Chapter Eighteen - Rubicon Pt. 1

Clarke and I walked through the hallways of the Ark station, Grounder's trailing behind us as we made our way towards the airlock that was holding one of the Mountain Men. We managed to heal the man enough to be up and moving around, but he was still confined to the room or he would die.

One of Abby's guards steps away from his post as we approached. I held up my hand while giving him a dangerous look. "Don't even think about it." The man stood back with his eyes narrowing.

I watched as Clarke stepped towards the air lock, keeping her face void of emotion as she addressed the Mountain Man. "Get dressed, you're coming with us."

Once the man was in his hazmat suit, our group strides though the Ark station emerging into the night air. We move across the open lawn approaching the electrified gate.

"Clarke, stop!" Abby calls out across the space, stopping us with a few of her guards standing behind her.

"No. I'm letting the prisoner go." Clarke stood her ground and I smiled slightly at her.

"Absolutely not."

"He hasn't told us anything yet." Kane adds stepping up beside the new Chancellor.

"He doesn't have to. He's gonna tell them something."

Abby narrows her eyes not deviating them from her daughter. "Get the prisoner back to the air lock. Now."

A guard nods. "Yes, Ma'am." He starts to move forward, but I and the other grounders unsheathe our weapons.

Clarke stares her mother in the eye. "You may be the Chancellor, but I'm in charge."

Abby looks taken back as her gaze shifted to the Grounder's leader behind us. "Indra, tell your people to stand down before this get's out of hand."

The dark skinned woman holds her head high. "No."

"People could get hurt." Abby tries to reason, but they don't back down.

"People are already getting hurt." I exclaim, drawing the attention towards me. "Our people. And we're not going to continue to let that happen."

Clarke nods in agreement. "You need to trust that I know what's right for us."

"The Grounders trust Clarke and Dakota." Kane speaks up at Abby's side. "Maybe we should, too."

Abby stands there for a second contemplating her next move. "Stand down." She voices causing the Ark guards to back away lowering their own weapons.

I smile as Clarke and I begin walking towards the electrified fence. "Open the gate. Now." Clarke shouts watching the guards open the large slab of metal. She spins on her heel facing the Mountain Man. "Can you hear me alright? Because I need to make sure you get this."

He nods reluctantly. "Loud and clear."

"I have a message for your leader." Clarke starts. "We're coming for him. You're watching us, but you haven't seen a thing. The Grounder army is bigger than you think, and even if you could find it, your acid fog can't hurt them. And now, thanks to you.." She holds up a small decide sounding a high pitched tone. "Neither can the Reapers. So, you can have one last chance. Let our people go, and we'll let you live. It's just that simple."

"I got it." The man answers.

I hold up my hand as he makes a move to leave. "And another thing." I walk forward ripping the tube feeding him oxygen into his suit. Pressing down the lever, air begins to flow out of the hose. Once the gauge reads six,  "That eight hour walk?" I shove the item back into place. "You're going to do it in six."

His eyes widen. "Six hours? That's not enough. How am I suppose to deliver your message?"

I shrug. "Sounds like a personal problem to me. Now get going."

The Mountain Man turns away from us trudging into the forest surrounding the camp

The next day, I paced back and forth of the training area where Grounders were training. Bellamy was late, I knew because I kept checking in with Raven every ten minutes. Clarke agreed upon him checking in every three hours, but the time came and went without a word.

Dozens of thoughts were running through my mind, mostly negative.

"Alright." Nyko's voice reached my ears. "You are putting me on edge." He exclaims as he walked over with an apple in his hand. "Either sit down somewhere, or I'm tying you to a chair."

I rolled my eyes. "You could try." I said and stopped in front of the Grounder healer. "Can you fight?"

Nyko gave me an amused smile. "Is that a trick question?"

My lips twisted up into a small smile. "It was a stupid question." I chuckled. "I need something to distract me and you're the least intimidating person here." I gave him a sheepish grin.

He narrowed his eyes at me. "I don't know how I should take that."

I shrugged and placed my sword on the nearby log. "You're like a giant teady bear." I said while putting my fists up in front of me.

Nyko gave me this look before he unsheathed his weapons from himself. 'Alright, Sky Girl. Let's see what your are made of."

"Daun nou frag ai op jos teik ai mou tripi."   I spoke and Nyko smiled slightly at me.

"It fits. You are a strange one, Sky Girl." He said before he swung a fist at me. I dodged and slithered my way to the other side of Nyko, who turned around sharply and continued. "Who is this that you sulk after?"

We circled each other as if we were sharks in a tank. Heads were turning while I moved mine in a shrug like gesture. "I'm not sulking." I swiftly kicked forward, but Nyko rolled over the maneuver to the side. I turned to face him.

