Chapter 26
"Not so fast," the figure growled.
The figure was standing on four legs, it had two wings and a pair of purple eyes that glared at us.
"That's Ender," Ashton whispered.
"If you want to get through me," Ender said. "You will have to fight me."
He immediately flew up into the air and started shooting flamethrowers at us.
"He didn't do this in the game!" Ashton cried out in alarm.
"Well, he's doing it now!" I said. "Everybody, get your weapons ready!"
Hayden started rapidly shooting the towers with his bow.
"I got the healing towers," he said.
Paige clutched the baby close, protecting it. Ender started to swoop down.
"He's swooping down! I'm going to attack him!" Ashton shouted.
I blocked Ashton.
"I got this," I said.
I ran as fast as I could and jumped onto Ender's back. He growled in rage and tried to throw me off. I stabbed him in the back and Ender let out a scream.
"Just like your brother," Ender said. "You look so much like him. What a shame you didn't turn out like him, and helped him take over."
"The human world is my home too!" I yelled. "And I'm going to defend it from my brother! And you!"
"Is that so?" Ender said. "Try me."
I had a feeling he was leading me into some kind of trap, so I didn't move at all.
"You don't want to move?" Ender asked. "Then I'll go!"
He turned upside down and tried to shake me off. I could feel the blood rushing to my head, but I still held on firmly. After a while my grip started getting looser, because my head was starting to hurt really bad.
"Hayden!" I cried out. "Shoot him!"
An arrow whizzed towards his body and hit him. But Hayden didn't stop there. He kept firing again and again. Ender turned back over and started flying and dodging them.
I could tell by all of those hits Ender was getting weaker.
"Give it up, Ender," I said. "It's over."
I stabbed him and he started flying lower.
"Fool," he said, weariness showing in his voice. "I can heal! And if I can heal, you'll never be able to defeat me! Never!"
Ender started flying towards one of the towers that hadn't been destroyed yet.
Panicked, I started rapidly slashing at the dragon. I have to kill him before he gets to the healing tower! I thought. Hayden has to shoot it, but he's too away! And if he tried to catch up, Ender would burn him! I guess I'll have to kill him before he gets to it.
I slashed some more at his back.
Then, I heard someone land on Ender's back next to me. I turned around and saw that it was Ashton!
"Did ya miss me?" he said.
"Ashton!?" I exclaimed. "How the heck did you get up here?"
"Well, to make a long story short, I brought a few feet of vines with me in my pockets the day we went mining," Ashton explained. "And I forgot that I had it with me until now."
"You had vines with you the whole time!?" I yelled. "It could've came in handy in... let's say all of our close death moments!"
"Okay, okay, geez," Ashton said. "I admit that was a bit stupid, but Hayden gave me his bow and arrows before I climbed up one of the towers and saved your neck! But I never really took archery before, so..."
"Oh, give me that!" I said.
I took it out of his hands and shot the last active healing tower.
"Noooo!" Ender screamed.
"Let's finish him," Ashton said.
I raised my sword and stabbed him for the final time. All of a sudden, his body started exploding.
"Jump!" I shouted to Ashton.
We both jumped off the exploding Ender's back and landed. I winced in pain, but shook it off.
I saw a black egg right next to me. I put it in my pocket.
"Come on!" I said.
We all ran to the portal. One by one we each went through the portal. Paige stopped to wait for me.
"Together." she said.
I nodded and took her hand, and then walked forward. Bright light filled my eyes, and we fell out of Hayden's laptop.
"Hey..." Ashton said slowly. "Isn't that my laptop?"
"No," Hayden said. "That's my laptop."
"Where did you get it?" Ashton asked.
"At a garage sale a month before I moved away."
"My parents must've sold it," Ashton muttered.
"Oh my gosh..." I heard Paige whisper.
She was looking out of a window.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
She pointed at the window. "That."
I looked out the window. Houses were on fire, and monsters were attacking people. It was complete chaos.
"Let's get down to business," I said.
"Paige and Hayden, you go and get the baby to a good home," I ordered. "Ashton and I will take on Herobrine."
Paige and Hayden nodded and went on their way.
"Let's go!" Ashton said.
•••••••••••••••••••
Walking through the streets was a nightmare. There were monsters causing destruction everywhere.
"Where would Herobrine be?" I asked Ashton.
"Somewhere where he could take over," Ashton said. "Probably the mayor's office or something."
"Yeah," I said. "We should head there."
I heard a faraway cackle.
"Ashton, was it just me-"
Nope, I heard it too." Ashton said.
We stood there, not knowing what to say or do for a few seconds. Then we just broke into a run towards the City Hall.
••••••••••••••••••
We arrived at the front of the City Hall. Ashton and I snuck in and hid behind a couch.
I heard the voice of the mayor and Herobrine.
"Don't you see, mayor? I have an army of monsters. You have an army of humans. You are powerless against me, so why not give up your space in the City Hall and let me rule?" Herobrine said.
"I am not letting a thirteen year old child barge in and threaten my spot as mayor!" the mayor yelled. "This must be some kind of joke. I mean, you're a kid. Kids can't rule the world... right? And those monsters must be kids dressed up as monsters!"
The mayor laughed. "It is a joke! Now, run along, kid, we need to clean up this mess."
