CHAPTER 68

"I DON'T have that amount of money and you know that!" Beatrice spat angrily at Mr. Go but he seemed to be unconvinced.

"Don't fool me, Beatrice. You've always been bragging about your status as the wife of the owner and CEO of Larsen Corp. Everyone knows how powerful and wealthy your husband is. 50 million is nothing to him so just give me what I want before I lose my patience with you.

"But if you really don't want to, then I don't have a choice but to directly talk to your husband. I mean, he's literally just a couple of meters away, right? I'm sure that the moment he hears about everything that you've done, you're done for good. He will strip you off of everything that he's given you." He then laughed.

"I didn't do anything and I'm sure, Mikael will not believe a word from you after what you did in the company. In his eyes, I can never do that." Beatrice scoffed, still sounded confident. "Your reputation has already been tarnished. Nobody will believe you."

"You didn't do anything? Still confident, huh? Let me refresh your memory then. Remember that time more than a decade ago when Mikael brought his son, Miguel, to Norway? I was nothing but a lowly employee back then who worked my a*s off at Larsen Corp., Norway branch.

"You and your son, Vito, weren't happy that Mikael brought Miguel there to study and train under him at the same time. I could still remember how Vito's face contorted in anger and jealousy when he came to his father's office and saw the bonding Mikael and Miguel.

"He saw how proud Mikael was to Miguel because he was so brilliant and already closed a big business deal even though he was still a student back then. You and Vito knew that Miguel was a big torn in your throat because you son's achievements were nothing compared to Miguel's achievements.

"To be honest, I thought, you were a decent person back then because you were silent while watching everything unfold before you but when your son did something unforgivable, imagine my surprise when you finished it instead of correcting his mistake. Because of envy, jealousy and insecurity, Vito tried to kill Miguel by kidnapping him, his own brother. Vito was young back then but he already has a criminal mind." Mikael felt like someone suddenly punched him in the gut upon hearing that.

"Vito is not a criminal!"

"Really? What do you call what he did then? Incidentally, I was on my way home when I witnessed how he forcefully took Miguel into his car and drove off. The next day, Mikael was looking for Miguel everywhere but no one seemed to know his whereabouts.

"Of course, since I saw what I saw, I went to the CEO's office just to find you there. He wasn't around. And because I thought you were a good person, I told you what I saw and guess what, you offered to pay me just to keep my mouth shut. I agreed because I badly needed the money.

"From then on, you've been relying on me whenever you needed my assistance because my brother in law was the chief of police. I did everything you asked me including when you asked me to kidnap Miguel's mother, Claudia, when she came to Norway to find her son. Do you remember now? Still need me to go on?"

"Stop!" Beatrice snapped as she covered her ears but Mr. Go continued.

"Tsk. Tsk. Poor woman. She went to Norway, hoping to see her son, alive and well, but she met her tragic end in the hands of an evil person like you. You disposed her off, together with her son without a second thought. When you found out where Vito was hiding Miguel, you finished the job for him by hitting two birds with one stone.

"You succeeded on killing Claudia and Miguel and yet, your stupid husband believed your lie when you told him that the two got kidnapped by unknown men. Of course, I ironed out that lie by telling my brother in law to make it appear like that was what happened even though in reality, you killed them." Mikael felt like his breathing stopped as his chest felt so heavy and painful.

He clutched his chest as the intense pain attacked his senses while trying his best to stay conscious, trying to process everything that he had heard. At first, he wanted to question if everything that was happening was just a nightmare but feeling the gnawing pain in his chest right now told him the evident answer.

"Damn you! You're nothing but money-hungry b*stard!" Beatrice was so furious but evidently trapped and couldn't do anything to fight him.

"We're just the same, Beatrice, and you know that. I mean, I'm sure that if you would be in my situation, you would do the same. I'm just using my head here. Just like I've said just now: I don't have anything to lose so I'm going all out this time. Give in to my demand or lose everything. Choose!"

"Fine! I'll give what you want but this is the last time!" Mikael used his last ounce of strength to walk away from there without them noticing his presence but after walking a few meters, his body finally gave in and collapsed.

When he woke up, he was already in the hospital. Of course, he was surprised when they told him that he just woke up from coma. Because of what he heard from Beatrice and Mr. Go; he suffered a major heart attack which led to an emergency surgery.

He was disappointed and deeply hurt but his rage was the most prominent. He couldn't believe that Beatrice and Vito could betray him like this and it was the most painful betrayal he had ever experienced.

Realizing that his son and Claudia were already gone brought tears to his eyes. He couldn't accept it but he had to get up and fight for them; make sure to get the justice they deserved.

He could still remember when Miguel was nowhere to be found back then, he looked everywhere for him especially when Claudia was reportedly missing too after coming to Norway. He didn't stop even though he found no clue at all. But bizarrely, he found him a couple of months later back in the U.S. together with Claudia. Unharmed.

Now that he realized that he didn't even have any suspicion that the Claudia and Miguel that came back back then weren't the original ones was killing him. He couldn't do anything to help his son when he needed him the most. Even Claudia.

"Oh, honey! I'm glad that you finally woke up!" Beatrice cried while hugging him but he wanted nothing but to push her away from him. After everything that he heard from her and Mr. Go, Mikael was surprised that he's still alive; that they didn't do anything to him while he was in coma.

Beatrice kept on talking enthusiastically but he remained silent. Aside from the fact that he was still weak, he didn't want to make mistake this time. He should make sure to give everyone of them what they deserve when they least expect it.

"Where is Cross? I want to talk to him." He finally opened his mouth after a couple of minutes of just listening to her blabbering.

"Why are you asking me about your son? You know what? He's not here. If he really cares for you, he should be the one to be here. You know what? I've been wondering before why he never was close to you. I mean, he never comes when you don't call him to visit him. It was as if he wasn't interested at all. Now I know."

His forehead creased. "What...are you talking about?"

"Don't give me that, Mikael. I know that you had a heart attack because of him. You discovered that he's been playing all of us all along because he's not the real Cross Miguel." Hearing that Beatrice shocked him as he didn't expect her to know about it and voice it out but he acted normal without showing any emotion that could give him away.

"When you collapsed at the party, I kept on wondering what happened. I thought, you were just tired but I was wrong. When I checked what was inside the attaché case in the car that you brought that night, I saw the result of the investigation that your PI gave to you. I can't believe it! That guy got us all this time!" Yes, his PI gave that to him but he didn't open it because of the party.

He didn't know who it came from but it wasn't important anymore.

Instead of answering, he chose to remain silent. Letting his anger out when he's still weak wasn't the wisest idea.

"Mikael, are you listening to me? Did you hear what I've said? Don't tell me, you're going to ignore the fact that we've been deceived?" The urge to snap at Beatrice was almost impossible to stop but he managed to do so.

"I don't want to talk about it, Beatrice. For now, I want to rest so leave me alone." She looked at him in disbelief but he closed his eyes, shutting her out.

"Fine. I'll let you rest for now but we're not done yet. I will never forgive that guy for deceiving us like this and I'm telling you now that I will do anything in my power to make him pay for what he's done." She then marched her way out of the room.

Later that day, Chloe and Cross came to visit him and Beatrice was furious as he didn't behave as she was expecting him to towards Cross. Until that moment, he was still in disbelief of everything that he heard about his wife and son.

He could still remember when Claudia broke up with him many years ago, Beatrice was the one who served as his crying shoulder. He couldn't accept that Claudia just discarded him without even an explanation.

He thought, he wouldn't have the heart to look at other women again but Beatrice made him change his mind. He thought, theirs' was special but he was wrong...
