Chapter Four - Reapercussions✓
Reapers. Dakota remembered hearing the Reapers that Clarke and Finn brought in while fighting the Grounders. She remembered they were nasty looking people, and brutal fighters and they didn't spare anyone. Clarke and Dakota turned to Anya who was walking over to a small pile of large rocks near the wall opposite to the bin.
"Hey! Anya, you can't fight. You can hardly stand." Clarke protested, pulling the grounder woman away from the rocks.
Clarke sent a desperate look around, searching for an answer before her eyes set upon the cart. "Come on, I have a better idea." As she helped Anya climb back into the cart, Dakota picked up the clothes and the shoes that they had stole and threw them in the bin. She quickly pulled herself into the cart just as the Reapers turned the corner and came into view.
Dakota looked over at Clarke with wild eyes, her hand stuck out slowly to grab a hold of Dakota's. For several minutes, the three of them laid in silence, listening to the Reapers approach. The sounds of the Reapers dissipated as they walked away and Dakota lifted a questionable eyebrow at Clarke, to which she nodded at. It was time to get on the move, and get out of here.
But just when Clarke and Dakota began to sit up, a shark shadow passed over the top of them and suddenly a body dropped into the cart making the three girls jump, but for their life they didn't scream. The half-dead corpse landed right on top of Dakota, but she didn't move an inch. There was another grunt, after which came another body. This time, the Grounder did not only lay on her stomach, but over Clarke's head.
The Reaper's began speaking with one another, and then the cart began to move along the train tracks they have seen earlier beneath their feet, taking them to the unknown. The three girls had no idea how long the cart was moving, but when it came to a halt, two Reapers appeared overhead. Dakota shut her eyes, not wanting to look at the faces of the Reapers. She took a sharp inhale when she felt that one of the crushing bodies had been lifted off of Clarke and her. The Reapers moved away, and after they did, there was a blood piercing scream that filled the air and then the sounds of a knife ripping through flesh.
Clarke lifted herself stealthily from underneath the second body that was covering Dakota, and she managed to peek her head out of the cart to observe the situation around them. Quickly, Clarke turned back around and silently grunted as she lifted the half-dead body off of Dakota, rolling the Grounder onto his stomach, and reaching for the girl's hand while glancing back over at Anya.
"Come on," Clarke urged Anya as Dakota moved to get out of the cart again. Anya, though weak and in clear immediate danger, got onto her knees and put her hands around the Grounder's face beside her.
Clarke turned back around as she witnessed Anya disobey her demands. "What are you doing? Let's go!"
Anya didn't respond. Instead, she looked down at the near-dead Grounder and grumbled a sentence in the foreign language the Grounder's spoke. After the words were said, Anya snapped the Grounder's neck without fail, a single cracking sound in the wake of the Grounder's demise.
Afterwards, Anya wasted no time. She climbed out of the cart while Clarke followed after Dakota and Anya tossed the clothing out onto the ground so they could change before their escape. They headed down the first opening they saw in the caves and didn't look back.
After a good five minutes of running, they stopped and began putting on the clothes. "Damn it! This place is a maze!" Clarke cursed as they turned a curb.
Dakota pulled a shirt over her head and noticed that it was too big, and ended up ripping the bottom of it off, resulting in showing a little more skin than she anticipated. She then grabbed a jacket and slipped it on over her shoulders as did Clarke. Dakota looked over at Anya who just slipped on a jacket and a pair of pants over her white attire that they gave her in Mount Weather so she can be prepared as a blood donor.
As Clarke moved to go forward, Dakota heard Anya slow down behind her and start to cough.
"What are they doing to us?" Anya asked, making Clarke pause in her attempts to figure out where we were. Dakota leaned against the tunnel wall, watching them as she tied up her combat boots.
"They're using your blood," Clarke explained. Anya glanced down at her arm, where a bloody bandage was wrapped around her elbow. "I saw a soldier come in with radiation burns. Hours later, he was fine. It's like your blood is healing them somehow. I've never seen anything like it." Clarke saw another tunnel ahead and started hurrying towards it. "Come on, this way."
Instead of following Clarke, Anya turned and started heading in the opposite direction. Clarke turned back around and caught Anya's arm.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Clarke demanded. Anya just blinked at her.
"You go your way," Anya told Clarke, turning once again to walk away. "I'll go mine." Clarke pulled her back again.
"Are you insane? We need to stay together!"
"Jesus, Clarke! If she want's to be their midday snack, let her be it. I'm not sticking around for her ass, waiting to get eaten."
Clarke glanced over at Dakota with a stern look on her face before Anya spoke. "I told you, there is no 'we'."
"I saved your life!" Clarke protested.
