Chapter 94

Jenna was having a peaceful and dreamless sleep; something that she hadn't been able to have for weeks. Although she was shot awake in the middle of the night when she starting hearing weird noises.

Hoisting her head up from the pillow and forcing her eyes open, she tried to listen carefully for the source of the sound, and that was when she saw it; there was a brown owl flying behind the bedroom's window with a letter tied to his leg as he knocked at the window with his beak.

Jenna tried getting up sleepily, but she found herself unable to do so. Looking down, she found Sirius's arm wrapped around her tightly from behind.

"Sirius," Jenna whispered, trying to get him to wake up and to let go of her. "Sirius, there's an owl at the window."

"Five more minutes," Sirius mumbled in his sleep, not even bothering to open his eyes as he tightened his grip around Jenna, pulling her back and closer against his bare chest.

"Oh, for Godric's sake!" Jenna huffed to herself quietly before holding onto his hand, trying to remove his arm from around her.

Once she finally managed to break free from his clasp, Jenna got off the bed and picked up the first piece of clothing that she found on the floor, which turned out to be Sirius's button-up shirt.

Wearing it as quickly as possible, Jenna went over and opened the window, letting the owl inside. The brown owl landed on Sirius's desk and Jenna loosened the letter from around his talon and started opening up the envelope.

While Jenna was taking out the letter from inside it, the owl rested his wings after a long fly. Sirius was still sound asleep, not even stirring at the noises around him.

With a light breath, Jenna sat at the edge of the bed and started to read the letter. She was surprised to see that it was from Hermione.

Dear Jenna,

It's been a while since I've heard of you. What's been going on? I've subscribed to the Daily Prophet to get a copy every day, but there's no mention of You-Know-Who in there, nor any news about the recent events.

I wrote to you mainly because I'm heading for the Burrow in two days, and I was wondering if you were going to come with me. If not, let me know so I can come up with an excuse as to why Crookshanks would not be with be.

Looking forward to your response,
Hermione

Jenna already knew that she had to go back to Hogwarts in the upcoming year, specially with everything that's been going on, so she could keep an eye on Harry. Therefore, it was best to accompany Hermione to the Burrow. The Weasleys were supposed to move to Grimmauld Place shortly for the summer, so she wasn't going to be gone for too long.

So Jenna picked up her bag from the nightstand and took out a parchment and a quill from inside it, writing a letter back to her.

Dear Hermione,

I guess I'll come to your place tomorrow, so we can go to the Weasleys' together. But until then, please don't send any more letters by owl. I'll explain everything later.

Jenna

Without rereading the letter, Jenna went over by the owl and handed it to him, and so he took the letter by his beak and flew out of the window abruptly.

Running a hand through her blue hair with yet another sigh, Jenna walked back toward the bed and got under the covers, snuggling up next to Sirius as she soon drifted to sleep.

Jenna was as always the first to wake up, and so she took a long and relaxing bath before going downstairs to the kitchen to set the breakfast table. Molly was kind enough to bring many food ingredients last night with herself, seeing as no human had lived at Grimmauld Place for around a decade.

By the time Jenna had set down the toasts and eggs, Sirius walked into the kitchen with sleepy eyes. He was wearing his old clothes which Jenna had brought from their flat, and they still fitted him perfectly.

"Morning," Jenna said with a smile, placing two full glasses of fresh orange juice down on the table.

"H-hey," Sirius was saying, but his words were interrupted with a long yawn.

"Did you sleep well last night?" Jenna asked gleefully as the two of them sat behind the large kitchen table, taking the two seats across from each other.

"Oh, yes. For obvious reasons," Sirius said with a mischievous grin, and Jenna shook her head at him.

"Where's Kreacher, anyway?" she mused. "I haven't seen him all day."

"Ugh, who cares," Sirius grumbled moodily with an eye-roll. "He's probably up in my mother's wardrobe, kissing her dresses." Jenna laughed at the thought.

"Listen," she started after taking a bite of her toast and setting it back down on her plate, "I'm leaving after breakfast to go to Hermione's house."

"What? Why?" Sirius questioned, a light frown forming upon his forehead.

"Well, Hermione's going to the Burrow tomorrow, I think. She'll then come back here with the Weasleys, and they'll all probably stay here for the rest of the summer. So I won't be gone for too long," she explained. "Besides, I have to go back to Hogwarts again this year."

Sirius's face fell at those words. "Right... I forgot."

"Hey," Jenna said softly, reaching out to hold his hand, "it'll be all right. We both know someone has to keep an eye on Harry."

"Yeah... I know," Sirius muttered, nodding bitterly. "I just wish you could stay with me longer."

"I wish I could stay, too." Jenna gave him a warn smile, gently withdrawing her hand. "But you know how I feel about Harry's safety. I feel like if I'm not the one looking out for him, then nobody else can. It's like... if you want something to be done right, you have to do it yourself."

"Actually I've been having my own doubts about this, too," Sirius confessed. "I know Harry has to return to Petunia's house every year because of the magic Lily created fourteen years ago. But I feel like Harry needs us the most. We're supposed to be his guardians. It was Lily and James's choice from the start. They appointed us as his Godparents."

"Yeah..." Jenna whispered under her breath, pursing her lips together. "I wish I could talk to him myself, you know. To tell him that he's not alone in any of this. But Dumbledore supposes that Harry's mind is too fragile at the moment and so it's not sensible for him to know about me yet. He reckons Voldemort might have gained some sort of connection to Harry's thoughts. Everybody already thinks that I'm dead, and Dumbledore wants to keep it that way for as long as possible."

"But then why has Dumbledore forbidden everyone from telling Harry about the Order?" Sirius said furiously. "Harry takes after James. I know he would want to be a part of this. And he has every right to know what's going on, more than anybody else."

"I guess Dumbledore just doesn't want anything else on Harry's mind at the moment," Jenna tried to reason. "The boy has been through enough."

But before Sirius could open his mouth to argue, Jenna got up from her seat.

"I better get going," she said with a sad smile. "I guess I will be seeing you again in a few days."

"Yeah," Sirius mumbled as he got to his feet, bringing Jenna into a hug.

Deep down, neither of them wanted to let go. But Jenna pulled away at last, leaving Grimmauld Place after bidding Sirius goodbye. It was time to bring Crookshanks back again.
