Chapter 8
After a short drive of silence, my mom and I arrived at The Brown's. I hopped out of the car and went over to the house. Mom caught up with me, and then I rang the doorbell. Immediately the door opened. A boy with sunglasses, dark brown hair, and black clothing stood there.
It must be Hayden. Hayden yelled, "Mom! The guests are here!" Adults came up to my mom and greeted her. Hayden grabbed my arm and pulled me up the stairs.
"Come on!" he said. "Let's go to my room."
We entered his room. It was a room with dark blue painted walls, a black loft bed, and Minecraft drawings decked all over his room.
"There is my drawings!" he said.
I walked over to a drawing with me and Herobrine fighting.
"Cool drawing," I said to Hayden.
"Yes," Hayden said. "That's a drawing with Steve and m- I mean Herobrine."
"So you like Minecraft?" I said casually. "Oh yes," he said. "It's my life."
"I love it too," I said. "I'm Steve, by the way."
"I'm Hayden," he said. "Want me to show you something that I built on Minecraft?"
"Sure!" I exclaimed.
He got on Minecraft and pulled up his place. It was one of the most amazing places I've ever seen. Majestic palaces were everywhere.
"Wow," I said. "You built all of this?"
"Yes," Hayden said. "Every brick."
He showed me around. While he was doing so, I noticed that he never took off his sunglasses. I wonder why. I'm going to ask.
"Hey Hayden," I said.
He looked up from the game. "Hm?"
"Just out of curiosity, why do you always wear those sunglasses?"
Hayden shrugged.
I extended my arm. "Do you want me to take them-"
Suddenly, I got knocked on the ground on my belly. All of the air was knocked out of me.
I laid there for a minute, shocked. Why would Hayden do that to me? I sat back up, annoyed.
"Dude, why did you do that?" I asked him.
I couldn't tell his expression, because he had his sunglasses.
"I- um," Hayden stuttered.
"I have to go to the bathroom," I said.
But I really didn't. I just needed to get away. I walked into the bathroom and shut the door. Down stairs I heard my mom and Hayden's mom talking. I listened closely.
"I'm really worried about Hayden. He hasn't acted the same since we moved here."
That was Hayden's mom.
"I'm sure he's just sad and misses his old home."
That was my mom.
"But he's been acting creepy, he always wears sunglasses now for some reason and talks with menace and coldness," Hayden's mom said.
I could hear my mom sigh.
"I don't know, Carla, he might just be angry at you. Steve was a bit... edgy the first few days after we moved here." Mom said.
"I hope you're right," Carla said.
Mom said, "We best be going now. I have to make dinner."
"Okay," Carla said. "Nice meeting you."
"STEVE!" Mom called. "Time to go!"
I opened the door from the bathroom and ran downstairs. My mom and I said our goodbyes, and left. Right when we got in the car my mom said, "So what do you think about Hayden?"
"He's alright, I guess," I shrugged.
"Just remember its hard for him, he's just moved here. I'm sure he thinks you'd be a good friend," Mom said.
Really? I thought. Then why did you punch me?
We arrived home, and I was so tired. I stumbled up the stairs and in my room. I fell on top of my bed.
This day would never be a day I would forget.