"You are and you are putting my people on edge with your constant walking."

"My boyfriend is in Mount Weather, being our inside man and he hasn't radioed in yet."

"He will."

"Have you ever loved someone, Nyko?"

Nyko dropped a punch, but I grabbed his wrist and twisted it over my shoulder and took my knee to his back, forcing him on the ground. Nyko winced and hissed, "I have."

"Have?" I questioned his past tense.

Just as I was about to reset our match, Nyko took me by surprise by wrapping two fingers around my wrist and flipped the switch, falling backwards onto me and flipping over quickly to gain the advantage. He moved to pin my hands as his mouth opened to answer my question. "Yes, have. She's.. gone."

"I'm sorry, that must be difficult for you." I said and Nyko's face softened. I took his as an distraction, knowing his mind was else wear. I broke free of one of his legs that had kept me on the ground and bent my knee to kick him in the thigh, lowering his defences enough so I could flip him onto his back and stand up, getting away from the tricky situation he had placed me in.

"She waits for me." Nyko said while getting off the ground and I held out my fists in front of my face. At this point, every Grounder and the Guard Members were looking at us as an example. Indra in the back with a small smile on her face. A few hits were thrown before I spoke up again, half breathless.

"In death?" I questioned him.

He gave me a quick nod as he grabbed my arm and whipped me around so that my back was to his chest and his arm was enclosed around my throat. My fingers ached to keep his arm from smothering my airway.

"I wish my love life was as dedicated as yours." I managed to get the upper hand. I bent my back and smoothly flipped Nyko so hard onto the ground that he landed with a concerning thud, unable to continue the match.

I was briefly concerned for the man, but that went away as I remembered he defiantly had bigger thuds like this in the past. He would be sore in the morning though. Everyone around us began clapping and I extended a hand down to Nyko but instead he swept his foot back and caused me to fall on my ass.

"Love takes time, you can't rush it." The crowd began to disperse in order to continue themselves, I lifted myself off of the ground as Nyko walked towards his weapons.

"Mochof." I thanked him, "I needed a talk." I dusted off my pants and looked up at Nyko who turned his head to look at me.

"Hey, Dakota, can I talk to you?" Clarke's voice interrupted Nyko who was just about to speak.

I looked at Clarke for a moment and grabbed my sword from the log. I gave a look towards Nyko to say that I would come back and continue this.

I walked with Clarke in another direction. "What's wrong? Shouldn't you be heading out to Tondc soon?"

"I was, but I'm not going anymore." I cocked an eyebrow worriedly. "I just talked to Bellamy. Something is happening to our people in Mount Weather. They're taking them somewhere, most likely to cages like the ones where we found Anya."

My eyes widened. "What are we going to do? What is Bellamy going to do?"

"I told him to find them. But we still need to focus on the acid fog.."

"One thing at a time, Princess."

"I know." Clarke crossed her arms. "And like I said, I'm not going to Tondc anymore. I'm going to stay here to make sure that Bellamy finds them and I'm going to help him get them out."

I nodded my head. "Great. I'll help you-"

"No, Dakota. I don't need you here, I need you there." Clarke reached out and grabbed my arm from going in the direction to the mechanics room where the room was. I looked at the younger blonde confused. "Look, I asked Kane to go.. but even though I know Lexa trusts him, I need you to represent me. I know you don't agree with my methods, but I know that you want Bellamy out of that mountain more than anyone. And I know that you also agree with my alliance with the Grounders,"

I sighed out of frustration. "Alright."

"Lexa will protect you. I made sure of it." My eyes narrowed down at her. "Not that you need.. protection or anything, I'm just saying.. she's got your back if you need it. Nyko can join you too."

I stood quietly for a moment and I nodded slightly. I smiled slightly before walking away from Clarke and to where I last left Nyko.

"You up for a trip to Tondc?" I asked as I approached Nyko, who looked up from sharping his sword.

"Your friend Clarke was suppose to attend that." He cocked an eyebrow.

"Change of plans. My father and I are going in her place. You coming?"

"You know, Sky Child.. I'm not allowed to leave the camp without Indra's orders."

"Well, your in luck because I happen to be on good sides with Indra."

A/N: Two updates in one day? When I start writing, I can't stop because I want to continue watching the 100. I hope you guys liked this chapter, and I love the fact that Dakota is getting close with Nyko since he was one of my favorite Grounders. <3.  4-6 chapters left until this book comes to an end and we can start up Season 3, which I'm super excited for!

"Daun nou frag ai op jos teik ai mou tripi."  - "That which does not kill me just makes me stranger."
