turning around to receive her folder, so Monty took the folder for her and passed it to her. Dakota managed to give him a weak smile and took the folder from his hands
"Well, this map says there's a mess hall, and I don't know about you, but I'm starving." Monty said, trying to bring the mood back up. Dakota nodded at him, allowing herself to show a little happiness, even though she was breaking on the inside.
***
"They gave us a map with no exits. I need you to tell me everything you've seen. Every room, every hallway, every way out." Clarke looked between Jasper and Monty.
They just arrived at the Mess hall, and everything looked too good to be true. Jasper insisted that Dakota would try to eat something, but she shook it off. Her stubborn self wouldn't let her eat, but according to Jasper, the food was so good but to Dakota, it was probably laced with some unknown drugs that the mole rat-looking president had made up.
"Way out? Look around you, Clarke. There's no one hunting us, first time in our lives we aren't hungry, why would we want to leave?"
"Because we have friends out there that need our help."
"They're looking for survivors." Monty chimed in. "and they're way better equipped to find them than we are."
Clarke shook her head. "This place is too good to be true."
"You're bumming me out. I'm- I'm gonna get more cake."
Dakota watched Jasper walk off, noticing Maya sitting alone in the direction Jasper had headed. She sighed and looked back at Clarke. "What's your plan, Princess?"
****
About two minutes after they escaped the clutches of level 5 dinning hall, suddenly, an alarm started to blare and a yellow light flashed from netted hazard lights on the ceiling with an automated voice overhead announcing. "Alert! Code 5"
"Not a prisoner, my ass." Dakota muttered under her breath.
Clarke grabbed the girl's hand tightly. "Come on! We have to go!"
The two of them ran down the empty halls, Clarke's sneakers touching softly on the concrete. they ran, trying to lose the guards that appeared on either side of them. Clarke scanned Maya's key card to access a restricted door that led them to a large amount of steps going up, and down.
"Oh, Jesus Christ." Dakota's mouth gaped open at the sight of the stairs. Clarke pulled on some wires, and electricity began to explode out of them.
She glanced at Clarke who gestured towards the flight of stairs that were going up, and they started climbing. They rounded a corner and Clarke ran to the lever while Dakota began to spin the wheel on the door. Clarke looked over at Dakota, and with a nod, she reached for the lever.
"Clarke, no! If you pull that lever these people will die, even a little radiation can kill them." Jasper and Maya appeared, and Dakota watched as Maya pulled out a gun, pointing it at Clarke. "Don't make me shoot you."
"I'm sorry, what?" The petite girl stood with the gun in her hand, but it was clear that she was afraid to use it. Dakota swung her leg out, and knocked the gun from her hands, She spun her around and grabbed a fistful of her hair.
"Don't do this, Dakota." Jasper pleaded.
"Jasper, they are lying to us!" Dakota screamed out, trying to make the boy listen to her but he wouldn't give in.
"Why would they lie?" Jasper pushed calmly, trying to reason. "Listen to me, we're safe here. Because of you and Clarke, we are safe."
"No, we're not," she countered. "We're not.. we're not all safe, Jasp." she said, beginning to choke on her own words as she remembered that she left Bellamy behind. She should of waited for him, or she should of been on the other side of the door.
Jasper looked at Dakota as pity began to fill his eyes. "I should of.. I should of told him I loved him, and now it's too late!"
Jasper's eyes began to fill up with tears. "I'm the one that fired the rockets. Should I not have done that?" He asked, his breath shaking. Jasper looked back and Clarke when Dakota didn't answer. "Clarke, when you pulled that lever, you saved lives. Don't throw that away by pulling this one."
Clarke had tears in her eyes, forming at the corners and threatening to flow out as she lowered her hand from the lever. Clarke looked back, unable to meet his eyes as the tears flowed down her cheeks. Jasper glanced over at Dakota.
"You didn't kill Anya back in the drop ship," He reminded. "Because that isn't who you are, no matter what happens."
Dakota looked up at Jasper, meeting his eyes as her hold on Maya loosened. Tears began to spill out of the girl's eyes as the guards emerged and ran after the two teenagers. The minute they had reached them, they were harsh and vile causing Dakota to flinch away from their touch. They forced Clarke and Dakota to the ground to avoid them hurting anyone else and they clicked the handcuffs onto both of their wrists.