"You saved my life because you need me. I know the way back to your people. I know where the traps are hidden. You'd never make it alone." She growled and Clarke shook her head.
"We don't have time for this." Finally, she turned around and jogged over to Dakota who was waiting. "Our best chance of making it out of here alive is together. All we can do is keep moving and hope-" Dakota turned as Clarke stopped talking suddenly.
"Anya?" Clarke took a step forward, but Dakota grabbed onto the blonde's arm.
"If we go back for her, we won't make it back alive." She snapped at Clarke, who searched my eyes, realising the truth in the girls words. "Let's go." She said desperately.
She looked back briefly, and then they both started running down the tunnel. After a few minutes of running, Clarke turned down a tunnel but then she had backed up into Dakota who turned to follow her down. Clarke backed her up as horror inflicted in her eyes, and they both turned back to the direction they had come from, but a Reaper had appeared seemingly out of nowhere. They ran down the path ahead, only to come across another group of Reapers.
"No," Clarke whimpered as Dakota stared back, her eyes widening in fear as her back hit the cave wall.
"Fuck!" She cursed and expected for the Reapers to tear them both in hald, but the Reapers recoiled as a high-pitched noise sounded around the tunnels.
"Get back! Get the hell away from them now!" Mount Weather soldiers came towards them, not worried about the Reapers.
"Clarke Griffin, Dakota Kane, you're coming with us." One of the soldiers commanded. The guard yanked Dakota away from the wall roughly as the other grabbed a hold of Clarke.
"Get the hell off me, you fucking loser." Dakota screamed, trying to yank her arm from the mans hold but his hold around her arm had only tightened which made her yelp in pain. They made the girls walk back towards the black door, going back into Mount Weather.
"I saw everything." Clarke threatened, "I know what you're doing to them." The guard holding her scoffed, almost amused sounding.
"That's why you're both going in the harvest chamber with them." He announced. Dakota tugged on her arm again, and this time forcefully.
The guards arm loosened around her arm, and she swung her joined hands together, hitting him in the head. "This one has some fight in her." One of the guards sneered as she was then slammed up against the wall.
"Of course I do. I'm a Kane." Dakota snapped back. Suddenly a loud cry sounded, and Anya jumped from the bin behind them. She landed on the guard that was holding Dakota, and he let go of her arms.
She turned around just in time to see Clarke had pulled the mask off of the guard who had been holding her down, keeping her from running off. "His mask!" Clarke cried out.
Anya walked over to one of the guards, about to take off his mask but Dakota had got in front of her and pulled her back. "No, he's mine." She growled and sent a kick into the mans chest. The man flew backwards from the impact and fell onto the ground. Dakota grabbed a hold of the mask and ripped it off of his head. "Sorry, I couldn't stay. Give my regards, if you manage to make it." She snapped as the guard screamed in pain as his whole face was exposed to the radiation.
"Come on, I found a way out!" Anya announced, taking off down the corridor.
Dakota didn't waste any time following after her after picking up one of the guns that was dropped from the guard. Just as she picked it up and started running after Clarke and Anya, the door behind her clicked, indicating that there were more guards coming after them.
The three girls ran, following Anya down the caves to where she said she found the way out. Dakota hoped that she wasn't leading them into a death trap. The three girls came to a halt when they reached a cliff. Dakota leaned over to take a look, there was a waterfall between them and freedom that was at least a thousand feet up in the air. One jump, and they all would be sent into the water below.
"Wait! There has to be another way!" Clarke yelled in panic her voice booming over the sound of rushing water as the footsteps of the Mountain Men echoed from behind her.
"There isn't!" Anya told her, yelling back.
"Just give up, girls. There's no place else to go!" The three girls turned as The Mountain Men approached, dressed in protection suits with masks and rifles in hand. Dakota dug her fingernails in the palm of her hand as Clarke looked over at her in panic.
Clarke turned back at Anya, but the Grounder jumped faster than Clarke could say anything to protest. "Anya!" Clarke screamed, but she was already halfway down.
"Clarke, that fall could kill us," Dakota informed her with a hard swallow.
"We won't have to kill you. You hear me? It doesn't gave to end like this, Clarke. Dakota." They both turned around to see more Mountain Men had gathered, and they pointed their guns at them. "Just surrender! Hands up!"
Dakota glanced over at Clarke who gave her a small nod, and with a deep breath, Dakota dropped the gun on the ground beside her. Clarke and her both brought their hands up and surrendered. The guards lowered their weapons and the order was given to arrest them both. Dakota quickly looked over at Clarke with a smirk on her face, and the two ladies joined hands.
"Adios bitches!" Dakota yelled on the top of her lungs. The world around them seemed to slow down as they both sprinted towards the cliff.