I heard a thump. That must've been the mayor.
"Those monsters are very much real," Herobrine said, gritting his teeth. "And my name isn't 'kid'. It's Herobrine, ruler of Minecraft!"
The mayor giggled. "Kids these days... Isn't Minecraft a video game kids play?"
Herobrine ignored the question.
"You just don't get it, do you?" he said. "I have a army of monsters with me. I can show you right now."
He snapped his fingers. And then I heard an explosion.
"Oh..." the mayor said.
"And now is your time of doom," Herobrine said.
"He's gonna kill him!" Ashton whispered. "We have to make a move now!"
I stood up from my crouching position, as did Ashton.
"Not if I can help it," I said.
Herobrine lowered his knife and stared at me with awe. "But how...?"
"I have my ways," I said.
I pulled out my diamond sword. "Now, let's finish what we started."
Ashton pulled out his sword too. "I'm with him."
Herobrine pointed his dagger at me. "Fine. Let's finish this."
He teleported.
"He went to the roof!" Ashton exclaimed.
"How do you know?" I asked.
"I just have this feeling!" Ashton said. "Let's go!"
We ran out of the building and threw Ashton's vine up and climbed up it. The building was very high up. When we arrived at the top of the roof, Herobrine was there, waiting for us.
He pulled out his dagger and charged at us. I pulled out my sword and stabbed him.
"Ha!" Herobrine said. "You can't hurt me! Nobody can!"
"Oh really?" I said. "Ashton, get him."
"My pleasure." Ashton said smugly.
He tackled Herobrine and started punching him and stabbing him. Herobrine did the same to Ashton.
Then, Ashton rolled over, blood dripping out of his body. He was stabbed. Hard.
"And now to deal with you," Herobrine said to me.
He started approaching me. I backed up. He kept moving towards me. I kept backing up. We kept doing that until we were at the very edge of the rooftop.
"You have been nothing but trouble since the day I met you," Herobrine said to me. "I've always hated you since the day we were spawned."
"Really?" I asked. "Because we got along just fine when we were younger, Briney."
Herobrine flinched when he heard that name. Then his eyes flashed with rage.
"My name isn't Briney," he yelled. "It's HEROBRINE!"
He then pushed me off the building.
Normally in Minecraft when you got pushed off of heights you would get hurt, and then eat food and be better again. But this wasn't Minecraft. This was the human world. And I wasn't just going to get hurt. I was going to die. For real.
I braced myself for when I felt like I was going to hit he ground soon.
Suddenly, my pocket started glowing. The glowing got bigger and bigger. What was happening? I quickly took the glowing out of my pocket and it started falling.
There goes the glowing... I thought.
I was about to hit the ground. I shut my eyes and counted down ten seconds. When I was done counting, I still hadn't hit the ground yet. What is going on?
I opened my eyes to find I was on the back of a baby enderdragon. How did that happen? I thought. Oh wait... It must've been the black egg I picked up in The End!
I looked down. Herobrine was slowly approaching Ashton with his dagger. I steered my dragon down towards Ashton.
"What the..." I heard Herobrine say.
I grabbed Ashton and my dragon flew upward again.
"How did you get a dragon?" Ashton asked weakly.
"I found it after we beat Ender." I replied. "Now, Ashton, I'm going to swoop down again, so when I do, dive onto Herobrine and give him the final blow."
Ashton nodded. "Got it."
I steered my dragon downward again.
"I'll tell you when," I said.
We waited a few seconds.
Herobrine glared at us, and tried to slash my dragon.
"Finish him!" I shouted.
Ashton jumped off of my dragon, sword held high, fell onto Herobrine and stabbed him in the heart.
Herobrine screamed, took his final breath and rolled his eyes in the back of his head. Then his body disappeared, forever gone from the Earth and Minecraft.
"We did it..." Ashton said, disbelief showing on his face.
We both hugged each other.
My dragon landed next to me. I patted it. "Good work... Ender."
Ender nuzzled me and I patted it again.
"Steve!"
I whipped around and Paige threw her arms around me.
"You did it! You defeated Herobrine!" she exclaimed.
"No, we did it." I said.
"So, now what?" Hayden asked.
"We need to decide where to go now." Paige said. "None of us can stay in between worlds. It's too dangerous."
We all agreed.
"I guess I kinda have to go to live in Minecraft," I said. "Because I am Steve, after all. But, living there won't be that bad. Not that bad at all."
"I'll go with Steve," Paige said. "I belong there."
"I'll go too," Ashton said. "There's nothing really left here for me anymore."
"What about you Hayden?" Paige asked.
"I want to stay in the human world," Hayden said. "I mean, I have a whole family there for me and a life too. I hope you guys can understand."
"It's okay, Hayden," I said. "We understand. Besides, you can visit us once in a while if you want. We'll be there on your laptop."
"Okay," Hayden said.
"Let's head over to Hayden's house now," Paige said.
••••••••••••••••
"See you in there!" Ashton said. He plunged his body into the laptop.
"Ready?" I asked Paige.
"You know it," she said.
We looked back at Hayden. He smiled and waved. And then I took Paige's hand, and we stepped in the laptop to live a life forever in Minecraft.
